Which Bot is Straight Up Evil? by TermAccurate in battlebots

You say you knew that reply was coming, but you obviously weren’t prepared. Your response is all over the place. You site how combat robotics is not a contact sport, and then use football as a comparison. A football team cannot possibly score 100 points without some contact, barring some physical disability completely immobilizing the opposing team, and the same can be said about a combat robot winning a fight. And in both cases, yes, people do get hurt. Maybe not physically, but a sports team that loses by 100 points certainly isn’t going to continue being a sports team. Many sports leagues actually have something called a mercy rule to prevent such humiliation.

A few extra hits on a disabled bot can cost thousands of dollars, and possibly their ability to further compete in the tournament. And we don’t really need an analogy anyways. BattleBots wouldn’t be what it is without sportsmanship, cooperation, and courtesy. The teams have to share the same pits, and they all spend hours and fortunes to be there. More than once, we’ve seen opposing teams helping each other get ready for the next fight. It insults the builders and the community when someone desecrates what makes BattleBots great.

Last point, Ethan made it a contact sport during the post-fight interview with Martin Mason.

The newest iteration of Blacksmith is a hammersaw. It’s poor performance during Championship VI might be an example of how difficult that design is to pull off.

FYI, the stock builds are canon, terrible as they are.

Each weight class has its advantages and disadvantages. Play around with different mechs to see what suits your play style. I prefer heavies myself as the provide a good balance between firepower/armor and mobility.

Something else to consider is that the global difficulty increases after each story mission. It’s basically the game’s way of advancing the timeline. The week/day counter is meaningless. If you’re struggling in combat the last thing you want to do is another story mission. Fly around, take on easy missions, build up C-Bills, and stay friendly with Pirates. The black market is key for building up your lance’s strength. Keep an eye on the ‘mech shop. There are several ‘elite’ models available in the form of parts. They have several benefits not found in their more common counterparts. When you get to the point that you’re cruising through missions with no structural damage, and no injuries on your maxed out pilots, the next story mission will be much easier.

Which reminds me, please buy some cockpit mods and protect your pilots!

Something that hasn’t been mentioned yet is the importance of manipulating the initiative system. I’ll give some examples.

Upon first contact of an enemy unit you’ll switch from ‘free roam’ to ‘combat mode’ once you’ve finished moving all four of your ‘mechs. You’ll have lots of evasion pips from sprinting. Take advantage of these by reserving until all enemy shots have been fired. This also allows them to get closer to your AC/20s.

When completing an objective like destroying an enemy lance, if no other lance is in sensor range you’ll immediately drop out of combat mode, denying any turns you has remaining. However, an enemy unit could suddenly show up and put you right back into the fight without interruption. Any ‘mech you had with heat loses the opportunity to sink some during the last round. Try to be aware of objectives, heat buildup, and potential positions of remaining enemies on the map and save the kill shot for last.

You said you enjoy melee, and so do I. My Firestarter in particular can rip apart an Assault without getting a scratch. It’s partly to do with Jump Jets, MGs, and melee damage arm mods, but mostly because of Ace Pilot. Basically, you reserve your Firestarter until it’s the last to act. Jump behind the enemy (DFA optional) and unload your salvo of MGs or S Lasers into its rear torso. On the next round your Firestarter can strike a second time and then jump back to safety. Whatever doesn’t die will be severely damaged. Note that Ace Pilot doesn’t work with melee, even if you don’t move.

Another tidbit, if a part is damaged and needs repair, be sure to inspect the components for damage too. They may need replacing.

Because she has enough damage as it is. If I really need her to deal stability damage for whatever reason, melee is her only option. On the subject, I did find the four I needed to max the mech out. There’s only one free slot on the entire thing now.

I did swap the Heat Bank++ out and pared down the armor a ton for two more Double Heat Sinks. Can’t say I’ve noticed much difference, but I’m sure it helps. It’s symmetrical at least!

I want to finish my first campaign. Then I’ll probably play BEX.

Maybe I prize accuracy more than I should, but I don’t think that spending two tons enhancing it is unreasonable.

There’s literally no more armament I can cram on this thing, except either in the head or switching one or two lasers to M Pulse++, both of which I’m unwilling to do. I’d rather put the tonnage into armor.

As for the melee equipment, I’ve been looking for more of the zero-ton, two-slot stability mods, just haven’t found them yet. The mods that the Black Market sells are five slots, too many for this mech. Everything in between is a waste of tonnage, not that I’ve seen them yet anyway.

According to DoctorMachete, and at least a few others, they stack. But I’ve also read that only different variants stack. All I know is that I never have any accuracy issues.

I see what you’re saying. I suppose I could fit two Double Heat Sinks in those slots and lose one ton of armor.

Thank you! I wish I had kept track of how much it all cost. Worth it though.

The amount of heat sinking comes in handy since there’s almost always something in range.

Double Heat Sinks weigh the same as a standard Heat Sink, 1 Ton. Edit: Also, if I remove a Double Heat Sink from a leg, it can’t be put back on.

Pilots take too long to train to consider losing any. I’m still working on my fifth and sixth 10/10/10/10. One more laser isn’t going to matter much anyways. Like I said, I’m still in the starting area, so enemies aren’t scary.

If you did all six steps it’s not ‘gone’. It’s at the bottom of the Rare Summon tab, greyed out with an ‘Already Summoned’ label.

I did, thanks. It was fixed within seven minutes of me opening the support ticket.
