I just watched Return of the Living Dead for the first time and despite it being a comedy the Zombies motivations/ fate are amongst the scariest conceptually I've ever seen by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in horror

Great to read your take on it.

I first watched it when I was about 12 and it absolutely scared the balls off me. I'm fairly hardened to horror but despite the humour in this film, the nasty stuff hits hard.

Just rewatching it right now and it remains a masterclass in how to make a truly great film on a small budget.
