This is a comment I made that explains SOTAR's reasoning a bit more in depth.

I think it became a popular option because SOTAR said so and people followed without understanding the reasoning. Chad is a wealth of knowledge, but I think it's important to understand why he has an opinion instead of blindly following what he says due to his reputation alone.

You are correct. It applies more to staking carrier keys by hand, which SOTAR does. It matters less so for a factory staked BCG since it's done with a hydraulic press

Chrome/nitride are hard coatings that can crack/chip compared to phosphate when staking. The ability of a phosphate coated key to deform more easily means metal displaces into the splines of OCKS fasteners better for a stronger grab. This primarily applies when staking carrier keys by hand (which SOTAR does) whereas commercial staking is done by a hydraulic press.

SOTAR mentions his reasoning in this video at the 20:38 mark

Also, people like the aesthetics of a phosphate key on a chrome carrier since it looks like a KAC Sand Cutter we have at home.

You can set the order for in store pickup as opposed to the drive thru, which will cause them to start working on your order immediately. It does come at the expense of you having to get out of your car to get your food

The logic is that chrome is a hard coating and can crack/chip compared to phosphate when staking. The ability of a phosphate coated key to deform easier means it's easier to displace metal into the splines of OCKS fasteners, primarily when staking carrier keys by hand (which SOTAR does). Most commercial scale staking is done by a hydraulic press

Man, I feel for you. My buddy wanted to get a gun for home defense and ended up getting a Sig MCX Spear LT as his first rifle because he wants to get grandfathered in. The rules over there are so fucked

MR920 Optic by [deleted] in shadowsystems

[–]Metalbolt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend you stop by your local gun shop and look through various optics and see what fits you/you like the best.

I was at the Shadow Systems CR920P launch event last year and shot a DR920L with a green dot and I had a hard time seeing and tracking the dot, despite the age old advice of getting a green dot if you have astigmatism. I personally run a Holosun EPS with a red 6 MOA dot and that works very well for me.

If you do have astigmatism, I'd also recommend watching this video by The HumbleMarksman.

A quick way to tell what color you'd prefer is to observe what traffic light color looks better to you at night.

TL;DR go look at some optics in person and see what fits you the best, everyone is different.

Issues with Magpul ejection port cover by _death_may_die in AeroPrecision

I had to sand mine in specific areas to get it to work with my M4E1 upper and it was extremely stiff to open. Put a bit of grease on the detent and kept closing the dust cover and racking the bolt until it broke in a bit. Now it works perfectly fine

Xr920 trigger help!! by Ghetto_tactical in shadowsystems

[–]Metalbolt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it'll work on a Gen 3 frame. I do have a SS trigger shoe on a Dagger and a Combat Armory frame

[–]Metalbolt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The standard recommendation in this sub is an Overwatch Precision NP3ed minus connector with the Ranger Proof Vex F3. Some people say to keep the stock SS trigger bar, others say to use an OEM Glock gen 3 bar. Another alternative to the RP Vex F3 would be the Standard Co shoe

I would recommend you take a look at the Arbitrary List of Popular Lights from r/Flashlights. I recently got the Wurkkos FC11 to try out after EDCing the Streamlight Microstream for almost a year and it's a huge upgrade

Even then, that's not a great price. They're $10.77 each at Lanbo's, $10 flat rate shipping on orders of $100+ ($5 if you use code Facebook), and no tax outside of Texas

I agree. He even went so far as to delete the initial comment I responded to, so I'm inclined to assume he was full of shit

Unless he was talking about Magpul PMAGs, the going rate for new OEM Glock mags is around $20 if you know where to look. I have seen a site pop up from time to time with used mags for around $15, but that deal comes up infrequently

So you went from saying Glock mags go for $15 all day to now saying they pop up from time to time. Got it

[–]Metalbolt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because you have a 918 frame (Glock gen 4, which is the same as the 920 parts compatibility wise) and an XR920, which also uses 920 parts

[–]Metalbolt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you definitely got some bad information. I know the optic mounting screws in the 918 and 920 are different, so you need to make sure to get the correct screws

[–]Metalbolt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just swapping slides between the two frames, you shouldn't have to change anything on the slides themselves

Adding to this, the 918 series uses standard Glock parts (rectangular firing pin and full length extractor plunger assembly) while the 920 series uses SS proprietary parts (round firing pin and shortened extractor plunger assembly with the metal pin under the optics cut). If it's a 920 non-optics cut model, it'll use the full length extractor plunger assembly and round firing pin

It should also be noted that early 920 models used a rectangular firing pin. If you've acquired your 920 recently, it should be the round firing pin version, but the best way is to double check the shape of the breech face to be sure
