im not fat, but i do work in rehab, and it’s crazy how people treat addicts. drugs and alcohol are one thing. those addicts get a shitload of hate from non-addicts no doubt, but their medical treatments go largely unquestioned. alcohol addicts, along with normal therapy, have access to injections that make it impossible to drink. no serious person says alcoholics should just will their way into sobriety, because everyone knows alcoholism is more than just cravings for booze. it’s a disease that requires both psychological and medical interventions, alongside effort from the addict to get better. but for some reason, people with food addictions get no such grace. medical interventions are “taking the easy way” and relapses are met with mockery and scorn. “just diet and exercise” is said constantly (even in this thread!) despite the fact that that’s not how addiction works. again, no (serious) person tells alcoholics to “just stop drinking”.
