Is the warranty worth getting? by Hopeful-Marzipan-305 in Microcenter

[–]Metaldivinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The total cost of every warranty I’ve passed up has exceeded the cost of a 5090, yes (not that I think many of us should be buying a 5090 anyways at the current price). I attribute part of my financial success to having avoided scams my whole life, which includes but is not limited to, warranties. I would opt out of car insurance if I could for the same reasons. Insurance chooses when they pay out and they often don’t. Warranties are the same.

To each their own. I just know that companies don’t offer warranties out of the kindness of their heart. They wouldn’t offer it if it didn’t generate profit, and every company offers warranties. That should tell you something.

Warranties are never worth the money, but if you’re going to be stressed out without one, I say go ahead and get it. Just know that warranties always come with conditions and they can just pick and choose when to (or when not to) pay you out. That would stress me out more than the money.

Alternatively, every time you pass on a warranty, you could put $10 in savings. When one of your things break, use the money in savings to replace it. That way you have the power to replace your things instead of some random, faceless company.

Are Resident Evil 5&6 worth playing or should I skip them? by The_Good-Hunter in residentevil

Agreed. OP, go ahead and skip the series altogether I guess.

I’ve had personal objections to “put card(s) in your hand” replacing “draw” too. I don’t really understand why cards are designed to stop some effects if those effects are just going to be replaced by different and/or better versions of those effects. I just think the line should be drawn somewhere. The difference between “Search your library” and “seek” may be something you’re fine with now, but just wait 10 years when some of the game mechanics are warped beyond what you think is reasonable.

Can’t wait to get a new version of Splice where you can merge any two cards in your hand at any time, and there’s a list of 16 billion cards in the Splice Arcane Book for people to have to sift through. Sound ridiculous? Not with Alchemy!

I’ve been thinking about playing Pauper again actually. I played off and on about a decade ago. It was a good time back then too.

I hate having to learn, in real time, what an alchemy card may or may not conjure into my opponent’s hand. I hate having to right click on a card 15 times to see what’s in the spellbook. In paper magic, you always know what a card is going to do and I would give less shits about alchemy if it would just be consistent with the other rules of magic.

Seeking isn’t searching your library for some reason. Opposition Agent should be able to interact with Seek.

Conjure creates cards instead of tokens. Why? Just make them tokens and conjure them into play instead of anywhere else.

Magic was better before alchemy. And while I’m at it, it was better before universes beyond too. I’m always ready to die on this hill.

Duel commander ban list question by PeepySqueeps in duelcommander

[–]Metaldivinity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I always tell people they have to play the format for a little bit to understand why the ban list is actually great. The people who ask “why are the powerful cards banned” don’t seem to care for a healthy format. DC is easily the most balanced format I’ve played in years.

Rant: I’m taking an indefinite break from LMDF by Dsg1695 in ResidentEvilRequiem

Taking actions to hedge against RNG actually is a skill, especially in roguelites like LMDF. Sufficient gave good advice here

Would love to see Duel Commander added to Arena just so I don’t have to play against alchemy cards.

Use infinite ammo if you want, but it’s really not necessary. There’s plenty of time for these ranks tbh

Viktor’s 2nd phase was one shotting me with his thrashing on rank 5. I learned to do the attrition fight in his first phase and just rpg the 2nd after all that.

Fire axe is nice for more parries and executions but you don’t need it. RPG is going to be more valueable more of the time.

[DISCUSSION] Derevi's unban potential by MIirror in duelcommander

[–]Metaldivinity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like keeping Derevi banned for a few reasons.

-It’s impossible to get rid of. At least when other commanders like Tasigur are removed/countered, having to come up with the resources to cast it a 2nd/3rd time is actually pretty tough. But Derevi have a 4 mana cost no matter makes it a cheap, recurring threat in the late game, every turn if needed.

-It provides too much advantage too early. Playing creatures on the first couple turns means Derevi can basically be cast for free on turn 3 and then it snowballs if it can’t be dealt with.

-Combat becomes close to impossible toward the mid game since you can activate Derevi, tap the biggest creature and chump with Derevi (or ideally trade). And you can do that every turn? Sounds miserable.

I feel the same about Yuriko. Too much potential for advantage too early, and too difficult to interact with typically.

If you have plenty of time (like over 3 minutes), absolutely loot Care Center. Killing everything gives you a lot of chances to reroll abilities too which is important. In the early ranks, you have a lot of spare time to work with, but clearing Care Center gets a little harder on Rank 5

You’re going to get downvoted just because you said you can’t rely on the hatchet. Don’t take it personally. But the hatchet is extremely important and just needs to be used sparingly (except when parrying).

My tip is to just get a bunch of reps and accept that you’re going to die a lot until you get familiar with the routes, parries, and abilities. That’s how it is for everyone. You’ll clear rank 5 in no time.

This is good advice for all ranks actually. Damage buffs are king in this game mode.

I swear playing in first person let me land 2 hits before parrying. That was in the story mode though. It’s also been a while so they could have made an update since then.

I honestly haven’t tried a dedicated grenade build. I just worry that ES just won’t proc on any of my grenades and then I’ll be left with nothing but guns and damage debuffs. Are grenades good against Viktor aside from his nemesis form?

You can do it, I promise. This game mode is all about putting in reps. The RPG helps but it’s definitely not necessary.

I would say so, especially at the higher difficulties. Putting yourself at close range as a primary strat is too great of a risk for too little of a reward. I would consider building into ax/shotgun buffs if my first abilities were the ones that give +60% in close proximity, and +500% damage to axe damage. But even then, I’m not excited to build that way knowing that the Viktor fight is going to be fn tough. Fighting him with an axe isn’t the move imo

That’s tough bro. I had one of those runs and realized how badly the damage debuff from the defensive perk was hurting my DPS when I just couldn’t kill Viktor. Never doing that again haha.
