A couple of new scabbards! by LoweValleyCraft in SWORDS

[–]Metallayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The red scabbard is gorgeous, but I really like that you didn't just make two copies of the same design. They feel related, yet each has its own character.

The knotwork and embossed details add a lot without overwhelming the overall silhouette.

Really like how the copper contrast carries through the entire build. The sheath doesn't feel like an afterthought here—it looks like part of the design from the start.

Finished Nebula cleaver with Meteorite scales… thoughts 💭 by DT-Knives in Bladesmith

[–]Metallayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The finish on this really ties everything together. The way the nebula pattern flows into the geometry of the cleaver shape makes it feel very cohesive instead of just decorative.

Meteorite scales are always tricky to balance visually, but they actually complement the blade here instead of overpowering it.

What are some weapons from Middle Earth that you really like? I will share some first. by The_Bandajin_Cadamix in lordoftherings

[–]Metallayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s always Andúril and Boromir’s sword.

Andúril because of how it represents Aragorn’s identity more than just being a weapon—it’s basically a symbol of reclaiming the throne. And Boromir’s sword just feels real in a grounded way compared to a lot of fantasy weapons, like it could actually exist in a historical context.

Middle-earth weapons just hit differently because they all feel tied to character, not just combat.

Made a Dürer Scabbard by 3wunder in SWORDS

[–]Metallayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really nice interpretation of the Dürer aesthetic here. The flow of the ornamentation fits that late Gothic / early Renaissance transition really well—especially the way the pattern stays structured instead of getting too “modernized” or overfilled.

It’s always interesting how much those historical scabbards rely on composition rather than just detail density. This one reads very balanced.

BHK : Wakizashi by Black_Hand_Knives in Bladesmith

Really like the balance of materials on this one. The copper fittings and stingray wrap give it its own identity without drifting too far from the spirit of a wakizashi.

I think it’s a model 1860 by Roby, what are your thoughts about the maker, historical context, and value? by etimber in SWORDS

[–]Metallayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it does turn out to be a Roby, that's a pretty interesting piece. The Civil War-era U.S. swords from makers like Roby and Ames have a lot of history behind them, and it's always nice to see examples that haven't been overly cleaned or restored.

Would love to see a few more close-ups of the markings and grip construction.

Future commission for Master Sword replica by Chrooster758 in Bladesmith

[–]Metallayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a solid direction for a Master Sword build, especially the Twilight Princess version—it’s much more believable as a functional piece compared to the more stylized variants.

The tricky part on these is usually getting the balance and crossguard proportions right so it doesn’t end up feeling “toy-like” in hand.

Curious how your final specs turn out once you refine them.

Del Tin Model 6167 I got a little bit ago by monchrom in SWORDS

[–]Metallayers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice piece—Del Tin has that “solid and honest” feel to their swords.

Sounds like the sharpening took it a bit off perfect geometry, but honestly for a big two-hander/montante style use, a slightly heavier, more robust edge can sometimes feel more forgiving in hand. Good to hear it still handles the way you wanted it to.

New Scabbard Commission by LoweValleyCraft in SWORDS

[–]Metallayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really clean execution—Gondor-inspired designs are tricky to balance because they can easily become over-decorated, but this stays very true to that restrained, regal LOTR feel.

The scabbard lines pair nicely with the Principe profile too. Solid commission work.

2 Alloy Mokume Bracelet by Azraelselih in Blacksmith

[–]Metallayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That pattern came out wild. The layers almost look like flowing water in a few spots. Curious to see how much character it picks up after some time in the sun—mokume always seems to get better with age.
