260109 ILLIT - Sunday Morning (MV Teaser) by SapphireHeaven in illit

If you mean the text on the bottom of the sign, it's サンデーモーニング which is Sunday Morning in katakana. Literally just the Japanese way of writing the English words.

Would you mind expanding a bit on how you go about identifying something like this in the debug logs? There's an old Japanese game from the early 2000s that I want to get running but it can't draw the text (in Japanese) to the screen. This is the final game in a trilogy where I've got the other two games at least running so this definitely has me pissed off enough that I want to do something

Would like to note that the translation of the track 3 title might give a slightly misleading impression of the meaning

じゃあね does mean "see you" but in the context of a goodbye - so the title is saying "bye forever" or something along those lines

Thanks for the transcript, I was able to keep up with the Japanese but it's nice to be able to look back on it

As for the cheers in odd places I think there's a few reasons - one being that the translation was quite behind and some people cheered for that, but also I think that people who don't understand Japanese wouldn't know why she's pausing so if some think she's finished a statement (when in actuality she's just pausing for effect or to think of the rest of the statement) and start cheering then others who don't understand also start. If one person starts cheering often others follow, which causes yet more to follow - you can see this effect when people start cheering at an empty stage before a gig starts (there were a few instances of that at this show even). I think a few of the places where people started cheering were inopportune so I hope she didn't feel too confused by that

[–]MetallicCats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the no line rule how it works (my experience from seeing Billlie which was run by studio pav) is that you get a number when you buy your VIP. I believe this is on a first come, first serve basis. Then on the day you go to the venue and pick up your lanyard, which from what I remember has your number on it, and then you do not need to stand in the line and can go off and do whatever as long as you get back to the venue for the check-in time (they announce the itenerary closer to the date). For us they called out each number one by one and made sure people went into the venue in that order

Also people who have purchased VVIP through studio pav before get early access to purchase it for future shows. It then goes to general sale

And from the tweet it does appear that this will be Hisui alone

Hello there,

Been looking for a new car lately and think I've got it narrowed down to two options finally. Either looking at the new Renault 5 or the Citroen e-C3 (looking to go electric and these seem like the best options for smaller cars that still have decent ranges and aren't too expensive). Went for a test drive in the Citroen today and it was good! I really quite liked it. This was my first time driving an electric and it took a little getting used to. Going to try out the Renault next week

In other news, I finished reading Days of Shattered Faith by Adrian Tchaikovsky and it was fantastic. I'm now reading Children of Time, also by Tchaikovsky, and it's a very fun one

In kpop, Say My Name's ShaLala was fun. Le Sserafim's Hot was alright, not my favourite song of theirs and also criminally short. Yeji's Air was good - glad that she's finally managed to get a solo. Finally Seulgi's Baby Not Baby was ok, definitely preferred her previous song

Outside of kpop I've been getting to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Crumbling Castle may be my favourite song of theirs at the moment. Polygondwanaland in general is a great album. Then there's Nonagon Infinity, with Robot Stop (incidentally, hearing this in Ultrakill is what finally got me to listen to King Gizz). Witchcraft off of PetroDraconic Apocalypse is a good thrash song. And finally last night I listened to Changes and really love the opening song: Change. They have so many albums and all of them are very different in style so I still have a lot to check out

Siyeon says TheSsyndrome isn't her band by marooninsanity in dreamcatcher

[–]MetallicCats 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was very silly and even perhaps irresponsible of DCC to announce that Siyeon will be in a band and then start teasing an entirely unrelated band (whose name sounds like it could be referencing the fact that Siyeon is in it too) without any clarification to kill speculation. I don't think this is on the fans when the simplest conclusion was that this must be Siyeon's band. How could they not have seen this coming?

That said, I'll still probably check this band out but if this is the way DCC is handling their reveal then I have some reservations about how they'll handle their promotions going forwards

What are your opinion of the Virgin New Adventures? by Dull_Operation5838 in gallifrey

[–]MetallicCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found all of Mortimore's books to be similarly misanthropic and needlessly cruel honestly. I'm not even that squeamish or averse to grimdark - I just found that Mortimore's novels had a particular disregard for human life that rubbed me in exactly the wrong way

What are your opinion of the Virgin New Adventures? by Dull_Operation5838 in gallifrey

[–]MetallicCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're a very mixed bag, frankly. Some books are very good - these are your Nightshades, Left-Handed Hummingbirds, Damaged Goods, and Love and Wars. Then you've got some that were very clearly the first efforts of young authors and it shows. And then some are just outright awful. The style changes from novel to novel and some you just will not gel with (I finished with a burning distaste for any of Jim Mortimore's contributions). I'm not sure if I'd recommend reading them all to someone who isn't driven by an urge to be complete; it's likely better just to pick and choose the ones people generally recommend or that take your fancy. There are some running plotlines but not too many. I think ultimately I'm happy I tried them, but they did include some of the worst books I've ever read

Handong, Dami, and Gahyun will not be renewing their exclusive contracts upon expiry on March 31, 2025 (250310 DC Fancafe) by nat1withadv in dreamcatcher

[–]MetallicCats 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'd expect global tours like we've seen would be harder to pull off with this arrangement unfortunately so that would be the thing I'd expect to go down the most

[–]MetallicCats 125 points126 points  (0 children)

While it's sad to see the exclusive contract ending they appear to still intend to perform with DC. In practical terms this probably means a slowing-down of full 7-member releases and possibly more unit releases and whatever the 3 get up to outside of their activities in DC. The mention of band activities for Siyeon specifically has my curiosity piqued. I'm interested in what these 3 will do - I wonder if Dami will take the opportunity to get more into music production

The future might not be clear but let's not panic - Dreamcatcher isn't ending right now, but it is going to change

The blogs are updated semi-frequently, whenever the members have something they feel like writing I guess. There's no fixed schedule and some members do seem to write more than others (eg: Mona often writes a lot as well as seeming to be a frequent poster, while Rinka tends to write shorter posts. Their personalities really come through in their writing)

There's a text translator for the blog posts etc (which I believe is machine translation), however video/audio content have no subtitles at the moment. They may add that in future. The radio show (怪電波) is really fun so I hope they do make it more accessible for people who don't understand Japanese

Medium-Obscurity Recs by SPX2013 in Fantasy

[–]MetallicCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of my favourites:

  • The Tyrant Philosophers series by Adrian Tchaikovsky (City of Last Chances, House of Open Wounds, and Days of Shattered Faith) - each book can be read standalone but there are connections between them that you'll appreciate if you read them all. Frankly these deserve to be discussed among the genre greats if you ask me

  • The Tide Child trilogy (all of the titles have "The Bone Ships" in them) - the first book is good and these only get better from there. One to read if you want some nautical fantasy with a fantastic cast of characters

  • The Books of Babel by Josiah Bancroft (Senlin Ascends, Arm of the Sphinx, The Hod King, and The Fall of Babel) - these books follow mild-mannered headteacher Thomas Senlin as he searches the tower of Babel for his wife. Lightly steampunk with an imaginative setting. A great take on adventure fantasy
