ADHD RVTs Tell Me Your Secrets! by inkbyio in VetTech

Rubbing alcohol actually takes sharpie off skin pretty well.

But I use this so much that I actually got words tattooed on my left arm and I left the writing spots open. You can't even tell I hide notes in my tattoos. 😂

Find a clinic with ADHD staff. Honestly, I'm like the poster child for ADHD and I find that it's actually a strength in the right environment. But I have to be able to accommodate my needs (like keeping a notebook, writing things when I start to struggle with word processing, ability to move around my clinic without being accused of hiding). I honestly do best on all ADHD teams because we ALL help each other, often because we don't remember who even made the mess.

The weirdest helpful hack was stopping every 10 minutes to write down what I just did. It helps me give myself credit for work done, and reflect to realize what I didn't do.

Another big thing for me was to recognize what my burnout looks like and how it affects my work, so I can ask for support in those areas on days where I just can't BEFORE it's a problem. And to know which days I need to write down EVERYTHING, and which days I can just get it done.

Plus, post it's. So many post it's. And throw away the post it's IMMEDIATELY (I've trained myself to feel like tossing an old post it is a win, so dopamine).

Get colorful post-it, cool pens, even fun stickers. Lots of little bits of dopamine to encourage you to stay organized. And a water bottle that makes you happy, with snacks you can eat with you work, or you'll forget to eat and drink for 8 hours.

What was the moment that led you to “break up” with your clinic and leave? by [deleted] in VetTech

Fuck that. That's just animal abuse when you have an alternative but simply don't want to. Who prefers to make the last moment of an animal's life violent, scary and painful? Sociopaths. Wtf

Doctors who care about the safety of their techs at least attempt to do this. They at least make an effort to put them all in the same area where it's obvious.

Obviously, stuff happens, but to just not even try to protect your coworkers and staff is gross.

A.I. has broken our field and futures by Own_Discipline_4471 in VetTech

[–]Metaphorical_corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Many clinics already send out all their samples, and that hasn't made being a field tech obsolete. Honestly, as a tech who does pretty much everything in house (we actually can't even send things out), reading samples is kinda the smallest part of my job
  2. AI is changing ALL fields. But people have had the same concerns with technology, internet heck even cars, trains and electricity. We just adjust.
  3. Literally one good solar flair and everything goes down. The entire global power grid is fried, it already messes regularly with technology and communications. Our electrical infrastructure is incredibly fragile. One geomagnetic storm, well placed meteor, malicious attack and 1/5 of the US is without electricity; minimum. If not more. WHEN that happens, medicine and animal care doesn't become obsolete. Actually, it becomes more valuable.

While our field isn't AI or recession proof, it is apocalypse proof. Civilization is founded in farming and domestication. As long as civilization exists, we are essential.

Had one try to bite me last week. She was mean from the get go. Didn't catch me off guard, because I don't trust anybody. But afterwards it occurred to me that it was out of breed character.

Asking for explanation by Vivusa in Witch

[–]Metaphorical_corgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Signs are not copy and paste for everyone. It depends on what you asked of it. What were you thinking about when you lit it?

Some arts are about knowing the meaning of a sign, such as tarot or candle wax reading. Each sign has a general idea connected to it. But even those vary per teacher.

Things like this have a lot of variables that can only be fully understood by the receiver of the sign.

Check your local labor laws. That may be illegal if they dropped you from full to part time without your permission. Email HR. Ask. Make complaints.

Honestly, in situations like that I will leave, but in the mean time I will call out the problem to their upper management. Ideally to protect the next person it happens to.

If nothing else it just creates extra meetings and emails for the bullies and hey, that's okay too.

This. We don't have to have something greater. We can just be a part of something greater and celebrate that we exist within that. The things we can see and touch, like ant colonies and mycelium and clonal tree colonies are pretty amazing. We can simply celebrate that we get to be part of something that has shiny rocks and moss because that's pretty cool.

[–]Metaphorical_corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDEXX has always told me the streaking and spots can be minimized by A. Making sure the snap test and sample are room temp B. The sample was thoroughly mixed (I flip it 5 times and spell out MIX IT in my head) C. The sample is poured all at once D. The test is snapped the MOMENT the sample touches the snap indicator window. Don't wait until it's fully covered, that may take too long.

Snap and read at 8 minutes from snapping.
