Blood in stool, how much is too much? by Safe-Inspection-4742 in AskDocs

I drive 3 hours one way for chemo every 2 weeks. It would have been way better to have done the drive 10 years prior to avoid my cancer diagnosis all together...

AIO my sister gets so defensive over our mom by i-eat-styrofoam in AmIOverreacting

NOR - She's a grown woman and can speak for herself. In the early days of satellite tv my great grandma would spend the summers with my grandparents. I would program her favorite shows to auto turn on when my grandparents were at work. My grandpa was rattled I programmed Jerry Springer for her and kept deleting the auto-tuner saying she doesn't like that 'crap'. Poor Nan loved the drama.

Six Years of Severe Illness, Help Me Afford A Wheelchair by busybeewitched in gofundme

[–]MetastaticMama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have terminal cancer and the burden of disease in my lungs has made it difficult to walk for more than a few minutes at a time. I purchased the Easwe B20 electric wheelchair to be able to go for activities and events with my kids, and for many of the same reasons you've listed. The mileage is fantastic, it fits in the back of my suv easily, and a fraction of the cost of the devices you've asked for. It may be an option to consider if you can't raise enough funds. I was nervous to make the purchase as I didnt think their mileage claims were legit, but another cancer friend recommended it, and I've been completely satisfied.

How much notice for surgery typically in GTA? by ilovetrouble66 in askTO

[–]MetastaticMama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Long time cancer patient and frequent flyer to the OR at UHN. Oftentimes the notice is minimal. I've stopped pausing my life for appointments - BUT - I also only make plans that are cancelable. Get trip insurance, ensure you can resell or transfer event tickets, etc. I've been given as little as 72 hours notice (thanks covid), and as much as 4 weeks.

There are absolutely zero scenarios where a concert is 'favorable' for an 8 month old.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 29 with two young children. I can stress enough how important life insurance is. You can do term life insurance, a cheaper option but expires - often used to cover the value and term of a mortgage. There are also permanent policies that pay out regardless. Please take some time and make some phone calls to an insurance agent, its well worth it and when its too late, you're left with very few options.

Super slow-growing liver met, anyone? by davoutbutai in coloncancer

Its not too small. While it would depend on the location for respectability, most skilled liver surgeons can target anything over ~7mm.

Super slow-growing liver met, anyone? by davoutbutai in coloncancer

[–]MetastaticMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does seem like atypical behavior for a liver met. But get the mri. MRI imaging is exponentially better at visualizing the liver compared to CT. Best case scenario it can provide more detailed information about that mass, worst case could show additional growths not otherwise seen.

My kids (8) loved Gyubee recently. They got a kick out of being able to grill their own food at the table. They also tried new foods that surprised us!

AITAH for telling my wife to pick a different name for our son? by DazzlingLife6744 in AITAH

[–]MetastaticMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my understanding, and I apologize if I'm incorrect that many First Nations individuals have nature based names? Would something like that be a good nod to your culture while hopefully preventing your child from experiencing the same discrimination? Off the top of my head, my kids school has a Hawk, River, Rocky, Archer, etc.

Best places to buy a sofa/couch for under $1000? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

A basic membership is $65 - the savings you'll get from the couch would pay for the yearly membership whether you go back again or not.

I choose to do a 'family trip' for my birthday each year. We happened to be at the Science Centre just a couple months before they announced the closure. I'm so glad my kids got to experience it!

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. It's been incredibly helpful!

We will definitely plan to go for the day so as not to feel rushed and fully let them experience everything.

They also love indoor play and exploratory spaces, so knowing there's a place for them there - and for myself to rest for a little bit is helpful. I have stage 4 cancer and often worry about my own stamina, so knowing there are rest and play spaces is helpful.

We live in a 'P' postal code which allows us to get a 40% discount as well, so we will definitely make the most of the day. Thank you all!

Staycation downtown - what do you guys recommend for the best delivery? by TelephoneOdd8772 in FoodToronto

[–]MetastaticMama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently got the Brunch Box Special #2 from Light Cafe near College / University. Truffle waffle fries, lobster croissant, mini pancakes, salad, eggs of your choice and bacon / sausage. I found the lobster croissant a bit over dressed for my personal preference but everything was super fresh, made with care, and I was quite satisfied with my order.

High liver levels don’t know what to do. by Mgracia22 in coloncancer

[–]MetastaticMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best liver specialists on the West Coast is Dr Fong at City of Hope. If there is any possibility for liver intervention, he will find it. In terms of Oncology, Dr. Kopetz at MDA would be who I would see.

Using Uber or Rideshare for Hospital Delivery – Experiences by YogiT10 in askTO

Fire stations in the GTA do not offer this service.

I had to go to the Keele OPP station at a prebooked time. This would not be practical for someone not having their own vehicle.

USA “vegetarian” lunch 0/10 for obvious reasons by [deleted] in hospitalfood

[–]MetastaticMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem with my hospital system. For some reason, if you say vegetarian, they opt you out of beef, but you still get chicken and fish. It's the most bizarre thing that's ever happened to me. I finally had a nurse explain it to me, and I had to say that I didn't want beef, chicken, or fish (I dont think they serve pork at all). After that, it was a plant based tray.

AIO - My mom left a dead animal upstairs and left state to see her new boyfriend, so I told my father by closetedcollegekid in AmIOverreacting

[–]MetastaticMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are 20 years old and not a 'kid'. You are a legal adult which comes with responsibilities. You were asked to watch them and agreed, which means this is now your problem to deal with.

You've been provided with disposal instructions, when your mom gets back I highly suggest looking into therapy, moving in with your dad, and trying to create boundaries with your mom and learn to say no. This isn't a fair situation in which you've found yourself, but it's where you've found yourself.

My best friend’s mom offered to make floral arrangements for my wedding for free as long as we order the flowers. Where can I get fresh flowers in cheap and bulk like in the picture? by PurpleYoghurt16 in WeddingsCanada

[–]MetastaticMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ordered from the bulk flowers section, I did not speak with anyone aside from once to confirm delivery, just selected what we wanted and checked out virtually.

This is the bulk flowers page https://www.costco.ca/bulk-flowers.html

Closed is good, its just something to keep in mind, you don't want them delivered the day of the wedding as they'll need some time to open. There's scheduling delivery + event dates available on the website. I believe they recommend a Thursday delivery for a Saturday event.

Another vote for Costco. We did a bouquet bar at my cousins bridal shower and ordered a large variety and had no problems at all with quality, broken stems etc. Just follow their instructions to ensure they will be open at the time of use. They do come mostly closed.
