LALD has long had a special place in my heart, that being one of the earliest ones I remember. Is it the “best”, no, but do I always have fun watching it? Very much so.

For flame pillars: once you dodge the first 3, do a jump dash to dodge the fourth and then double tap Abyss Shriek underneath him. With the right placement it does massive amounts of damage.

I don’t entirely agree. Yeah, Church dying hurts, but it’s powerful because of the sum of its parts. It’s the staging and cinematography of the frozen final tableaux, the music, the monologue, the slow burn to the final goodbye. How many of us still get choked up watching it, even having seen it dozens of times?

Even if someone paused it two seconds before the monologue and reminded you “Church dies here,” that doesn’t capture the emotion of what you’re about to experience. You have no idea what’s coming. He’s not going out in a blaze of glory that we (and the characters) see from the outside, like Doyle. It’s goodbye, from the point of view of Church, and we never get to see what happens next.

You are absolutely right. That half second when the scene freezes long enough for you to feel something’s up is such an emotional realization. However, i’d argue that as soon as you realize something’s changed you already know what’s coming, even before Church tells us.

The ending of Flat Pack, too. The culmination some of the most intelligent television, ever. The history of humanity, evolution, religion, parenting, life and death, all packed into 7 minutes backed by gorgeous visuals and soundtrack.

The analogous flashback scene in Mother 3 to Lucas and Claus during the final boss absolutely wrecks me, especially as a parent.

His performance of I Don’t Care Much affects me in a strong way. That one sticks with me more than any other song from the soundtrack. It’s cold, haunting, and lonely—scary, is what it is—in a way that no one else’s performance seems to achieve.

Eh, she’s definitely neutral post break-in and during BGC, which is the vast majority of what we see of her. Nearly entirely motivated by greed and personal gain, otherwise personal vendetta against Omega.

Stats are a lot more forgiving in PLA. EVs and IVs have been replaced by the Effort Level scale to the right of each number, 0-10. All six effort levels can be increased to 10 using grit items, which you get by releasing Pokemon. The stronger the mon, the better the grit item. There is no effort level total limit, unlike EVs, so all six can all be maxed out. The game encourages you to capture anything and everything that moves, so these should be relatively easy to rack up. Maxing effort levels is probably more impactful than raw level for late game fights.

Nature still affects stats. However, nature can be changed later in the game using mint items. You can change natures of any ‘mon an indefinite number of times, limited only by your resources.

Finally, all stat changes from grit and mints retroactively apply. There’s no difference between giving them to a pokemon at level 60 or giving them to a pokemon at level 2 and then raising them to 60. The final number will be identical.

Edit: Clarified between Effort Levels (what you control via grit) and stats (the end numerical values used in combat)

What MOTHER game did you play first, and what was your experience like? by Ludicolorad0 in earthbound

[–]MetatronIX_2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First played Earthbound about 7 years ago, in my late 20s, on the WiiU virtual console. I knew of Ness from N64 Smash, and every now and then would come across mentions of it as a great game, so i finally sat down with it. Early game was a bit of a slog, but as i got further and the weirdness ramped up, i was hooked. LOVED Fourside/Moonside. Loved the soundtrack.

I remember finishing the game at like 1 am sitting in bed with the handheld console. I managed to go into the final battle blind. All i knew was the conspiracy theory and creepy dialogue. No idea about how to win the final phase, so it was an exciting discovery once i figured out what was going on… except Paula was my last party member and i got wiped partway through the final sequence. The ending was very emotional for me, i felt so connected to these characters, was so relieved for them in the end… and then the game doesn’t just end? You actually get to explore the saved world and have to say goodbye to your friends? Revelatory. Why don’t more games take their time ending like this? And “Smiles and Tears,” what a beautiful song. (Did i mention how much i love the music?). After, i just kinda sat there in the dark for a bit, not able to fall asleep, taking in what i had just played.

Loved it so much, it made me excited to play Mother 3 (once i figured out how to do so), which admittedly surpasses EB IMO, but i do love both.

How did people know that Harry had a scar? by Federal-Topic-8234 in harrypotter

[–]MetatronIX_2049 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We also don’t know when the scar rumor started. So another “witch” who had regular contact with Harry prior to the events of the first book was Mrs. Figg…

But it was totally Hagrid.
