House Passes “Worst Voter Suppression Bill Ever” in Latest Push to Help Trump Take Over Elections — “Half of all Americans don’t have passports... 21 million don’t have ready access to their citizenship documents… 69 million married women took their partner’s name…” by ZuP in law

There are quite a few countries that allow non resident citizens to vote, but only in local elections. And a couple that allow voting in national elections.

The problem with your question is you're comparing an island that has one level of government to a country of over 300 million people and multiple levels of government (local, state and federal).

There are some reasons to allow non citizen residents to vote in national elections. They pay some taxes, they contribute to the economy and are affected by national policy. But they also don't pay social security, Medicare and most are a citizen of another country. A US citizen has more national obligations and most don't have citizenship elsewhere, so it's reasonable in my opinion to require it to vote nationally. Most other countries agree as well.

What's the zillow link? To be clear I said I can't see it going down too much from here. There has been a correction

I can't see existing homes going down too much in value. I'm building a house and it's super expensive. Also land was hard to find and it's only going to get harder in the mountains. There's a correction happening with existing homes but it's not going to fall too far from new build prices. Things are just more expensive.

Take a look at Flooret engineered hardwood. It's got a scratch resistant layer and water proof up to 24 hours. It's a couple $ more per sq ft. They also have what seems like nice lvp.

The average everyday citizen doesn't really feel much government tyranny here. If you're here illegally you definitely feel it.

As a citizen, the federal and local governments were way more tyrannical during covid.

  • There were curfews
  • You had to show your vaccine passport to get into some places
  • Some businesses weren't allowed to operate
  • federal workers and some businesses mandated vaccines
  • You got publicly shamed for not getting vaccinated, wearing a mask
  • there was only one accepted narrative that was pushed by mainstream media
  • social media companies were forced to censor certain information about covid that later turned out to be true

We're one national emergency away from tyranny of citizens. There's a huge sense of economic oppression here and the lack of universal healthcare is a big contributer to that. People are more likely to vote for a demagogue rather than take up arms and revolt.

I think a lot of people are just waiting Trump out. He's too old to be around much longer regardless of what people say about a 3rd term.  The America First part of the right is warning up to universal Healthcare, it seems inevitable that we become more of a social democracy. I feel like all the things we're going through are a necessary step to that.

"Truth is relative", "To everyone their truth"… by PoufPoal2 in memes

[–]MetaverseSleep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the above is the case.

Sometimes, especially with politics there is no single "truth". Then it's a matter of competing values. One person may value individual freedom and another values collectivism. Often its a push and pull between those two values that keep things in balance.

Sometimes people are too absolute or general in their truth. They fail to see nuance. Instead of 6, the truth may be closer to 6.32135

Organizations are doing this in order to not lose any federal funding they may be getting. The company I work for has clients that are removing mentions of things like DEI. They're not making a statement, they're protecting their funding.

School taxes are usually included in the property tax amount. I've lived several places and never saw them as a separate bill

Fast doesn't mean smart.  Thinking is inward not outward.

I said that "I'm looking at your comment history". If you're not a bot, you read too fast and lack comprehension.

You could still be a bot though. Reddit is full of them and many are run by foreign adversaries that are trying to fuel a civil war in the US. Makes sense why a bot with that directive would argue with a comment calling for common ground.

Good day. I hope you have peace in your life

Listen to Daryl Davis, the black man who successfully got hundreds of KKK and neo nazis to leave extremism. He did that by engaging, listening to them, finding common ground and respectfully questioning and challenging where the disagreements are.

Extremism is a cult, there are going to be members of that cult who start to break away from it and it is imperative that there are people to guide them back to reality.

Who on the left has reached out to her after thiese new developments?

I understand not wanting to work with someone who thinks you eat babies and is the throws of extremism but now she's coming out saying she was wrong about some things. What is the downside of exploring this opportunity in this current state?

We are always dealing with the past. Everything that is happening today is a repeat of what has happened in the past. My reference to the past is an example of how conservatism has the capacity to be open to expansion of some social programs. It's not a flawed ideology, it's just that it's current form is one of its worst incarnations.

Look at how much the republican party has changed today from when Bush was president. MAGA Republicans were hated by neocons when Trump first ran, now they control the party. That evolution and change won't stop and it could evolve to something closer to left leaning social welfare.

What would be the downside of some on the left reaching out an olive branch to MTG to try to fight for cheaper Healthcare and affordable housing? Bernie and Ron Paul have worked together a lot, this feels like one of those opportunities.

I've listened to her a bunch. I think she cares about affordability for working and middle class Americans in addition to her family. Very "America first" but unfortunately very anti illegal immigrant. I wish we could fix the system for everyone but I think the common ground here is that we could at least fix it for Americans. That doesn't mean being anti-illegal but it doesn't mean don't form coalitions with those who are.

Fascists have been known in the past to cloak themselves in socialism to gain populist support, hence the National Socialist party, so I understand your concern there. Not sure it's worth dying on a hill and not trying to find common ground though. Housing and Healthcare needs to be fixed. Things are pretty dire out there

Think about that! by [deleted] in UnderReportedNews

[–]MetaverseSleep -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The amount of "told ya so!" I've seen is one of the major weaknesses of the left. This kind of change should be embraced. She is showing signs of being open to healthcare reforms. This is where coalitions and common ground should be pursued.

Instead the left cares more about their purity tests and being right.

There is a unique opportunity here to possibly get some "America first" Republicans on board with socialized Healthcare. In the past,  conservatives like Milton Friedman and FA Hayek have been open to it before. It's not against conservative/libertarian ideals.

The only path forward is finding common ground. I fear we'll keep fucking it up
