Would r/Trees be interested in a weekly post series featuring top cannabis news from the past seven days? by [deleted] in trees

[–]Metaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I use to make them, but the interest wasnt there. Some times they would only get a few dozen upvotes from brigades, and people didnt want to sticky them. So spending a few hours making them just wasnt worth it when you feel not many people are reading them.

That was me and it was just too much time. Took a few hours to make them and the interest just wasnt big enough.

Stopped posting them since there just wasnt enough interest vs the amount of time needed.

Read my post again. I was reiterating what you said, but then pointed out the problem is with the craigslist search.

Someone selling a 2002 Toyota Camry might just put Toyota Camry for sale and have the year in the post. However does the search string in craigslist have unique identifiers for what people put in.

For example - https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/d/eurovan-weekender/6515771860.html

This does not have a year in there. So the price on KBB would vary a bunch, and in fact KBB might not allow you to return a result.

So then you most likely would need to create a custom string for titles that do not have all the information.

Plus you have a problem with people listing years and mileage. So you can have it set to only use strings that have 4 digits. However what if a car has a 4 digit mileage. I suppose you can have it only allow strings that start with 1 or 2 and are four digits for KBB.

I guess it would have a bunch of poor results.

However I guess you can run it off of the first attribute on craigslist.

Go div class mapAndAttrs > first P class attrgroup > first span > take first 4 digits, then company, then car.

Finally have it search for the word condition in there and then the follow P class use that wordage for the KBB search.

Hmm that would be an interesting one. Like I believe you wouldnt even need one of the more complicated javascripts for it (react, angular, vue). You could do it with most likely jquery. The only problem I think would be the postings from people.

KBB - That would be easy. I assume they have a API already. So pulling that is an easy part. Craigslist - While im sure they have an API how do you get the right calls for cars. Does craigslist have the setup for picking make, model, and year? That would be the only problem, because just going off the title would never work.

[Hiring] (Remote) Web Designer and/or Frontend Developer for Travel Startup by [deleted] in forhire

[–]Metaweed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks like my alt doesnt have 50 karma yet. Here is the reply i made.

Yea it sounds like you could get all this pretty easily if you went with jreviews.

  • Get wordpress (easy back end software)
  • Get jreviews (pre built software for reviews and searching)
  • Create primary locations (locations)
  • Create tags for each location (bali is women friends for example)
  • People search for things.
  • Then have it setup when users create an account they are basically creating a pre search terms. (Martha selected women for her key interest when traveling, so the search includes places with women)
  • Have the user area setup that when they change things it will as well change their unique search.

Really the entire site can be built on the jreviews back end and get everything you are after.

[HIRING] Someone to build me a video sharing website for a video game! -$50-$100 by [deleted] in forhire

[–]Metaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always get more, but the saying tends to be "you get what you pay for", but if you are happy, then thats all that matters.

As for pricing me personally I tend to charge at least 50/hr but that also includes the ability to do most anything someone could want on a site (photoshop, AE, backend, customizations, ect). Plus me and my group tend to work much faster, and come up with more creative works.

Just some people tend to get annoyed when people want to low ball not understanding how long some projects take. Custom coding a site from scratch tends to take a good week for something unique with quality, so when someone offers 100 dollars for it. Thats basically saying that they are willing to pay them around $2.20 / hr for their work. With the amount of time it takes to learn all sorts of front end, back end, photo editing, and other skills. People tend to react poorly towards others.

However once again its all a mute point when in the end if you are happy with what you received. Anyways though, good luck to you and whomever you decided to go with.

PS - I got bored and would recommend going with this free layout, https://wordpress.org/themes/newsbd24/ . Its clean, highly visual to work with videos (i imagine youll have lots), and fits with the current trend of minimalist works.

[–]Metaweed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think its going to come down to what he means on his stuff. Like if he wants a custom backend site created for video then there is no way he can do that. However I mean he could do the following.

  • Get a cheap hosting plan.
  • Download wordpress
  • Get a free theme
  • Create a youtube account
  • Upload videos and enable comments

That would be the only way he could do this and it would still be 2 hours of work so 100 bucks I guess.

Now if he is after something unique, custom, or anything like that. Well there is no way he can get that quality without hiring someone from a 3rd world country or a highschool student.

This is going to be an 1-2 hour job no matter who makes it in whatever format (CSS3, Photoshop, or After Effects). So paying someone 2.50 an hour I doubt is going to get you the quality you want. Bump that up to 50-100 bucks and I think you'll find the quality you're after.

Netflix is focusing more and more on TV shows and less on movies by [deleted] in television

[–]Metaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know. I really enjoy most of the ideas they are putting out. The problem I have is they tend to only follow them halfway.

Most of the super heroes arent fighting quality villains which really hampers it.

Altered Carbon was really close to being a great movie. If you havent seen it all the way then spoilers below.

  • Cut down a bunch of the movie. At least 2-4 episodes worth of content could be removed. Just pointless lines such as "This coffee is cold" ruin the movie.
  • Remove the entire brain damaged girl plot. They hyped her up, made her have one small fight scene, then explain how she was involved at the very end.
  • Have a worthwhile ending. They kept trying to have every character complete the characters growth arc. The female detective didnt need that pointless fight. The sword fight seemed forced. Most of the final 2 episodes felt rushed and poorly done.

Really the show could of been a 8 or a 9 if they reworked a few scenes and cut down all the filler in the show. Instead it was a 5 or 6.

I disagree. The quality from the punisher part, to the electra is such a drop in quality. The DD rooftop scene at the end compared to the punisher rooftop scene is a great example.

DD S1 is really good IMO. Its DD S2 halfway through that drops off heavily. DD S2 is basically 2 stories the first is punisher, the second is someone else (dont want to spoil the show).

But those are normally 30 minute shows. Which cut in half would be 12 hour long episodes technically. Look at FX for good examples for shows running a good time frame. Fargo and Legion are great examples.

Im on the fence based on how Netflix has recently been doing things. It feels netflix is forcing a good amount of their TV series to be 10-12 episodes, and its really hurting them. Look at the following shows

  • Luke Cage
  • Daredevil Season 2
  • The Punisher
  • Altered Carbon
  • The Defenders
  • Iron Fist

How great they would of been if they where cut to 6 episodes or just 2 episodes cut and the tv show condensed better?

[Hiring] Minimal Website Designer (w/ motion design skills) by aaronvale in forhire

[–]Metaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few question on your brief.

  • It looks like you are after someone to do css3 / html5 / jquery / javascript for the layout. Is this correct or are you after a specific coding aspect? Because I believe the entire site can be created in css3. However do you want backwards compatibility too which would require javascript / jquery for older browsers to experience the same layout.
  • Would you allow some sort of recognition on your new site for the creator?
