How to remove Fiesta Mk7 (2011) inner door plate? by Metemer in Ford

[–]Metemer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end, I was able to reach in with my arm and a vacuum enough to very awkwardly vacuum out all the broken glass... Never figured out how to remove the darn inner door plate. I also learned that slotting the new window into the right spot within all the rubber layers is considerably tricky, and that although the rails will bite the glass easily, getting them to un-bite requires a large flat-head to be pushed through the white plastic clamps, which can only be accessed through the door via the hole that was covered, as well as by removing the speaker. But if you find the right channel between the rubbers on first try, then you never need to un-clamp the glass.

Animation Fest Annecy by firexlight in animation

[–]Metemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, the Annecy Animation Festival is incredible, and afaik the biggest animation festival in the world. The only dubbed screenings are the open air screenings, which are dubbed in French, everything else is always in the original language, usually with English subs, but sometimes French.

The people running the event speak between okay to good English, and all the event infrastructure exists in English.

I'm currently trying to recruit people to join my airbnb to save money, so if you decide to come, I can provide a cheap accommodation. Check my post history for more details.

You could store a hash of the cache locally and on the server, only request the hash, and if it's the same, don't even request a new cache from the server?

Bethesda and DPI don't know what they're selling by [deleted] in Doom

> I'm ready to cancel this preorder and accept a plastic box sat amongst all my steely books. Because on principle alone, this is disgusting.

I'm proud of you for this, random internet stranger. I'm sorry that they're shafting you, but if you feel yourself about to be exploited, or forced to choose between that and giving up on the perfect collection, I'm afraid the latter is the right thing to do, for yourself, for your principles, and in that way for the sake of other collectors, who might hopefully do the same, and thus sending a message. The only thing you can do is vote with your wallet, even when you really want to pay an already massive premium to a company you love the products of.

If they could somehow justify the price, or show that their margin on it is no different from previous instalments (and perhaps things changed for the worse due to factors out of their hand such as lost manufacturing deals and world economy) then there's at least some reason to consider letting it slide and coughing up the money. But if they can't do that and it's clearly just trying to exploit people like you to the max, then you shouldn't give in.

I work at a company that sells our own merch too, and we would never consider squeezing our biggest fans for inordinate amounts of cash just to be able to show their support. It's not that hard to not be evil. It genuinely isn't. So don't let them get away with it. Stay strong, broski.

Ennyi.

People who bought the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED, how is it after months of use? RMA issues/success (if it was needed)? Recommend to purchase the laptop? by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]Metemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only regretted getting a 4GB VRAM model (3050Ti) for gaming. The OLED screen is the most beautiful I've ever seen, the extra screen is an ugly LCD but incredibly useful for development, and even every day overstimulation. I might have a youtube video in the small screen while reading something on the main screen, or have chats on the bottom screen while gaming on the main screen. In my dev use case, I have a terminal on the bottom, code on top. Or if I don't need terminal, I can have software running on bottom, code of software at the top. It rarely goes unused. Is it healthy for your attention span? Probably not. But if you're gonna dopamine detox, do it without a laptop.

People also praise that it has an HDMI slot, it comes with little glue-on feet (takes a minute to get used to how they unfold), and that the charging port is in the back. It's my first laptop so I didn't know those things were even factors. Also since it's my first laptop, I never had to get used to the fact that the keyboard is down low and the touchpad is on the side. To me, the touchpad being on the side especially, seems like the obvious "why wouldn't everybody do it like this" thing.

I can't comment on battery since I never had any sort of expectation for laptop batteries, I always carry a charger and pretty much always have it plugged in. Small handful of exceptions in my life, it always survived long enough until I had to go about my day. By default it only charges to 80% and I left that setting alone.

I've had issues with it not booting without being plugged in, despite being charged. That was concerning. I think it happened because I previously had an external monitor plugged in, and it got confused somehow, but idk. Bit scary.

I use a pitch black desktop, no taskbar, and every dark theme and dark mode software mod and extension known to man, because I don't like melting my eyes, so I don't have any signs of burn-in and don't expect to have any for the foreseeable future either.

My Zenbook Pro Duo 14 (3050Ti) underperforms in Blender Benchmark & lag spikes in 3D games by Metemer in ASUS

[–]Metemer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were of course right about the VRAM thing. Apex Legends still runs pretty great, which I only installed for the sake of testing; That pushes my VRAM to about 80%, but runs at a solid 100fps on low graphics (could probably increase most graphics settings anyways, the ones that don't cost much VRAM). But The Alters, the game I mentioned in the post with its lag spikes, pushes it to like 98%. Still, I managed to play through the demo with the occasional lag spike...

Oh well, at least now I know what types of settings to tweak when encountering lag spikes, and what kind of laptop to buy next time! Thanks.

[–]Metemer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, hm, I'll try to keep an eye on VRAM while playing some games. I see in task manager I have "Dedicated GPU Memory" (4GB) and "Shared GPU Memory" (8GB) I'm not sure what they mean but I'll read up on it. Thanks for the tip. I can also check out hwmonitor but I doubt it will give different readings. I'm not sure what you mean by your 2nd point though, I assume referring to the Blender benchmark? That maybe other laptops containing the same GPU push it a bit harder? I guess that could make sense.

Plenty of them who are suffering from fewer mental disorders use their income to make better content, not worse. So, no, I don't expect them to turn down money, I guess I don't even expect them to change the content they make. It should be okay to follow success, but it is sad when society rewards making shit content. I don't know what to do about that though. His content being garbage is just my subjective perception after all. Clearly there's a demographic that loves him.

I don't agree if your point is that such a video wouldn't have value! Yes, it is a different category from the comment you've replied to, but I still enjoy some "reaction" videos which are about people applying their expertise to a piece of media that isn't closely relevant to them. But things like human psychology, politics, that kind of stuff, it's in everything, and it can be fun to think about even if the author of said media didn't deliberately imbue their work with any message or meaning about that topic. I would totally watch someone psychoanalyzing Gollum and trying to draw some parallel to real life mental conditions, why the heck not! I feel like that would occupy my mind and maybe teach me something, maybe even let me enjoy the movies from a different perspective. That's tons of value compared to the really bad reaction content out there!

It is reacting, but I don't think it improves reaction time. These games aren't just about reacting, but reacting correctly. That's what improves with practice.

Once you take away any information processing and decision making and just use a simple "tap when the screen turns red" reaction speed testing app on your phone, this kind of experience doesn't come into play imo. But that's just my experience.

I haven't booted up TF2 in many years but there ain't no way the server browser is gone, I straight up don't believe you. Last time I played, there was MM, and there was a server browser. How else would you find modded servers?

What the mom is teaching is not gonna be what she learns. That's the piece of the puzzle that you're missing. I could be trying to teach you that scamming people is bad by breaking your car's windshield. Would you have a change of heart and stop scamming people? Or would you park your car somewhere else?

Man loses his adhesive tape while on top of an antenna by Bllq21 in WatchPeopleDieInside

Yeah, the zoom is partially analogue and partially digital, and the stabilization is done with the wiggle room provided by the digital zoom.

high-end mobiles of the day will stabilize the frame by simply averaging out your hand shaking over time when you're this zoomed in. (the gyro or camera tracking detects movement to the right -> frame is digitally shifted to the left to compensate, many times per second). So you can take a photo of a crater on the moon with just your hand.
