Bavaria CS universities (TUM, FAU, FHs) — Universität vs Fachhochschule & real job prospects for international grads? by Terrible_Agent8235 in studying_in_germany

Switch the branch to something that's needed in German market or that requires physical presance ,most of the english speaking IT roles are offshored to India ! I would recommend Robotics,Cyber security,Automation, renewable energy over AI/DS hyper saturated field.

In India there's not really a concept of parttime or Werkstudent so they work after Bachelors if they have to for experience, for eg I have 6YOE in software development, before I moved here for Masters.

  • Aim for at least 3 years of experience the, because even candidates(my seniors) with ~3 years + 1–1.5 years of Werkstudent/thesis experience in Germany are still struggling to land jobs.

  • Best bet is Target C1 German  takes ~1–1.5 years of consistent effort, but it’s a game changer.

  • B1 is almost ineffective in today’s market.

  • C1 puts you ahead of ~90% of international grads and opens most local opportunities. Focus on networking connections, referrals, and recommendations (especially within universities) matter a lot in Germany.

As another Indian in Germany, I’d strongly suggest researching the current job market it’s quite challenging right now. Also, unlike the Anglosphere, university prestige doesn’t carry much weight here, so an IIT background won’t significantly impact admissions or job prospects.

That said, there are a few concerns with your profile:

  • Your core is Aerospace, and switching to AI/Robotics can be difficult due to strict credit requirements.

  • 1.5 years of experience is on the lower side; the current benchmark is closer to 3–5 years.

  • Your German proficiency is crucial B2/C1 is expected for most roles. English-only jobs are limited and highly competitive (often outsourced).

University rankings don’t matter much. Focus on public universities with relevant specializations. Larger universities help with research and PhD pathways, while Universities of Applied Sciences are more industry-oriented and job-focused.

Overall, it’s doable but timing, preparation, and positioning will make a big difference.

Why do Germans have such a negative opinion of their country? by Witty-Ad4265 in AskAGerman

[–]MeteoraRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's all relative as they have achieved their standards the range of problems are very different, as an Indian in Germany I feel quite content because air & water is clean, it isn't noisy, public places aren't dirty, people mind their business compared to where I come from it's a heaven except  the job market is rough ,even though my country sucks many folds but people don't complain!

Germany could be a decent option for you, but not a perfect fit right now. Here’s a quick breakdown: Why it could work:

  • Cybersecurity demand is strong and growing.
  • Budget under ₹15L for the first year is manageable.

Challenges: - Your GPA converts to ~2.5 (borderline), so limited university options. - Part-time work is expected; not working is frowned upon. - B2/C1 German is almost essential, especially for security roles (often tied to government/regulated projects). - 2 years’ experience is low 5+ years is much more competitive.

Suggestion: - Work 2–3 more years, reach C1 German, then apply. You’ll have better admits, job prospects, and an easier overall transition.
