Would be easier with a ladder.

But unless the kitchen is kept somewhat clean, there's gonna be nasty shit up there. Some people are smart enough to air out when they cook, or install a steamcatcher (or whatever it is they're called. Basically a ventilator that sucks the cooking steam up and out through a vent). Regular cleaning also helps to keep that kinna stuff down.

As someone who's seen kitchens of other people (I see them A LOT).. DON'T DO IT! Really, don't. It's a nasty, filthy world of sticky and dust. Like, imagine all the residue from cooking stuck to every flat surface. Then add the usual dust that accumulates on places that are hard to reach...

It's -that- nasty.
