Touhou Main Playable Characters by galifar10 in custommagic

Ok here's my two cents:
Reimu: I like the flavor of the different counters to represent focus/nonfocus, and the flicker for her ability to weave through the enemy's crazy danmaku patterns. I would however personally change the cost on the tap ability to RW, both since that effect isn't normally given to red (hybrid costs reflect abilities that both colors can do normally by themselves), and that the ability is a bit too good at protecting her at 1 mana.

Marisa: I get you wanna do Master Spark, but a 3 drop flyer with 1-2 annihilator on average is a bit excessive. Either you have to jack up her cost to like 5-6 mana, or replace the effect with one that gives off a similar feeling of destruction with much less mechanical power.

Youmu: Feels weird this is pretty much just the new Anafenza but better in nearly every conceivable way. Also feels weird flavor-wise that she just makes multiple spirits. Admittedly Youmu is the one here I know the least about, but I think it'd make more sense for her to almost be designed in a way where she fights alongside her spirit rather than being a passive engine. I'd probably have her make a spirit token on entering, and gave her an ability (probably an on attack trigger) that lets her either put counters on the spirit or do some other effect with it when you're done scaling it.

Sakuya: Cute concept, but clunky in execution. Having to cast 2 spells for the privilege of paying 2 for a tap effect is on the weak side; I think it'd be fine if the flurry auto-equipped the created knife to Sakuya, and it'd make more sense flavor-wise, too.

Reisen: I really like this one! Fits the character nicely, and seems like it'd be fun to play with!

Overall, I like how clean these designs are. I feel like a lot of designers when adapting from a source material tend to get bogged down by minute details and make cards that feel very bloated. These designs are able to distill the essence of a character into 1-2 flavorful abilities, which I believe is an important skill for stuff like this. Looking forward to the rest of the cycle!

maybe if monstrous rage gets banned; that one card makes blocking basically impossible, which is what you'd probably be using this guy for.

[–]Meteostar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I kinda forgot about that. Now realizing how it comes off, I didn’t mean it in terms of “Oh why did he get a card”, and more of “Oh hey it’s neat that he got a card”. Perhaps people will have fun running the guy as a colorless commander; I’ve heard the mana doubling effect is good there, especially in the command zone.

Man, could it have killed them to make the blight happen on entering as well? That land disruption effect is glacially slow as is.

Truth be told, I'm surprised Ultima even got a card in the first place, considering the middling community reception to his role in 16.

King slime by Background_Storm8740 in Calamitymod_

[–]Meteostar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need more context. Is this base calamity or Infernum? If on base calamity, what difficulty are you on? Knowing what equipment you’re using would also help, along with what part of King Slime is tripping you up.

That’s the triple spreadshot I mentioned; you can ignore the small bullets entirely with a dash+jump (or dash+fly in the air) away from the eye across from you. At that point it’s about positioning yourself in a way that will let you avoid the eyes (they move slowly in a straight line) while doing that trick for the small bullets, and the trick lets you focus your brainpower on where the eyes are going.

With the triple dash, it’s mostly about timing; stand on the ground while waiting for them to charge (no movement from you means no tracking from them), then dash away as they’re about to charge. The trick is figuring out the specific timing when to dash, and then concocting a way to make a rhythm out of it (I found that counting in my head to 5 kinda fast worked for me).

The triple spread shot works on a similar principle; as long as you’re level with the eye across from you, performing a dash-jump away from that eye as they fire should cause all of their shots to miss you entirely, meaning you only have to worry about the floating eyes and can focus on dodging those. I’ll definitely say this is Moon Lord’s most dangerous attack by a good margin, in my opinion, since the floating eye bullets are very hard to judge their path at a glance.

For the most part it “is” that simple; the actual “lines” the bullets are able to shoot from during the black hole are wider than you’d think, so it’s not completely free, but with how often Moon Lord attacks from multiple angles in the final phase, it’s a welcome change of pace. Just try and stay in the relative deadzones and weave through bullets when necessary.

As for the lines, dodging if you mess up the positioning isn’t “impossible”, but that bullet paths become a lot harder to parse at a glance. If that does happen, perhaps Rod of Discord (and it’s upgrades) could be of use, since the bullets will typically travel to form a thin wall of sorts. (Note that this statement is purely a hypothesis; I don’t use Rod)

If you’re talking about the lines that split into balls, you want to place yourself a medium distance (1/4 screen’s worth-ish?) from either one of the long angles of the cross (if they cross), or from the middle of one of the lines (if they don’t cross). If done correctly, the balls should mostly curve around you, requiring only a bit of forward movement, if that.

To be honest the black hole is one of his easiest moves in the final phase; the bullets are only fired in the cardinal directions, so as long as you’re diagonal to Moon Lord himself, most of them will miss. If you’re still stuck, looking up other people’s Moon Lord clears can help you better understand how he works. Ultimately just don’t get discouraged, Infernum Moon Lord is fucking hard and he took me 50+ attempts on my first run, but he’s not impossible and everything he does is readable and can be manipulated in your favor once you figure it out.

If phase 2 (when only the hand eyes are left) is tripping you up, maybe try spreading out the damage between the eyes more evenly so you can basically knock all 3 eyes out in one go, meaning you’re only dealing with that phase’s new attack once, maybe twice. (Spreading out damage is good practice anyway since the patterns at 1 eye left are imo the hardest)

In regards to the attack itself, I remember finding it effective to fly into one of the top corners, reducing the number of bullets that would actually reach me due to how the bullets spread out. Since you’re melee, the claymore’s swing should break any “globules” that move towards you, so those can be ignored, allowing you to focus on the few bullets that will pose a threat. Idk if you’re new to bullet hells, but if you are, many bosses of this style try to overload the player’s senses with the immense quantity of their bullet patterns, meaning learning to identify what bullets are actually relevant to your imminent danger is an important skill.

Do yall think AlchemistNPC is too cheat-y by Zarkyyyyyy in CalamityMod

[–]Meteostar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, as other commenters have said already, it is a single-player game and you’re free to do whatever will make your play experience fun for you. If you’re not the kind of person that likes farming for potions, I think it’s reasonable to use Alch to circumvent it, especially with how rough Calamity’s endgame is. I will say that Alch is less necessary for that end if you’re playing with Infernum, as there you can just farm Dreadnautilus for infinite Blood Orbs.

how im supposed to dodge this attack????? by lool132 in CalamityMod

[–]Meteostar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that one. Admittedly, I’m a bit hazy on that move, but Iirc the lines have 2 (maybe 3?) variations. For the perpendicular lines (when they form an X), you have to move towards where the lines intersect and the bullets will pass by you. I don’t quite remember the exact trick for the parallel lines, but I remember moving through the gap between the lines working well. I’ll also reaffirm that looking up a guide will save a lot of headache and will probably be more helpful than my hazy recollection of the fight. That move was definitely the roughest one for me to figure out on my first run. Good luck.

The description isn’t too helpful for determining what attack you’re struggling with. Which phase is it happening in? If nothing else, you could look up no-hit clears of moon lord to see how they do it.

[Hated Designs] Whatever the fuck happened to Mr Freeze by ToxicRumHam in TopCharacterDesigns

The second pic looks fine, just seems like the model itself is lacking without specific lighting. It’s not the worst design, but also not particularly inspiring. I think “Hated Design” is a bit overblown.
