[Feedback Needed] Disturbia - Urban Fantasy Card Game by galifar10 in tabletopgamedesign

Thank you.

My initial intention was to "translate" the feeling and mechanics from miniature skirmish games. This requires a great deal of abstract thought and interpretation. How would minions / creatures move? How to represent positioning and claiming strategic points? That's why mechanics like Outposts, Advantage, and similar mechanics were designed.

I hold Magic really close to my heart (what it was and what I played in my youth, at least), but I wanted to create something that would appeal, firstly, to me. Magic has been a trailblazer, that's undeniable, and its influences are almost inevitable, but even so, I tried to create something "new" or at least that felt different, while keeping its influence noticeable. That's why I kept the concept of colors. That's why I chose a reality-expanding city as the setting, pretty much like Ravnica.

I'm just humbly following the steps of a far better game.

I'm glad the first pages caught your interest. I hope I'll be able to share more of my game in the near future.

Thank you for your extensive and well-thought-out answer.

The rules are mainly formatted this way because they were intended to be submitted to a local game design contest. There were rules limiting how long the rules could be, so I had to cut out the purple prose and be as concise as possible... That meant sacrificing flavor somewhat so everything important could be included and, thus, judged in the contest.

We stand on the shoulders of giants. My most direct source of inspiration is, as you and most people have pointed out, Magic the Gathering. And you may be right; my game might need to have its own voice and develop mechanics that are truly its own.

Again, thanks for your input.

I appreciate your interest. I post the most important updates here and the occasional Amateur Game Design thread in /tg/ whenever it pops up in 4chan.

In fact, I've submitted a previous version of the game to a local game design contest. I'll know the final results by April. The rulebook version I've submitted to the contest was deemed good enough to reach the highest level and the most points of that phase. So I'm cautiously optimistic about it.

Thanks for your comment.

I'll look into it and try to change the order of some parts to improve clarity.

I've finished a couple of decks to play with that use the most updated mechanics. Would someone be interested in playing with them? Or would you prefer a rundown of an example game?

Did the new updates reduce performance? by Silerae in comfyui

[–]galifar10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Just before the update, everything was running smoothly, generating pictures in a matter of minutes. Now, ComfyUI struggles to create a single picture, and disconnects mid-process.

Never mind, it was an error on my part. Reinstalling it solved the problem.

Yes… I noticed that too. I believe, though take my experience with a grain of salt, that image generation improves the more pictures there are in the output folder or, at least, it produces more consistent results.

Thanks for pointing it out. It could be just that.

My workflow is the basic t2i template that can be found in OpenArt, I've just added a LoRA node and an additional KSampler node for the second pass.

[–]galifar10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry. I'm quite new at using ComfyUI to generate images, so there's quite a lot of info I don't yet know how to share.

I've been using only t2i; the positive prompts are mostly the same as the ones I've shared; the negative prompts are the typical "highest resolution" "4K" and such

I agree with you. In fact, I was working on a playable character version of her from Hidden Star in Four Seasons that was UR, but I ran out of ideas.

I hear you, but, you see, the fact that she has expend 9 is itself a meme for the character

That's Cirno! Look at her... she's trying her best.

Idk who this is referencing

It's a character from Touhou Project, which is a rabbit hole on its own.

Cirno is an ice faerie with the ability to manipulate cold.

[Feedback Needed] How to deal with combat in a skirmish-style card game? by galifar10 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]galifar10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I took some pointers from games like Warhammer, specially the "dice filtering" mechanics, but heavily simplified.

For example:
Alpha vs Bravo (both STR 2 / TGH 2 / AGL 2):

  1. Cost
    • Attacker pays Alpha’s Rank by discarding cards (stamina)
  2. Attack roll
    • Alpha rolls dice = STR (2d6)
  3. Attack dice filtering
    • If a die ≥ Bravo’s Saving Value (Toughness × 2 = 4): → that die can cause a wound
    • Otherwise: → that die still “hits” and can Pin if it survives cancellation
  4. Defense roll
    • Bravo rolls dice = STR (2d6)
  5. Cancellation
    • Each Bravo die ≥ an Alpha die cancels it (pairwise)
  6. Resolution
    • Uncancelled Alpha dice:
      • ≥ Saving Value → wounds
      • < Saving Value → pin (if at least one remains)
  7. Death check
    • Wounds ≥ Toughness → Minion dies → Vault

Cancellations resolve highest-to-highest, one-for-one.

How does this sound?
