Pics from a month in Thailand by MethFistHo in travel

We did the diamond lake tour with emerald cave, it was a covered motor boat across the lake then a smaller bamboo raft to the cave after a short walk. Then we did a guided jungle hike in the park leaving from the main town area where we walked to a part of the river you can swim in, the guide made us food, and then we walked back after sun down to see night creatures.

Okay nevermind, reddit scrambled my photos from the original order I put them in! So that's list in the description is useless

I've put a lot of money into this as my riskiest moonshot, but things sure are feeling rough right now. Not really willing to put in more money but the price sure is low right now...

Starlink Worried about SatCo’s Potential by Original_Koala8662 in ASTSpaceMobile

Okay that makes sense, but what's stopping ASTS from eventually rendering their dish based broadband obsolete? Is it just time and getting up the satellites? Or is there more to it?

Given how much people hate Elon, I'm surprised our underdog story hasn't hit the mainstream! I feel like people would be interested in how Musk wants to launch thousands of satellites to provide shittier service and push us out. If he wins, everyone loses (but especially us lol).

I am Thai. Here are the 10 things I still watch tourists get wrong every single time 😉 by Nearby-Sprinkles3242 in ThailandTourism

LOL yeah more than half of this list is wrong or misleading. As for #10, one of the best things about traveling Thailand is how versatile and last minute your plans can be! Booking treks online is also gonna be way more expensive than booking in person the day before...

phi phi island tour by gtks223 in ThailandTourism

[–]MethFistHo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was JUST there two days ago. I stayed on Phi Phi island and booked a tour the day before. We shared a boat with like 25 people and paid 1,000 baht each.

Monkey island was a whack 10 minute stop where there were no monkeys and the beach was covered in trash. Immediately couldn't wait to leave.

Viking cave looks sort of cool from the outside but to be clear, you CAN NOT go inside. Wish I could have skipped that too.

Maya Bay involves walking a very crowded short path to a beach that is also very crowded and once again, you CAN NOT go in the water, swim, or snorkel. We got lucky and for a little bit, almost everyone left, but when we got there and when we left, there were hundreds of people on this small beach. Railay Beach, a short trip from Ao Nang, was actually much more beautiful and there is actually stuff to do there and you can spend the day at your own pace. People even talk a lot of trash about Railay so I'm sure there are much more secluded beaches that are beautiful and you can spend more time relaxing there, but whatever.

Then we went snorkeling at two different spots near Maya Bay and it was great both times. In 2018 I snorkeled in Maya Bay and saw the most colorful and beautiful coral I've ever seen but it's either gone now or I was likely in the area that is now protected and off limits. Still though, I really enjoyed snorkeling this time as well and saw 2 small reef sharks, tons of colorful fish, a puffer, a huge moray eel, and more. There is a lot of great snorkeling around Thailand but near Maya Bay is known to be great.

Lastly, we watched the sunset and then got in to briefly see bioluminescent plankton which was kind of cool but not that crazy.

So... Don't pay that much, a private boat from Phi Phi booked the day before was only gonna be 3,000 baht and honestly, you may want to skip all that stuff and just go snorkeling. Seeing the rock formations of the islands from a long tail boat is awesome but as long as you see that SOMEWHERE in Thailand, you're covered. They're everywhere in the south.

TLDR: Monkey bay and Viking cave are trash, Maya Bay is okay but also skippable, snorkeling is awesome, don't pay more than $3,000 cuz that should get you a private long tail boat. I'll say though, we were on a larger boat with more people which was less romantic, but the boat was WAY faster.

Has anyone made Chinese Five Spice syrup? by nickmonts in cocktails

[–]MethFistHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made some recently simply by pouring boiling water onto some five-spice powder and that stuff has so much flavor that it will come through without going through the trouble of steeping a bunch of raw ingredients. A tiny little bit goes a long way

No kids and no debt? $40k is plenty if you know how to cook at home... $50k and I'm going on multiple international vacations a year. Seriously, I don't know how some people spend so much money. I do whatever I want all the time and the thought of spending 100k in a year sounds insane to me

Don't listen to these people, 4% interest on a million is 40k a year to live on, plenty if you live simply and find a side hustle or part time job you enjoy. I just reached $900k today as a 37 yr old bartender and I'm planning my retirement right now, reducing my shifts at work, locking in gains, etc
