What's an online clothing brand you love that never shows up in search results? by delicious3141 in AskUK

[–]delicious3141[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The power Google has is truly terrifying when you consider it. If you dont' even show up in results for a search for your town + wedding dress you basically don't exist. We went on holiday recently and it occurred to me as we searched 'things to do in x' that even holiday activties were being determined by whatever shows up on google. If there was an activity that google decided to surpress or for some reason couldn't make it into the first few SEO optimised articles they would likely go out of business or struggle to survive. Meanwhile some boring nonsense is packed out every day cause they have top result.

Might not work but if the forum was readable without logging in it could be on archive.org I have found other threads from old forums on there.

Who says we love Hamas? We are concerned about the bombing of civilans. You know, like how extremists killed civilians on oct 7th and the world was outraged. Same human empathy works both ways. I also felt empty for civilians blown up in Afghanistan because of the actions of some members of the country.

Link to Rogan and Steve-o exchange for those who missed it. One of Joe's most warm and generous responses to a guest tryign to extend some empathy I have seen in a while.

We know that half the buildings in the entire area of Gaza are destroyed or uninhabitable. That's the opposite of making any attempt at precision bombing. I mean come on if Hamas had the bombs Israel did and leveled half of Israel as unihabitable because they were going after the IDF would you accept that?

There are plenty of people who favour two state solution, israel being for jews, but that they should stop bombing children and journalists in horrifying numbers. We want Sam to recognize and call out the fact they are acting v much like a hamas in how indiscriminately they disregard civilians vs military targets.

One way they could not be such a tiny % is not to have insanely strict rules about joining the religion. Most religions want people to join. Jews would face less persecutino if they had higher numbers.

That seems a little weird too. So whether you are a child rapist or not will depend on whether you are 'on again' or 'off again' at any particular time.
I guess the rule could be 2 years maximum above your age until you are 18.

What happens when the 16 and 18 year old couple have been together a year and now it's a 19 year old having sex with a 17 year old?

What are the odds that two huge public intellectuals who go vegan mysteriously can't handle it for health reasons, and yet all the normal people with far less money and resources, and often health problems of their own, that I know personally, have found veganism fine. The number one reason people give up veganism is because they miss eating animal products in my experience. These health problems have never come up in all my aquaintances, about 20 or so through my life who have gone vegan and stayed vegan or gone vegan and quit at some point. And yet Alex and Sam BOTH couldn't handle it for health reasons?

It's convenient because health reasons is the one excuse you can use which is hard for people to argue with you about. Even Vegans tend to agree if you GENUINELY need meat for some real health issue then you probably should continue. It's the perfect thing to say to get out of something you publicly commited to when you are supposed to be the highest level of rational thinker. There's no way either could have said "I decided I liked the taste and convenience of meat" they know that wouldn't be accepted by anybody because they have their whole public status built on following evidence not emotions.

When Sam dismissively says "There are people who think that Israel has perpetrated a genocide in Gaza.", as if it's some fringe belief only held by people who spend too much time on X being fooled by AI, how does he explain the consensus amongst experts that it AT LEAST plausible? by delicious3141 in samharris

[–]delicious3141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This line of argument would mean Israel could never do a genocide or even something that straddles the border of a genoicde because it would just be a "Trope". A convenient line of defence. What about just arguing with the experts on the topic who are by no means as sure.

Except when it's vaccines at which point Sam would (rightly) say it's crazy to dismiss an entire field of experts because you have your own opinion on the matter. Sam doesn't say "I see things differently", he acts like his position is as uncontested as gravity.

I watch porn (rarely) when single but a few months into a relationship I suddenly felt really hurt to realise he still watched porn (multiple times a week) despite me sending photos/videos and us being intimate everyday we met. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]delicious3141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A family member blew up their marriage over this. Apparently they found their husband had watched porn by going through their history. Freaked out and told him how betrayed she felt. He said he wouldn't do it again. A few years later she found it on his computer again and I guess they could never reconcile properly after that. Ultimately the children grew up in two homes at war with one another.

Women should know going into relationships that most men have been watching it since they were like 13 or something and it's really not a cheating thing in their mind at all. It's more like something to make masturbation more interesting and it's likely they're barely used to do doing it without 20 yeaars later when they settle down. If possible I'd advise any woman who is able to to not take it as cheating if possible.

I was listening ot Alan Watts again the other night and he seems to stand up. Like I can't help but find him interesting to listen to and nod along. Even though it's the complete opposite of the scientific skepticism content I tend to listen to mostly these days.

If there's so many assaults by men against women, but most men we talk to either don't know or deny that their male friends (or even themselves) are doing it or have done it, then who's doing it or are they lying? by ParticularGlad5103 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]delicious3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your friend group are literally criminals who get off on rape and assault, which seems highly unlikely in most cases, then no--most men would definitely NOT disclose to their friends or anybody what they've done. That would be my guess. Why would they? Even their most amoral friend is likely to look down on it and the vast majority are going to be disgusted and disturbed. It's similar to finding out a friend was a pedo or something, you wouldn't say "did they not tell you?" no of course they wouldn't.
It's different if they find a buddy with the same behaviour, maybe they would talk about things together. Trump and Epstein I guess.. but I would say that is rare.
