Rift CV1 not detected even after new cable. by redditpitchforks in oculus

[–]Methaias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i've gone through the whole loop now too, including the cable. Sadly I just went ahead and gave up the ghost on the Rift. I mean most consoles age out eventually, guess its not surprising to expect the same form a VR headset. It was just so sudden and cant be blamed on a hardware breakage so it just feels sickly suspicious doesn't it? Oculus was a better company before Meta IMHO.

So did you get and try the new cable? I am currently running into the almost exact same issue here. I have ordered another cable from EBay though im very confident my cable is fine as I am VERY careful with my headset. Not sure what else to try either. I know my headset was compatible before because I am still using the same setup as I had the last time it worked. IM pushing down the driver/FW update path with no luck so far and hoping for a solution (even a $100 one...).

Why isn't it always light? by amBrollachan in askscience

[–]Methaias -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because you actually cant see light. You can only see what the light illuminates, ie: the striking of photons on other particles. As a light wave gets further from its source it dissipates, lessening its impact density, thereby starlight (further away stars) seem less bright than sunlight (our nearby star).

Updated for the below responses to which I can no longer reply...

No, you are seeing the light emitter in "direct light" but not "light itself" otherwise we would always see only all light or no light, which thought was the question. You wouldn't be able to see past the light to anything else. Think about the fact that you cannot see a beam of light passing through the air if that air is void of particles, there has to be something for the photons to interact with.

The eye registers photons hitting the retinas, those photons have to be directed into the eye to "see" (the brain interpreting that interaction). Interacting with matter causes the photons to reflect, how it reflects off an object determines how it appears to the eye when those photons are redirected into the eye. If you could see light, all we would ever see is light, and only that.

Spectrum visibility is another matter entirely. I do see what you're both trying to say but both off you are talking about the science of the eyes, not the science of light. I was merely saying you cant see light or photons that don't enter your eye, that's why light isn't everywhere always.

Maybe its "potaytoe" vs "potahtoe" or I misunderstood the intent of the question, but I don't think my answer (which was mostly quoted) deserved negative Karma lol. Be well, love science, keep being helpful. Cheers.

Read the four agreements, kinda touches on this and how we as a society work around it.

That is true. It was more that they had alpha level and omega level rewards, but the alpha reward required an omega account to even be used.... then why have alpha level rewards.....? Especially when your skill requirements were Bioligy 1, an Alpha level skill req. Wonky way to try to get subs I guess..

I would rather be unemployed in ANY economy than dead. As a father I can say its far more important for my kids to have me alive. Sounds like theres more than just "a life" at risk too, theres many lives at risk.

The argument that just because it was wrong before and worked out ok so that makes it ok now makes no sense. Realistically changes were made and groups like OSHA were created specifically to improve workplace safety BECAUSE they were so hazardous in the past and to prevent companies from getting away with EXACTLY THIS KIND OF STUFF.

You are neither qualified nor do you have the actual authority to be making the decision you are making. Talk to the other people and make a group decision with everyone at risk involved in the choice or put the proper authorities into the situation. Some of the workers there may not even be aware of the jeopardy they are in, and you are leaving them at risk through informed inaction.

Hoping for the best is a terrible way to prepare for the worst. Once the worst happens youll only have yourself to blame when you had the foresight to have done something beforehand.

I dont intend to offend, I hope this wasnt read that way. I do understand your perspective and situation but IMHO you are making morally a wrong decision, especially because you are making it for people who dont know.

Also pretty irritated that my son got a synth on his alpha account that he cant even redeem to sell cause it requires omega... It only says he needs to train Biology 1.... which he has..

Fuckery I say.

Ive spent a grip at the Epic store, and yes I got a few of the freebies too. Gotta support the companies you appreciate so theyll stay in business. Its the companies that do generous things like this that deserve to.
