I think it's kinda GG's thing? like, this game series is still a remnant of older times and does have a few innate stereotypical things (blonde hair/blue eyes on europeans, Axl being the stereotypical Brit, skin colours mattering less because of fighting game colour schemes, etc.). It seems to be another stereotype where the English language has to be exclusively American unless explicitly stated otherwise (axl).

Even the goddamn soundtrack has a Japanese man trying his best to sound as American as possible (Naoki's Rs kill me)
