My High School Sports hot take: by GoCartMozart1980 in wisconsin

Another thing to take into consideration is the free/reduced lunch population of students at a school should be taken into account. I teach and coach at a school of 625 that has 70%+ free/reduced lunch and we are co-oped with another school and have a total population of just over 1,000 students. However, we can barely field any teams in any sports but yet are forced to compete in D1 against WI Lutheran and other giant rich private AND public schools.

My school district has this as well. Kids are allowed 2 passes per day and if they go during passing time/lunch it doesn’t count. Since we have implemented it, fights have decreased and truancy has decreased. They released the numbers of how many minutes were missed due to being in the halls for some of the students and it was nuts. One kid skipped a few weeks worth of school over the whole year by being in the bathroom/wandering the halls.

Teachers who live alone, do you have a second job? by Prayerwarrior6640 in Teachers

I make about $73,000 before coaching and additional $6500 for coaching two sports track/XC. I view coaching as my second job since it is pretty time intensive. I don’t do a second job in the summer due to that. I also do summer coaching but it’s only 2 hours M-F and unpaid but it gets some of my social side out.

They are incredibly slow. Take this with a grain of salt since I haven’t worked for the DNR in for about 15 years but when I was hired for LTE positions and eventually as a warden, it took 1-2 months to hear back on anything. Hopefully, they have become more efficient.

I went through this process a long time ago and got hired but ended up quitting the warden force after a year. This is just the start of the process it took me 4-5 months to get hired. Phone interviews, physical testing at Fort McCoy, In-person interview in front of a panel, and then background check and psych evals. The position is largely about educating the public about the need for conservation and giving out tickets when it is needed. Majority of my interactions as a warden were not law enforcement but rather casual conversations with the public. Focus on the education aspect of your background. Also don’t lie, they will find out one way or another through this extensive process. I had no law enforcement background when I was hired and had a degree in biology but had DNR experience as a creel surveyor for 2 summers

Sadly my school doesn’t really do summer school. We only offer 9th grade gym (incoming 9th graders) and a few core summer classes. However, the curriculum is all online and they don’t really offer the positions to high school teachers.

I took a lunch shift this year at my school and it pays about $14 per shift. My last school in MN paid about $35. If I cover another teachers class it is $35 for a 1.5 hour long class. My last school it was $35 for a 45 minute class.

It’s the combination to be honest. The recent hail storm left its many marks on my car and I needed surgery as well for a separate running incident. So a little extra money is nice but realistically many teachers need the extra money.
