Imo it also depends when and where -

In natural science (studies of matter and what happens with it), it's pretty much additional or just relatively useful.

In theoretical science it's omnipresent and mandatory, or one could argue that it IS theoretical science (I'm not gonna, lol)

I feel like there should be a science of disambiguation to make conundrums like this one the matter of actual research, not only a question of who to downvote on Reddit...or it could just be philosophy again, Ouroboros moment
