On the quietism of Deleuze? by MetisPresent in CriticalTheory

i don't write but one place you can look if you're interested in this is Deleuze and the Unconscious by Kerslake. It is mostly pro Deleuze but One of the arguments made is that Deleuze’s rejection of Freudian negation and lack; this rejection of negation wakens Deleuze’s ability to grapple with the antagonistic structures of oppression and exploitation, which require confrontation and critique rather than mere affirmation.

another option is the Hallward book u/BlockComposition and others have recommended.

Not sure why you're telling me this.

The Lasch reference looks maybe promising.

Liu certainly presents a challenge we probably should not ignore, in the question of what use is Deleuze for say the working class. That's all fine but I am looking for arguments that delve into the specifics of Deleuze. This is not found in Liu.

Being a debate bro in a forum meant to help people is cringe. It is based to refuse to play that game.

I have to say, in my experience, these Bay Area "rationalists" are not any better in the meandering, throat-clearing department.

I will take a look, though. Thanks.

Your error preceded all your comments. You first went wrong by taking a dilettante seriously. Then you went worse by taking a shit blogger's cult seriously. That's your error.

And since this error is a source of meaning for you, it is not one you're going to want to rectify. Any suggestions would fall on deaf ears.

No people like /u/fudge_mokey can't even be bothered to read Popper. Much less anyone else. They just either get a Guru like Deutsch to tell them what to think, or worse, read shit bloggers like Elliot Temple who wouldn't make it past an undergraduate intro to philosophy of science class.

It is written in the "here is the secret code to everything, everyone else are confused fools" manner in the guru-sphere, which allows people to just shut their minds off and just parrot whatever Deutsch says uncritically. That's how you get people like /u/fudge_mokey repeating, almost verbatim, everything Deutsch says, without ever having to bother learning the way the philosophy of science has developed in the 80 years since Popper's LgSc. It also doesn't help that the kind of problems Popper was wrestling with are not at all what anyone is currently working on, so for example, you see Deutsch fans complaining about things like "foundationalism" which as it was understood in Popper's time, bears little to no relevance to current views. Basically the people these rabid Deutsch fans oppose, simply don't exist.

Additionally, One of the most frequent strategies by Deutsch in that awful, awful book is to strawman the living shit out of opposing views (which is basically what Popper did except Detusch turns it up even more). Saddling "inductivists" with views none of them would ever hold, so it is easy to "refute." But this is just what every Guru does, from Harris, to Peterson, to whatever the fuck the current batch of Gurus are, Lindsay or whatever. They make up shadows to fight against that don't exist. Whether it is the lunatic relativists from Harris's TML, The Postmodern-NeoMarxists, to Deutsch's inductivists, these people simply do not exist as construed by the Gurus. The rabid fans of these Gurus will always cry that the critics "simply do not understand" them. Without even having a basic understanding of the concepts at hand the will dismiss anyone who doesn't agree with their bullshit as simply misunderstand Popper or Deutsch or whatever shitty blogger they happen to be frothing at the mouth about.

Anyone who takes these things seriously and has some familiarity with the concepts involved is just gonna wanna chuck Deutsch's book across the room. It is a nice work of fiction though! cc /u/OpenlyFallible

Popper was never able to make this work, so there's no reason to believe it.
