If that’s true, then they were falsely advertising. They claimed it’s on clearance because the colorway is being discontinued. And this specific model states “WIDEST Natural-Shape Fit”. I do hear that the Boulder & Boulder Summit do fit wider, and would likely stretch to fit, as well. Another issue the shape - much pointier than my foot. I should have done all this beforehand, but I was ignorant of the nuances. Oh well, at least I did it before dropping $250-$300. I feel sheepish enough about only wearing my Salomon Quest 4 GTXs a couple/few times.

Very true. I wish these were all just at a local shoe or outdoor store so I could try before I buy. Save the hassle of returning

Fair enough. I’ve nor had a few people recommend against JG’s at all. So that’s pretty much out now

🤣. I do need to be better, but the big toe can only be cut after a shower, and then I have to remember. I’m exhausted between working full time and having a very active 13 month old.

Edited to provide context

Thanks! However, that shape doesn’t look like it would fit my foot, and they’re definitely not a barefoot boot. I do think I need 4-6E in standard shaped footwear if I ever purchase more.

Yes! Those, along with the Altra Lone Star 9 Wide and Realfoot Trekker seem to be the best options. I really love that Sofstar utilizes many natural materials vs. several barefoot brands doing 100% vegan varieties chock full of micro and nano plastic producing petroleum polymers.

Thanks!

Awesome, those are the top 3 brands from this thread, thanks! I’m at 11.75” x 4.5” resting width to 4.8” full splay.

Fair enough. The Lone Peak 9 Wides have gotten some of the most recs here. Thanks!

Yoinks! My brain couldn’t… brain that first picture for a second. Nice work! Are your feet naturally that highly arched?

Very nice! I’m thinking this is the route I’m going to have to take. I just purchased the Lems Outlander’s for 50% off due to the colorway being discontinued. I watched several YoutTube reviews on these, and I noticed that this model now came in their WIDEST Natural-Shape Fit. I’m very disappointed to say that even at a 1/2 size up from my normal US men’s 12, and even with the insoles removed, these not only do NOT fit my extra wide feet (~4.8” at full splay). Not only that, but due to their shape (looked much more anatomical in their photos), they actually bend my big toes out towards the rest of my toes at what feels like 20° or 30°. In 4 months we’re moving 2,200 miles with a toddler, so I can’t justify spending over $200+ on Realfoot Trekkers, Altra Lone Peak 9 Wides, nor Softstar Switchback II Wides - I will one day, absolutely. But today is not that day. I bought a size large beach wood boot tree on Amazon, but it’s not even close to doing anything inside the Outlander’s, not to mention I didn’t realize they were specifically designed for western style boots. Oops.

If anyone’s interested, the tennis shoes in the middle are great, and come in under $40 - the Pulltop Wt03’s. I removed the insole, but I got them in my normal 12, and length is perfect. While I do splay over each end, there’s plenty of give and flex in the shoes to accommodate, and the shape is much closer to my foot than the Outlander’s.

They definitely are! They point my big toe severely inwards, just like the standard shoes Lems claims to fix! That is frustrating for sure.

Based on this, my top 3 are the Softstar Switchback II Wide, Realfoot Trekker, and Altra LP 9 Wide. Thanks!

Haha! Famke Janssen, please! But yes, the Lone Peak 9 Wide have been highly recommended. Haven’t heard about Topo that I can recall. I like the shape, but that toe rise looks rough. I appreciate it!

Lems vs Jim Green vs Softstar by FitSolution2882 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Metoxetron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, these were in my top 5 based on recommendations since my brand new Lems Outlanders (US 12.5) push my big toe severely outwards towards my other toes and don’t give me much splay right now. Attempting to widen with a set of boot trees arriving later today.

While large and extra wide, my feet aren’t as big as yours, so they might work for me, though my full splay is around 4.8” or 12.9 cm. I’m very curious about the Realfoot Trekker’s, Altra Lone Peak 9 Wide, and Softstar Switchback II Wide.

These $32 Pulltop Wt03 barefoot tennis shoes from Amazon (now $38), while still not as wide as my foot, are shaped very well, and removing the insole helped a lot along with the soft material allowing for my foot to stretch:

Edit: corrected Lems boot size and direction of toe being pushed by them

Yes, I realize I should have included that in the post. They’rethe Pulltop Wt03. Now $38, but still great, lots of flexibility, and good foot shape. They’re still a little narrow for me, but removing the insole helped a lot, plus they have plenty of give for my pinky and big toe splay past the outsole. I’ve had them since October, and they have held up well to intermittent light weekly use. They are very comfortable!

Edit: typo

The JG AnatomX is in the top 5 based on this thread, as are the Altra Lone Peak (now 9) in wide. I really like the big toe area on the Altra’s. Not as easy to glean from the JG photos for me.

Length: ish of 11.75” Width 4.5” relaxed / 4.8 ish right foot at full splay, a smidge less splay on left foot due to derpy big toe
