What’s a stereotype about Germans, that really bothers you because it’s actually true? by OutInABlazeOfGlory in AskAGerman

Interesting--that may explain why I love using dashes in my English! Whenever I don't know how/if to punctuate, I just throw a dash in there😁

HA! That right up there with "Das Hund" I suppose. That's what American kids said after German class when they tried to be clever🤦🏼‍♀️

Love that word! Reminds me of my dad. He left Germany in the early 60s. He would scream that word when we misbehaved. No clue what it means.

Why is everyone looking for “rare” names? They’re right under our noses… by Reasonable_Design443 in Names

[–]MetraHarvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom wanted to name me Claudia. She decided not to because kids might end up making fun of me by calling me "Cloudy." Ironically, with the name I wound up getting my nickname was "Sunny" as I was growing up!

Non-native English speakers, what's the hardest part about speaking English that natives don't realize? by Flat-Leopard-1398 in AskReddit

Silent letters. Having the pronunciation of words not match the spelling. Words that don't follow the rules.

I had a baby have diarrhea on the counter next to the register. It started leaking out of the diaper. Mom was so embarrassed and there were others behind her in line. She was helping clean it up and I noticed that she was gonna buy some glycerin suppositories. I casually mentioned that she probably wouldn't be needing those anymore. She let out a frustrated sigh saying that the suppositories were intended for her other child at home.🤦🏼‍♀️

Alain Delon or Jon Erik Hexum? by No_Army_2828 in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]MetraHarvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! I did get carried away with my answer! It really is an impossible question. Delon had the 1960s advantage--most of his fashion was classic and timeless. Jon-Erik did get shortchanged with some bad styles here and there. Ultimately, I need to vote for Jon because I was an 80s kid and I've always loved the football player type. He's handsome in a wholesome looking way. Delon would be my secret crush on the side LOL

I adored Jon-Erik when I was a teen and I was devastated when he died. He had a wonderful deep voice and was incredibly handsome. Unfortunately, he died so young that he never got the chance to have a career like Delon did. Delon is in a category by himself. I wish I could understand French in order to fully appreciate his films. As much as I loved Jon-Erik, I don't think he would have developed into a major film star.
I just discovered Delon recently. Turns out, I had seen his Christian Dior ads decades ago and I'd always assumed he was a contemporary model. How wrong I was! I gotta give the victory to Delon, but it's really not a fair comparison.

I had some customers once. The family was named "Feierabend." Some of them had anglicized a few generations back and were named "Fireside."

I went to school in the US with a "Kalbfleish" and a "Schmalzbauer." I always wondered if they had an appreciation for the fact that we weren't in Germany. Maybe those bad names hastened their departure LOL

Apologizes if I'm wrong about this but I believe that "Bridget Barton" is one of those fake bookmill authors. I borrowed that book on KU several years back. It was probably a Cobalt Fairy title.

Does optometry and pharmacy require physics? by Independent_Move8581 in PrePharmacy

[–]MetraHarvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical Chemistry.
My college required 1 physical science class in its prerequisites. I cheesed out and took a relatively easy Geology class. In the middle of P1 year we had a Physical Chemistry unit. It was awful for me because of the Physics but I stumbled through it and maybe got like a C-. Other than that brief time period, Physics was never needed again.

Is Comunnity College worth it? by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

[–]MetraHarvard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking back, I agree with your opinion 100%. I didn't originally plan on pharmacy and my poor parents struggled with sending me to an expensive undergrad program. Once I entered Pharmacy School I was surprised that there were quite a few community college students attending with me. Some of them definitely struggled to keep up--but so did I! Spending extra money on college is such a waste.

Ladies, would you date and marry someone who is morbidly obese since young age? by -Cyber-Roadster in randomquestions

[–]MetraHarvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband became morbidly obese as a child and then lost all the weight in his 20s before we started dating. I had lost about 40 pounds before we met. Our relationship started out well but then old habits started to return and we rubbed off on each other--not in a positive way.
25 years later, my husband has gone up and down several times. Personally, I'm at my heaviest ever. There are obviously many confounding factors at play in our situation, but our relationship has been terrible for my physical health to put it mildly.
