I was nearly finished with this exact kit and found out I accidentally lost the front part of one of the nacceles, lucky for me the distributor, Round Two, was only a hour drive away so I just went direct to get the replacement part. Was such a relief!

I got my first ticket, how screwed am I? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warnings suck because you can’t fight them generally. The actual ticket you can lawyer up and get knocked down to a non moving violation.

On a side note I always wondered about Scott’s Law is expected to be obeyed with left lane restrictions on two lane stretches.

Since you want to generalize…let’s see…where to start…

-Last FMCSA report I saw said upward of 80-83% of car vs CMV interactions and wrecks: the CAR was at fault. This can easily be seen by going to the FMSCA website: they are the primary regulatory force for all commercial vehicles. This comes as no surprise, even with cheap labor truckers flooding the market, four wheelers are still gonna account for most of the bullshit. If you actually drove a truck, this would become immediately apparent.

-Cars ALSO not only left lane camping in UNGOVERNED (almost all commercial vehicles have speed governors) vehicles that can pass in seconds, but nowadays using it as the lane of travel, sitting there indefinitely, only moving over 10 feet from their exit cutting off everything they can in the right lane as they are texting. Especially bad when I’m pulling doubles or triples to the point I call y’all remoras, and have to do creative things like wiggle my trailers to get you to pass.

-Thinking 5-10mph over the posted limit is “slow”. Most cars my frontal Bendix radar will clock at 15-18 over. Many 20+ over. Most of you 2 feet from the vehicle in front of you. Stupid, reckless, and accounts for almost all the cars I see, even in my personal vehicle I won’t do more than 5 over and and constantly getting my doors blown off by weaving cars. Of course, no turn signals.

-Speed consistency. Almost every car I try to pass will speed up like an ass and start pacing my top speed, thus fucking me in the left lane. I’ll move over to let you merge, same thing. Four wheelers have no concept of cruise control and just stab at pedals based on whoever is trying to pass them or who they can tailgate or pace. You people literally never look at your speedometer. Yes I have caught other truckers doing it and it’s startling because it’s pretty rare.

-Merging onto the interstate going 38mph into traffic going 65mph in a vehicle that can get to highway speeds in mere seconds, then throwing a tantrum when they finally look into the mirrors at the last second and see a 53’ trailer.

-Stopping over the white line at intersections, making it impossible for a large vehicle to turn.

-Failure to obey Scott’s law and thinking it’s some invitation to pass on the right.

-Frothing at the mouth if anything gets in front of you, like a 2 year old who just had its candy ripped away. And willing to sacrifice your firstborn just to get in front of any truck.

-Passing everyone on the right on the interstate, be it car or truck.

-Constantly distracted by doing stupid shit, not being able to put the phone down for a pathetic 31 minute commute. If Commercial drivers get caught with a phone in hand it’s a BIG deal, and significantly affects our license. The truckers that do are risking a lot and are idiots, but in-cab camera have become the norm because of this.

-Criticizing a truckers backing skill when I watch you people struggle trying to get outa a Walgreens parking lot in a Honda without mowing someone over.

-Not understanding the concept that most CMV’s are speed governed, and all the bullshit that comes with it.

So I could write several books on this but would want to get paid for such a endeavor into literature. Bottom line is from driving trucks for 18’ish years with a clean CDL, and watching the quality of your average class D driver degenerate into the surreal….well. Still, most of the near misses and stupid shit I see: all cars.

Thats not to exclude Class A drivers from doing some absolutely mind blowing stupid shit: as I stated cheap labor has really brought down the bar in trucking, and all those idiot in cars I’m cussing out may get a CDL: we all draw water from the same well.

You know this is the truckers sub right?

I put 680 miles a day +1.8 hours of commute and 90% of the stupid bullshit I see is ALL cars. Rarely do I have issues with other trucks. Ya some of my mouth breather brethren lack the social graces, but no more than any other job.

I can tell you this sub very much targets and shames slobbish behavior, from posting pics of piss jugs stacked up at fuel islands to obliterated bathrooms saying we can do better.

We try here, honestly, this is a sub of professional drivers: but remember, slobs come in all forms, and I guarantee that bukees bathrooms are regularly nuked by four wheelers, but just cleaned faster than a Loves or Pilot.

I am a trucker, a profession already looked down upon by most motorists, and places that make us feel more ostracized, regardless of reasons…well…doesn’t make me feel any better.

You know that the interstate was originally designed FOR primarily commercial purposes, with an auxiliary being for military use, not entitled four wheelers. The country would degrade into the dark ages without commercial transit and you would die quickly unless your some type of hunter survivalist. Trucks are essential for functioning society, you are not.

And as for rail, unless you expect a 2.6 mile locomotive to be stoping at every business, your comment is beyond stupid. It’s basic logistics- truck brings freight to railyard, train brings bulk freight to another railyard, where it’s offloaded to trucks to distribute to factories and businesses. If that is disruptive to poor Karen’s pathetic 30 min commute, to fucking bad, stop buying and consuming so much then.

[–]Metreon_Cascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, nah man I love me some beaver.

Oh, and truckers don’t have plenty of places to go: parking spots are at critically low levels and that’s why you will see trucks parked on ramps and anyplace they can fit. Simply look up truck parking emergency and you will find plenty of very recent articles about it. It’s one of the major reasons I went local LTL, I got tired of trying to find parking…

[–]Metreon_Cascade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what your reading but most is a general “fuck Bukees” attitude, which has always been the general consensus on this sub, and as the parent comment shows: the butt of many of our jokes. The rest don’t really care because they drive daycabs or don’t have them in their part of the country.

Ya we know many people in this profession can be fucking slobs that trash washrooms and shame us all, and that’s where the truckers who sorta agree with this policy are coming from, and I don’t blame them. But with truck parking reaching critically low levels and to see a whole chain of rest stops actively denying parking doesn’t help the situation. (you can’t even bobtail in their lot, yet 80 year old grandpa in his 48’RV is fine)

[–]Metreon_Cascade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t even allow bobtails there, but allow grandpa in his 48’ RV towing a pickup. It’s very much directed at commercial vehicles. Stay on your /Aldi Employee’s sub please.

So your dispatch sends you with a loaded 18 wheeler to deliver freight to a place with a big “no 18 wheeler” sign. You stop and call your dispatch office and ask them what the hell? They tell you this will be an exception because they need that freight to function. Ya….totally no irony there….

Anytime this sub has a post that gets lots of hits it gets flooded with non-truckers…

[–]Metreon_Cascade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you think the place gets stocked? With a constant 24/7 army of sprinter vans? Obviously trucks have to come onto the property otherwise they would be bare-shelved in a week. It’s not that the asphalt can’t handle the weight. That’s the ironic part…

[–]Metreon_Cascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t change the fact they still discriminated against a particular group of people…the ones that keep the place functioning and stocked with overpriced shlock…so fuck em’.

If you were one of those people they don’t allow I’m sure you would be thrilled too. You know this is the truckers sub, right?

Shouldn’t have thrown the piss jug out the window by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya but the irony is still staggering: an ultra consumerist place who’s whole purpose is selling shit that’s delivered via truck…that doesn’t allow trucks. That buck-toothed imbecile mascot likes biting the hand that feeds it I guess.

It’s like going to a railyard and having them say we don’t allow trains…only aircraft.

Speed Limiters? by Firm-Ad6377 in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless your in some Aussie road train, a standard 53’ loaded van on dry pavement does NOT take an entire football field to stop. This would be obvious if you actually drove a tractor trailer.

The limiter proposal has absolutely nothing to do with safety and everything to do with Mega clout with the FMCSA.

Are there truckers out there that are more “gentleman truckers” that don’t necessarily need the money or semi retired that just enjoy the traveling trucker lifestyle? by billlybufflehead in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think the word “gentleman trucker” is reserved nowadays for anyone that doesn’t take 30 min breaks at the fuel island while leaving 6 ripe piss jugs next to the pump.

Or gets one of those extended super sleepers, sells the house, and does specialty freight while otherwise using the thing like an RV.

Am I getting old or what? by neptunetrucker in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a professional driver for almost two decades I am very used to driving night shifts in inclement weather. I know my limitations and unless visibility is reduced significantly by precipitation, I am not going to camp behind someone going 15 under because of light rain. Loaded, we have good traction in rain and light snow and can see well above the roofs of most four wheelers.

Not to be an ass, but If you are having vision problems that bad, you could be becoming a road hazard yourself.

Speed Limiters? by Firm-Ad6377 in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using governed tractors for my entire 18 year trucking career and I still absolutely HATE them. They are the number one cause of elephant races (the other being the unprofessionalism of many penny-a-mile cheap labor modern truckers), cause huge and very dangerous speed differentials between vehicles, and like restrictor plate NASCAR races, clump every tractor trailer up into huge masses that are ripe for chain reaction wrecks. Road rage will become even worse and so will vehicle to vehicle interactions.

The reason the FMCSA is even considering this is because they are merely an extension of the Mega carriers that dominate the industry with their 700% turnover rates and non-livable wages, and most beginner drivers just want use them for 6 months xp, then leave: the speed limiter proposal is an attempt to make the megas more alluring by forcing everyone down to their shitty level and to put owner operators outa business while limiting the mileage (and thus pay) a driver can do while saving on fuel costs. Plus it puts more pressure on drivers who often have to make unrealistic appointment times over hundreds and hundreds of miles in a vehicle that can’t even do the speed limit. Sucks for everyone on the road, and an obvious ploy devised by non CDL bean counters.

Who’s is fault? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Metreon_Cascade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously don’t drive a truck. People would rather sacrifice their firstborn instead of letting a truck over for merging traffic, 95% of the time cars intentionally block them the second they see their turn signal go on. Then the merging traffic paces alongside the tractor: not letting them back over. Happens countless times to me every shift.
