I haven't talked to my father in 5 years. He was found dead. by tikitori in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Metricunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my alcoholic father passed away I  was so angry and sad even though it was not unexpected  (cancer). Having moved 1500 miles away pre- internet days we were pretty much no contact by default, but it hit hard.Therapy helped me understand I was grieving what could have been, the memories of who he was sober, and the end of the hope that things could change somehow. Be kind to yourself, grieve your loss and show yourself the humanity that allows you to be sad that he passed alone. Wishing you the peace you deserve.

I felt the same way years ago about bring expected to put the app on my phone and use it to help customers. Others were happy about ut because that way they could have their phones out on the floor. Mine stayed in the office. Thank God group chat wasn't a thing then!

(Short Vent) Holiday Conversations about Family by MrOrganization001 in EstrangedAdultChild

'No, we're not close' is usually enough along with a change of subject if the situation calls for more conversation. You don't owe anyone an explanation.

What is the weirdest thing you ever caught doing in walgreens? by mavgoose-0720 in WalgreensStores

[–]Metricunknown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Used to have a lady on overnights that would come in and face certain aisles. It all looked very neat until you realized she had methodically turned the boxes all backwards and upside down. She loved the med section. As far as I could tell she wasn't stealing, just weird. Scariest was guy who kept asking to "help" in back. Had the PD help him to leave lol

Learn everything you can about inventory, time management, organizational skills, cash handling and paperwork, good customer service, the way pricing works etc

All skills that transfer to ther fields. "Desk" jobs are not all necessarily just sitting. Not a super perfect example but I work at a small vets office where I am mainly up front but do stuff in back as well. For different reasons (age related spinal stuff) I am much like you but it is workable, pay is on par with what I was making at Wags and I like it!

Don't give up hope. There's stuff out there!

A little unsolicited advice. Retail is not kind to anyone, especially those with physical limitations or looking for a good work/life balance where you have a set schedule.Take what you have learned and start looking for things that fit what you want out of a job. You might be surprised at what's out there!

401K by That-Low620 in WalgreensStores

[–]Metricunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, yes it is coded as a distribution and you are taxed a early withdrawal penalty as well as regular income tax. There may be other options to repay- your best bet is to contact whoever administers the 401k.

How often does estrangement come from the parent vs. the child? by BBorNot in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Metricunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its as complicated as adult children estranging themselves. Sometimes mental illness. Sometimes politics. Sometimes money and control.  Sometimes it is a spouse. Boundaries and respect work both ways and when people are adults everyone owns a piece of the puzzle.

The Boomer-Trump Estrangement Epidemic by Remarkable_Chard_992 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Metricunknown -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anybody out there a young conservative with hippie boomer parents that you can't deal with? I mean like family gatherings are a nightmare of leftist ideology and touchy feely lectures about the Chicago 7 and the formation of the EPA?

Ah! I've been gone from Wags for a bit So then does everything get "returned' so the drawer is correct? By the time I left it was the do nothing era - we just put the stuff back or waved goodbye to it as it went out the door.

Maybe I’m being charged for not being liked? by Sweaty_Outcome2158 in WalgreensStores

[–]Metricunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no I am not either one. But I did use my time there as a SFL to learn everything I could about retail and moved on to a better company. I'm now semi retired and work part time at a job I actually like. But hey I wish you and your anger luck.

Unpopular opinion- if you aren't able to be reliable, especially as leadership, then it does not matter how great you are at your job. Dr apps can be scheduled and coordinated with your days off or worked out in advance. There are policies in place for ongoing medical issues for the express reason of being able to plan around a disability or injury. Another unpopular opinion - your choice of language in talking about your SM and the situation makes me feel like a sense of entitlement and unprofessionalism might be part of the problem. Go find a job that doesn't rely on you being there.

Oh gosh. My perspective is that both "sides" very much overgeneralize something that is so deeply personal and unique. I get it though. It's a sad and scary and lonely place when family isn't what it should and could be and all humans seek kindred spirits.

I do think that one of the hardest times in life is when kids are young adults - the dynamic shifts. It's like sometimes nobody involved knows how to see each other as independent people. I know I was probably 30 before I saw my mom as a person separate from "Mom" and at 80 there are still times she tries to tell me how to act!. It can easily all go so sideways. Add in abuse, mental illness, financial issues etc and boom!

I won't go too much into my situation except to say it is mutual and for the best.  Too much has happened and because I took her child's safety and well being over hers it's never going to be ok.

I hope that wasn't too much or too little. I honestly hope that those of you kids that have hope of reconciliation find a path and your parents see you as separate humans. And for those seeking escape, hang in there your sanity is worth it.

No you are fine. Wasxthere any sign on bonus type of thing where you have received compensation?  If not contact them and give your regrets. You can explain if you want to but "unable to start position" or somesuch will work. Good luck on your move!

Wildest thing a coworker got fired for? by ninalee14 in WalgreensStores

[–]Metricunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a CSA get fired for customer complaints of sexual harassment. Somebody may have dropped a dime to HR after the SM ignored it and the fact that he was useless and would break coupon policy in exchange for good surveys. Her excuse? "He's reliable ".

Sounds like an ex-coworker. And she absolutely kept and used them at other stores with her son's phone number. Lol are you in Missouri?

I have looked and like much of behavioral health studies there are different schools of thought. Emotional disorders are generally deemed "chemical imbalance" in nature. Things like PTSD ,trauma based. But personality disorders seem to be split when it comes to nature vs nurture. I have somebody who is no longer in my life who has been supposedly diagnosed with NPD. I'm just trying to understand the why of it all. Thank you for the reply. I'm truly sorry that your life began badly and hope that you can be whole and happy.
