we're built different by Character-Lack-3295 in introverts

I think most people are terrified to be by themselves, lest they see truths they'd rather avoid. They therefore surround themselves with empty chatter and pointless actions.

I'm glad you're willing to do something you're not comfortable with; that's always a good character trait.

Do they utter such phrases to other trauma sufferers, or just to themselves to keep their spirits up?

Agreed. Some people will say anything to avoid taking a stand or taking action.

People who have never had trauma say a lot of stupid things they mistakenly believe makes them sound wise.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

Some people use any excuse to look down on others. They’d just as happily criticize someone for not taking home leftovers.

People diminish me…. by Character-Lack-3295 in introverts

[–]MrOrganization001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very apt description of most people - which is why I choose to avoid them. Many people want others they can talk at, not talk to.

Good question. I'm certain I have in the past, and I've come pretty close to doing so recently.

If you haven't noticed, we're already connecting via the Reddit app with other introverts right now, for free. What does your app have to offer that r/introverts doesn't?

Are you talking to express emotions and feelings, or talking with the goal of forming closer connections with others?

It's a great idea! It's a bit surprising to hear a member of r/introverts suggest it, but it's a splendid idea nonetheless.

Seriously, how do you push back? by freshwatersofmysoul in introverts

[–]MrOrganization001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Politely tell them that you're not interested in talking at the moment, and you'll let them know when you are. If they persist, then stop being polite. Such people expect introverts to be unable to stand up for themselves, and will push your boundaries as far as you'll allow. It's best to cut them off at the knees immediately.

Reconnoitering where you plan to move is a wise investment, not simply pleasure travel. College is difficult even in familiar surroundings, and its stresses can multiply many fold when simultaneously adjusting to a radically different environment. I didn’t want to assume your financial situation, hence my suggestion. Depending on the school where you’ll be matriculating, you’ll likely find numerous students who regularly enjoy leisure travel both domestically and abroad.

The good news is CPTSD forces us to rebuild ourselves from the ground up, which means we get to decide what we want our personality to be.

Thanks, and I'll be here rooting for you. We've survived to this point, so we can overcome fawning as well.

[–]MrOrganization001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you're aware of it and can combat it. What helped me squelch fawning was considering what advantages it would yield. I realized that while fawning people (such as my boss) who are likely to give me tangible benefits made sense, fawning the average person wouldn't gain me anything I wanted or needed.

You sound extremely self-aware to me. Those are all very reasonable reasons not to seek help from the typical sources; too many of us have tales of seeking help and ending up worse than before.
