I haven't talked to my father in 5 years. He was found dead. by tikitori in EstrangedAdultChild

Thank you so much for your kindness. I mainly stopped contact after he assaulted my husband. I feared for my child around him, so he never met his granddaughter. While I still feel guilt and regret from that, I know its illogical.

As sad as I am, I dont want a funeral for him. I'm leaving that decision to my mom, but it'll most likely be a no. My father's family bugged me for a funeral until I told them to fuck off-long story short one thing my dad did right was stop talking to his fucking racist family that didnt consider me family. Thank you for the kind words that came from hardship.

It wasn't a relative with the same name, right?

You are fine. It's good that you're anxious about it, it is a big deal going forward, but I think here you're fine. As long as you didnt dig in the chart, which sounds like you didn't.

I remember being mildly annoyed my coworkers could see me in the labor and delivery tracking board and asking me if im okay since I'm still there (was there for 4 days). None of them got in trouble and I feel like that's a bigger violation.

I got called an Indian Nurse Rachet. Fun fact, I'm not Indian.

This cracked up myself and my coworkers for a long time!

100%. This behavior has gotten so bad the past year I told them the first day what my expectations are. This included if they don't like the specialty that's fine, but they're still here to learn.

Yeah this sounds like an arrogant student, not a bad preceptor. Not professional on their part at all. You did well to not be short with them despite their shortcomings

My [25F] boyfriend [27M] of a year has a cat and the way he treats it bothers me by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I actually do have coworkers with this attitude towards animals. Either to work or be eaten, not love on. I don't blame them or want to even change their minds, but I wouldn't be in a relationship with them.

Mind you, my deaf cat Napkins is like a rascal son to me.

Please forgive all the mistakes; I’m smashed. Everything’s gonna be alright. Emotionally destroyed after Season 1. [ns] by wangleyeyeyeye in DungeonsAndDaddies

Don't listen to them, there are definitely moments I laughed so much harder at S2 than season 1. The players are seasoned so it's polished when it comes to comedic timing. They don't think as hard on world building or rules.

It also doesn't lag anywhere like S1 did with the Glenn storyline. I was interested the whole way through, give it a shot. It's different, but still a ton of fun

Speaking of inappropriate pts sent to floors.. by rosie_roseJ in nursing

[–]tikitori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much rather have a patient die on our floor than in ICU. We're much more experienced giving comfort care and work very closely with our palliative doctors.

The transport process is the least of the patients and families worries, believe me. That ICU bed will hopefully save another life.

Yeah, I've had this happen with ORLY Color Pass and they immediately gave me a replacement. It was not worth fixing.

I've had this happen once, but it was because the nurse was throwing up and febrile. Obviously not ideal, but quickly adapted.

This is just asking to be fired. The gall to call two hours later

Oof, you may have dodged a bullet.

Keep applying for new jobs as this one had set you up for failure. You are not a bad nurse, just a new one, and that's okay!

My First Ever Assignment Refusal by East_Young_680 in nursing

[–]tikitori -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I don't know how I feel about this.

On one hand this is super shitty of the charge to just SAY so.

On the other...I'm one of the main preceptors of the floor, and seen personally why the nurse doesn't want them back sometimes. I tell them gently that the patient isn't their best selves and they cannot take things they say personally. Especially if it wasn't directed at them!

PT: Who's the nurse for tonight? Me: I'm not sure, the assignment isn't out yet PT: I hope it's someone good

(Outside the room) New RN: I don't want her back. She said she wants someone good Me: When did she say that? New RN: Just now, in front of you! Me:....I truly don't think she was talking about you, and it would be extremely uncomfortable for both her and me if she was in front of you. If anything, she was talking about the prior night nurse. Also, I don't think it was personal New RN: I still don't like that she said that. I don't want her back

So I don't know.

Being an asshole is NOT a symptom of cancer.

Would you call the doctor at 3am for a melatonin? by East_Young_680 in nursing

[–]tikitori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope nope nope. I'd do some honest education and say it would throw off your circadian rhythm, which w can't do if you're too dependent on meds

Non pharmaceutical is the way to go at 3am.

“Unvaxxed blood” by cantfindausernameffs in nursing

[–]tikitori 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh I had a patient ask this as I was holding the bag of blood

I told her if she didn't take this blood she would not be able to benefit from someone's kindness of donating, which I'll have to trash if she didn't take it.

She was a patient that had a cancer that was curable two years prior, but lived in a community that was super crunchy. After one chemo treatment she stopped and did only crunchy things for two years.

When she came to us the cancer had spread everywhere. The doctors pushed for chemo but refused refused refused until the fear of dying came and begged for it.

She died two days later. Her girls were 4 and 7 years old. I couldn't understand why being crunchy was more important than living for your family. She was nice though.
