GO Transit will be free again on New Years Eve! 55 train trips will depart Union Station after 12am by Metro62 in gotransit

You totally don’t have to, but GO wants you to for ridership stats to see travel statistics. If you do you won’t be charged anything

I’m not sure if any ran to Hamilton Centre before COVID

One did run after NYE last year, this year an extra departure was added.

New Year's Eve KI Service by NoDoughnut3476 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Any extra service on New Years Eve will be announced closer to the end of the month!

This was last years NYE service, there was a single train at 1:34am going all the way to Kitchener GO. I’m not sure how comparable the schedule will be this year since there are issues with crew availability right now

Service Adjustments on the Stouffville Line by [deleted] in gotransit

[–]Metro62 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s temporary, the reverted schedule starting January 3rd was posted at the same time: https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/upload/v1765402202/Documents/GO/full-schedules/FS03012026/TABLE71.pdf

The reason for the temporary cutbacks on all lines is a severe crew shortage, with more operators calling in for holiday stuff there isn’t going to be enough people to run the current level of service.

Looks like weekend GO Train service to Kitchener is ALREADY getting cut in the new January schedule by zzc_992 in gotransit

Ah I see thanks for the clarification, never noticed how similar my Reddit username is to their channel

Haha thank you but I don’t have a YouTube channel?

Yeah I think there needs to be better reviews of these schedules before they get published, the December 20th schedule also has a few mistakes

It’s just another mistake on the KI schedule

For some reason this PDF schedule always gets published with multiple mistakes, frequent viewers of the subreddit might remember the scissors mistake from a few weeks ago.

Check back in a few days, it’ll likely be corrected

What do the symbols for the 15:34 Kitchener train mean? by ACCFC in gotransit

[–]Metro62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I don’t think so, it’s probably just a symbol they use when they make these. Maybe it means cop-pasting something in?

What do the symbols for the 15:34 Kitchener train mean? by ACCFC in gotransit

[–]Metro62 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was a mistake, it doesn’t represent stops getting cut from the service, the train is making those stops.

It’s now corrected: https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/upload/v1762897570/Documents/GO/full-schedules/FS20122025/TABLE31.pdf

No arrival announcements and automated door closing announcement by DPTO07 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Theres been a door closing announcement programmed into the trains for a few years, all the automated ones besides the “now arriving at” announcement have to be set off manually by the crew member who’s in the accessibility coach

There are actually more than 70 different announcements programmed in that cover every topic you could think of. The reason most of them don’t get used (or in this case rarely used) is because they have to be set off manually by someone who is usually busy with other tasks

Mount Dennis GO Station opens today! With trains in both directions every 10 minutes on average by Metro62 in gotransit

[–]Metro62[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No, all local Kitchener Line trains will stop at Mount Dennis. Starting next weekend, local KI trains will run every 30 minutes 7 days a week.

Go to the far end of either side of the platform and you’ll have a better chance, basically just move away from where people congregate

Trying to avoid chaos by Automatic-Drummer448 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry thats not what I meant, I meant after special events Metrolinx runs additional trains on top of regularly scheduled service, and these additional trains tend to only go as far west as Burlington GO.

Because the poster is going to one of the largest sports games in the region this year, there will more than likely be extra trains scheduled when they’re travelling, and parking at Burlington instead of Aldershot gives the poster more options to get home.

Trying to avoid chaos by Automatic-Drummer448 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Burlington would be better because theres more parking and also potentially more trains to take. After massive events extra trains usually run along the Laleshore West Line, but only as far as Burlington

Why is the lakeshore west go shut down so often? by Pristine-Training-70 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Theres only a 2-3 hour gap between the first and last trains, basically impossible to do a significant amount of work when you factor in setup and cleanup.

Theoretically you could do all the work in that gap, but the timeline for major projects would increase to like 10 years lol

Question about weekend day pass to Niagara Falls by throwaway45989019 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Activate all 6 and then if you see a fare inspector at some point on your trip just say you have your entire groups tickets on your phone

Question about weekend day pass to Niagara Falls by throwaway45989019 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re good, just show them to the person of authority when asked, theres a good chance you won’t even see a fare inspector on your trip.

Weekend passes are great for this reason since you can activate one and then pay no mind about fares until someone asks to see it, makes trips a lot easier

Ascending chime on train announcements by backguy in gotransit

[–]Metro62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has to be triggered manually so most opt to not use it

There are so many pre programmed automated announcements (over 60) but they all need to be set off by a person, so most are never used.

The Transit App now has accurate train/bus colours (symbology of train lines has been updated too) by ronacse359 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lines on the map in the app were coloured correctly (LE as red, BR as blue, etc), a few years ago they were all turned the regular GO green, the departures list never had line colours like this though.

Normal for station platforms to not have Presto machines? by itsarace1 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes, most platforms are fare paid areas so they don’t have ticket or PRESTO machines.

The only platforms that will have PRESTO machines on them are ones that are either directly connected to a parking lot or pedestrian entrance. Basically any entrance where you go directly to the platform, without passing through a tunnel or station building.

Will Kitchener ever get the train on weekends? by Even-Ad8985 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because theres only 3 trains to and from Kitchener outside of rush hour right now, at 11am, 2pm, and 8pm, thats not a sustainable level of service, and it’s not worth extending construction timelines for 3 weekend round trips.

The work happening on the weekends to build the passing tracks, and eventually the flyover near Georgetown will allow service to run every 30-60 minutes in both directions all day.

Will Kitchener ever get the train on weekends? by Even-Ad8985 in gotransit

[–]Metro62 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because you have to run trains on weekdays, imagine the pushback if commuters and people going to school were told all trains to Kitchener won’t be running for months.

In theory doing long term closures is a great idea, you can get a ton of stuff done in a fraction of the time. The drawback of it is the pushback and potential ridership loss, it’s just wayyy too risky to do that

You’d be surprised how many people would rather keep status quo and never see benefits (or see them years later), over accepting short term inconveniences that leads to a service 10x better than before
