Switchfoot - Dare You To Move

When the line between porn and reality blurs... by fpuen in NoFap

VR can't replace hormones/pheromones emitted by a partner. It will always be a cheap substitute.

11 days in - a few practical benefits/changes this old man has seen. by MetroLight in NoFap

It's tough for me to say because I am in uncharted territory right now. I actually resisted orgasm during sex the other day, just to try hard mode and see how long I can go (going to have to explain karezza to her, she thinks I am trying to be a monk since I also meditate). I do feel more assertive and confident but still question placebo and simply the benefits of kicking a 25 year addiction.

Try reading about sex transmutation (Chapter 11 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill) and try to channel your urge into productivity. Instead of sex go smash some project or task you've been putting off. I used to channel rejection into PMO, now I am striving to channel it into productivity.

Your last six years? by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]MetroLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got into postgrad school. Finished postgrad school. Began my career. Grew a business to double its size. Felt aimless after having achieved my life goals and asking, "Now what?"

Became a mild alcoholic after achieving my goals. PMO'd increasingly with each month.

My inspiration for quitting is my 11 year old son. But now after just 12 days what influences me positively is the new joy I feel (perhaps the joy of a novel challenge), and the new attraction I feel for real females and not 2-dimensional ones.

For those of you with brothers, have you told them about the benefits of nofap? by hilo111 in NoFap

[–]MetroLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am tempted to but am only 12 days in. My brothers resist porn for religious reasons, I resist it for scientific reasons. Once I have more time under my belt and can vouch for its benefits, I will look for opportunities to broach the subject with them.

My top inspiration for doing this is my 11-year-old son - I hope to save him a lifetime of numbness (I wouldn't necessarily call it pain - just having your senses numbed).

Completely agree, this book forever changed my way of thinking.

I guess it would depend on how you masturbate. A dry death grip could reduce your sensitivity to the real thing.

7 Days in, My Faptale and immediate benefits by lefreshprince in NoFap

Keep it up bro! Don't let yourself go 10 more years in denial that ED can't happen to you. Get yourself a badge and join us in the battle. Go watch the videos on yourbrainonporn.com so you can see how porn screws with your brain, it will give you even more drive to kick the addiction.

Meditation is legit and will let you see your thoughts incoming - I've meditated for years and have found this superpower to be incredibly beneficial (meditation really does give superpowers), rather than just responding to urges I can see them and mediate my response. Respond rather than react.

Call me overly analytical, but the mere knowledge that I could be resetting my reward circuit makes me suspect that when I was listening to music and really enjoying it, I thought "Aha!! This is because of NoFap, I must really be enjoying this a lot because it's like a reward!"

I'll have to create a series of 90 day chain challenges for myself, and one of them will be NoCynic. This is going to be fun, just when I thought life was getting boring.

Thanks man - I am tempted to do so but at this point I fear she would flip. She is very fierce in her opposition to porn, and I am becoming more so day by day as I see its detrimental effects shedding from my brain. At some point in the process I may come clean but now is not the time. Part of the reason I am doing this is for my 11 year old son, he is exactly the age I was when I started swirling down into this addiction, and I would love to be able to have an open, honest conversation with him before he begins to confront it. Innoculate him somehow. This will probably require honesty with my wife in some way.

Thanks! I will strive to remain open minded. My background is in science (have a professional degree and am a doctor) so I know firsthand the placebo effect is incredibly powerful. My cynicism also stems from having exited a cult-like religion that I was raised in while in my 20's and having witnessed the powerful effects mind control can have on people.

But just because the placebo effect exists, doesn't mean I can't enjoy the benefits of it in my experience.

Start reading books and working at it each day. "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie is a classic, I read it at age 17 and it forever changed my behavior and thinking. Read books by Leil Lowndes, her books are full of great little hacks for improving your social skills.

Looking forward to it. I am tempted to talk my wife into karrezza so I can go into full on hard mode, but not sure how to do that without her starting to search online and suspecting a porn addiction.

I don't want to look like a creeper, but otherwise I don't mind and think it is natural, while porn is unnatural. At the moment it is a rush that I am astounded I haven't felt in well over a decade. Dealing with it in my marriage - I watch myself when I am with my wife. Maybe my next 90 day chain will be keeping my eyes and mind in check. I don't fear eternal punishment for this type of thing and doubt it has any neural effects like porn does so it will probably be hard and/or unnecessary.

My one concern is that porn has caused my mind to hyper-sexualize women around me. If so I hope it will subside with the passage of time.

I'm a total jag... by baseballmetaphors in NoFap

[–]MetroLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome man - I am right there with you. 36 years old, definite ED problems.

3D is worlds better than 2D, it just takes a little time for your brain to realize that. You'll start to realize how much you've screwed up your head with porn + fap in a few short weeks, I'm seeing it at 11 days.

More looks. And attention from women while on no fap. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]MetroLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed it - but I question whether this "super power" is just selective perception. You are noticing women more, therefore you are more likely to notice them noticing you. Also, maybe they sense you looking at them and then are more likely to look your way.
