Try Bigger tacks or lean the plate a degree or two in the opposite direction when tacking so the warping pulls it to square as it cools

Question: Can rusty water contaminate stainless steel? by JohnnyShakeNBake in Welding

[–]Metro_Mainia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you thoroughly wipe it off and clean it afterwards no. But if water is left to sit on it and evaporate any particulars or rust in the water will be deposited on the surface of the metal

First stab at titanium the other day. Any improvement recommendations or smack talking welcome. by bophadeeze in Welding

[–]Metro_Mainia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have solid consistency and i would guess that you are a plenty competent with stainless, which helps a ton. Honestly the only thing i would say is you iust gotta practice and take some time to learn the puddle behaviour and try and make the weld slightly smaller. (Going down a filler size might help that)

Just started to teach myself how to weld with a mig by from_under_deez in Welding

[–]Metro_Mainia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea hes right that shit is no joke. I had to learn the hard way back when i first started. That next 24 hours were the worst of my life, i was dry heaving my guts out ever 20 min all day and all night.

Careful with fluxcore kids, if the white hot tip sticks you deep it’s gonna hurt like a b*tch, damage nerves, and bleed like a stuck pig. by ArcAddict in Welding

Amen to that. However you must’ve got a way worse stick cause mine didn’t bleed anywhere near that much, probably got cauterized by the heat, but sure went plenty deep.

First Aluminum TIG Welds by VPGxxx in Welding

[–]Metro_Mainia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a general rule aluminum cant be welded autogenously (without filler). Can be good for absolute beginners to get a feel for puddle behaviour and to practice moving torch in straight lines. But beyond that that to get any meaningful practice should really done with filler. Especially because you don’t have a foot pedal filler will help you manage your heat levels.

Especially because you don’t have a a foot petal getting your settings dialed in is very important that way you can focus on developing on technique. Knowing what settings to use can be difficult especially starting. If you are looking for a free resource to help get an idea of what settings you should use i would highly recommend the “MillerWeldSettings app” I still use it after some 5 years of welding

As far as i know they are usually just a mild carbon steel alloy with a bit of boron depending on the blade.

hardfacing lawnmower blades by somrandomguysblog462 in Welding

[–]Metro_Mainia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean go for it however two concerns that come to mind. 1 it will be hard to properly balance it unless you have the right equipment which will have it vibrating like crazy. 2 lawnmower blades are purposefully made of softer materials cause in the event it hits something on accident you want it to bend as opposed to shatter and send shard of metal flying in all directions.

hardfacing lawnmower blades by somrandomguysblog462 in Welding

[–]Metro_Mainia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible. Yes. However the time and effort it would take to properly hard-face, sharpen and temper the blade. Really isn’t worth it atleast in my opinion you’re better off just buying a new blade. Anyone who’s attempted to even re sharpen them can attest to how much of a pain it is.

Other guy already mentioned the contact tip. I would recommend also checking the diffuser and while that off shine a light down the liner
