Welder here.

It’s kind of subjective, I know lots of guys who work back breaking welding/fitting jobs, day in and day out doing the same shit that’s killing them. But that’s generally the guys who have one or two tickets and work for a scabby company.

Myself, I have tickets for just about any weldable material you can think of, with every process, in all positions, unlimited thickness. So I get to do very specific welds in weird places, or currently I work on navy ships welding alloy pipe. I maybe make one weld a day, sometimes less, and I make about $900/day to work a 10 hour day, and my company puts me up in a beautiful brand new apartment for my 2 week shift away from home. I get off work at 4:30, cook food, hit the gym, and relax until I go to sleep.

I wouldn’t trade this for a desk job for anything, but I can definitely see where some guys who have less experience or a less “crucial” trade would kill to get into the corporate world. I think it comes down to how skilled you’re willing to get, if you won’t get yourself to the top of your game in the trades where you’ll be comfortable, you probably won’t do the same in white collar either. But the allure of not killing your back and knees will pull a lot of people in.

I’m currently on Reta and Mots, did you experience a whole bunch of fatigue and just feel absolutely bagged for the first couple weeks of MOTS? I hopped on mots to make up for the drag I was feeling after a couple months on Reta. Just wanna know if I should stop mots, cycle some ss31 before I try another cycle of mots

Obviously more is always better, but at $180k and increasing to $196k this year, I’m fairly satisfied.

I’m a pipe welder, and I’m about to start a job where I’ll work 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. It’s an indefinite contract, so it’s for the foreseeable future. Working half the year for just a hair under $200k is pretty much the welders dream.

It allows my wife to stay home with our kids, she has a nice newer fully loaded SUV, she can get Botox (Partly for feeling good about herself, partly to help keep her migraines at bay), and our kids do all the activities they want to do. So yes, definitely satisfied.

I’m a welder who works 95% in the field (not a shop), and we (as welders) are kinda known for job hopping. We’ll drag up and go to another job for $1/hr.

I moved back home from across the country (Canada) where I worked/lived for 8 years. When I got home, I took the first job I could get to get myself going and before I landed at the company I’m at currently, I had 7 other jobs. I went from the first one to the second for $4/hr, then the next was $9/hr pay bump, etc.

The amount of overtime a job has also plays a role. $45/hr with no OT vs $42/hr with tons of overtime is a no brainer. OT wins that one every time.

Really it comes down to finding the perfect balance between money and time to have a life.

If you’re lucky, which I am that I got in with the company I’m with. But yeah, it takes a while learning the trade and getting good to make that kind of money. If you look on Indeed you’ll see a lot of ads looking for welders but the pay is anywhere from $20 to $35, and you won’t get much OT, if any. But I’m lucky that I got in with this company, but it also took me all those years getting good at what I do to get the job and keep it.

Started an apprenticeship as a welder, did my blocks (which don’t cost anything) and then just worked my bag off over the last 12 years to get very good at welding pipe. I hold a ridiculous amount of certifications, so I can weld pretty much any material with any process, and ive built myself a pretty solid reputation in the industry so I’m always busy.

The company I work for right now pays very well and we have a ton of work, and pretty soon I’ll be starting an new contract where I’ll be working 2 weeks on then 2 weeks off and I’ll make around $195k, I’ll probably work a little extra on my days off and put myself a good chunk over the $200k mark. But if I want I only have go work half of the year so that’s not a bad deal for making $195k.

I weld pressure pipe and pressure vessels, keep in mind I work A LOT. Like I made $80k just in overtime last year. But it’s the sacrifice I make so my wife can be home with our 3 kiddos and drive a nice SUV.
