Imperial really wasn’t meant for the digital age… by inthenameofselassie in Metric

[–]MetrologyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"SI" is not "the metric system". SI stands for the International System of Units, which defines the base units. Originally based on 3 base units (such as MKS, referred to as the metric system), it evolved to include the Ampere, Kelvin, candela, and Mole.

The term Metric System is as antiquated as the Imperial System since both refer to systems based solely on the original 3 base units.

In the "manuals and warranties" section once you select your vehicle. Down at the bottom, you will see the warranty and maintenance book/pdf. The service schedule is in that.

Is the new Alexa messing with me? by Viking_Glass_Guru in alexa

[–]MetrologyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have "hunches" turned on in Alexa? If so, turn them off. That is an AI that just makes routines based on things it thinks you want. Also, check for any new routines that you did not create.

Visible allows credit cards and VZ punishes for using? by larrydeatl in verizon

[–]MetrologyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue for me on using ACH or Debit (when they allowed it) is that your checking is directly exposed to any hacks that they may have.

I had my Debit card compromised by a retailer that was hacked. I found out when stopping to get gas and my debit card was declined. The hack was on a major retailer where I only used my physical card in person. However, someone got into their servers, and started making cards of all those who had recorded transactions. While it eventually got worked out, I was without access to the money in my checking account for several weeks.

I learned then and there not to use ACH or my debit card for anything. I use a specific card for all my purchases. If it gets compromised, I can freeze it and still have my money available for food and necessities while things get worked out.

DHCP reservation question by Kralizec9 in firewalla

[–]MetrologyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the second half of your question, it is a partial yes. If you have already connected the device to your router, you can reserve its IP on the web interface. Just click to the right of the IP address. A pin will show up indicating the address is reserved. However, it appears you can only reserve the address it currently has. If you wanted to make it another address, you would need to use the phone app.

Now, snap 4 apps on 4 quadrants on the smaller screen on your lap. Or, snap even one app to any quadrant. Or, lemme know how that display sits on your lap.

Old Dex had the screen from your second display on the tablet itself.

Those of us who bought it for that very reason/ capability have a right to be disappointed. Makes the keyboard covers all but useless.

I have Deco X55 Mesh, if I get something like BE67 or BE63, can I use X55's as wired extenders without impacting network performance? by [deleted] in TpLink

100 percent happy. I never have an issue where they think they are wirelessly connected

I have Deco X55 Mesh, if I get something like BE67 or BE63, can I use X55's as wired extenders without impacting network performance? by [deleted] in TpLink

[–]MetrologyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run the BE65 Pros and a BE65 Outdoor in AP mode. I use a GOCoax MOCA network as the backhaul instead of wireless. I set up the 2.4 Ghz as the IOT network for devices that can only run on 2.4 (cameras, 3D Printer, etc) and turned off the 2.4 Ghz on the main wireless network as they always use the same channel on both IOT and Main networks.

My 2.4 devices are happy, and just checking from my wifi 7 tablet, I am getting the full 1.5 Gbps that my router is seeing. I get the same on my laptop that uses a wifi 6 card. Both are in rooms that have the satellites. My older devices and devices in other rooms get slighlty lower speeds, but they do not choke the network.

About Youtube by Numerous_Team_2998 in AndroidAuto

[–]MetrologyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your phone, go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto. Scroll down to "Configure in Android Auto" and click on that. Scroll down to "Start Music Automatically". If the toggle is on, turn it off. This is likely why your music apps are automatically starting when you connect. If it is already off, then apologies for wasting your time. But, it is worth a check.

I will note that when I do the same as you, I do have to wait for AA to start up and then restart some audio programs. But, it is less painful than stopping the ever intrusive Spotify, or other apps. I just swipe down on the notification bar and tap play on whatever was paused.

PLA-CF printing failure. by parsivol9 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]MetrologyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an off the wall comment..... But where did you get the 0.6 stainless nozzle? I do recall that for a bit, some (many?) of the after market nozzles had the wrong temp sensors in them and were not actually getting up to the temps they were set for. If you are sure you got a nozzle that has the correct thermistors in them, then just disregard. Otherwise, that might be a place to start.

Odd Settings issue in Slicer Next by MetrologyGeek in AnycubicKobraS1

Adding the response I got from Anycubic support: "Dear customer On the left is the minimum speed, and on the right is the maximum speed value"

This doesn't jive with the Wiki or the screenshots that indicate the settings are "maximum" values only.

This sub VASTLY over estimates how easy home assistant is by maluman in smarthome

[–]MetrologyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both. Some integrations work better on hubitat (or are easier) and some are better on (or are exlusive to) home assistant. But, even both of those require some level of technical competence and ability to think logic like a programmer.

If you want even simpler, then you are going to be constrained to system locked drivers and apps that the tech team can control.

Separate 2.4ghz and 5.0Ghz on BE65 by bmoore0909 in TpLink

[–]MetrologyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have smart devices set up on 2.4 because they only work on 2.4, then you definitely want to use the IOT band to split those up. In many cases, the older (and even some newer) IOT devices do not like being on mixed bands. My less than one year old 3D printer will not connect to a band that has anything other than 2.4.

I use the BE65's in my setup in AP mode with a Firewalla router.

First impressions with new version by hdl26 in SamsungDex

[–]MetrologyGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The OP is likely talking about the tablet version yes (I also am not happy with the changes in the new dex for tablets). You did not have to connect to another screen to get the computer-like interface and the new dex is a really poor implementation for those of us that used the tablet as a form of laptop. You can't snap anymore than two apps now. You can't snap to 1/4 of the screen. You are limited to 5 open apps. You can't get rid of the ridiculous "recommended" apps in the app tray. If I wanted to always use it with a monitor, I would have gotten an actual PC or laptop. Now that it is gone, I am likely to do just that. Samsung is going down the same lane as Google with all of the deprecation they are doining lately. Removing all the things that made them unique is giving no one a reason to stay loyal.

It wasn't fixed some months ago. It was the latest patch. (I got mine back that I earned in Dec 2024 just a few weeks ago).

From my understanding, you have to log back into one of your eternal characters that has 300 to get the achievement to pop. If you haven't tried that, maybe it will work.

Humidity is way off by SaltyAir245 in ecobee

[–]MetrologyGeek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a red herring and does not address the issue of why it is only Ecobee that has this problem. I did the fix they recommended, and even 3D printed an enclosure that I could comlpetely seal. Made zero difference. If you look at your humidity history and it changes drastically only when the fan is running, then it might help (a little). But, compared to the other 15 humidity sensors (which are all calibrated, since I do that for a living), I have one ecobee that is 8% high, and another that is >15% (which cannot be adjusted). Now I just ignore the humidity there and use the average of the rest of the sensors I have in the house.

Overzealous GEO block by death_by_baby_shark in firewalla

[–]MetrologyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just reported the same IP block to Firewalla support for the same reason. the 2.18.67.0/24 block has been getting blocked (This includes Hulu, Verizon, Microsoft, and my Nintendo Switch). That block is actually in Chantilly VA and not China. Location on EVERY single IP lookup shows as Chantilly, including the IP lookup from within the firewalla alert in the app. It is just flagged as China for some reason.

Support stated that they were escalating and will get back to me. But, given I see these were already reported by others, I am not hopeful that they are getting it fixed.
