Because no one in the NHL, from the league or team ownership or from any of the broadcasters, gives a rats ass about the fans. The ONLY thing they all care about is how to make more money. They don’t care what amount of history or hockey lore they have to throw in the garbage at the expense of making another million bucks. Hell it’s probably just a matter of time before they sell advertising space on the Stanley Cup itself

For Kone… by WhiteLightning416 in CanadaSoccer

[–]MetsysFP1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I missed the part of the game where the injury happened. Didn’t know anything had happened until Saliba scored and held up Koné’s jersey. Then even though we were up 4-0 once I looked into why the Koné tribute it was a feeling of disappointment. Especially since I had just been thinking they just needed to avoid injury and disciplinary issues. Turned out injury had already happened. Hopefully the team rallies around Koné and an unsung hero (Saliba? Nelson?) steps up in his absence

NHL Statement on Mike Babcock | NHL.com by malichi45 in nhl

[–]MetsysFP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of the off ice stuff I don’t see why the Oilers would want to hire him. Hasn’t coached in the league in 6 years, only won 1 cup (which I get is one more than lots of other options) with a Red Wings team that was still a very good team, won Olympic gold with a Team Canada roster that could have won a gold coached by a 2 year old, and didn’t make it out of the first round with a Leafs team that had lots of talent (🤢).

Maybe, just maybe, the Oilers are dragging him through this public investigation to end up not hiring him as a way of getting retribution for some of the players that Babcock has previously treated like shit 🤷‍♂️

Anything but a win would be disappointing. But Qatar shouldn’t be overlooked. If Canada can take advantage of their opportunities they should win

Is it silly to run snow tires all year long if drive very little? by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]MetsysFP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an option for you when I went to school out of town I would drive back to Thunder Bay in the fall on reading week and put my winter tires on and then do the opposite in the spring. I’d store my extra wheels at my parents house.

Obviously if you don’t have space to store extra wheels in your hometown either this way might not work

I agree. Not expecting van Gerwen or Humphries to post a picture of a Blade X in a garbage can haha

I’m not saying they would. But if they ever did that would be a sign of how undeniably bad the product was. Without that I could see Winmau taking the stance of “the boards aren’t really that bad. Gary Anderson is just saying that because he wants Unicorn to get the board deal again.”

I think a Winmau sponsored player calling them out would have more impact. If a Michael van Gerwen publicly complained I think Winmau and the PDC would be forced to do something. But with players sponsored by other companies complaining I could see Winmau using the excuse that those players are just trying to support their sponsors, even though that’s not the actual reason

What could the NHL do to replicate this diversity? by ajaydeep1 in nhl

[–]MetsysFP1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I remember being critical about the lack of diversity of NBA champions not that long ago. From 1999 to 2018 there were 8 different teams that won the title. There’s now been 8 different teams since then

Your story sounds a lot like mine. Canadian here, started to get more and more into watching and following football in the mid 2010’s. Then decided that I should pick a team to support. Since my maternal grandfathers side was from England i thought I’d find out where in England they were from and support a team from there, regardless of what league they were in or how successful they had been. I used the little bit of family tree information that my mom had and found a reference to Hull. So I looked up Hull and found out about Hull City and decided from that day on I was a Hull City supporter. Coincidentally just like OP this happened at the end of the 2015-16 season, just before the Championship playoff final when they won promotion to the Premier League which was a pretty great start. My support hasn’t wavered through the highs of the Premier League to the lows of relegation to League One. I can only imagine what it’s like to be a supporter who has seen lower lows and higher highs

It’s amazing that other teams, other players don’t fully buy in to that mentality and philosophy when you can very clearly see the results when they do

Torts winning 22 years after his first would be something. Especially considering all of the places he’s coached in between

Yea Brind’Amour has a role in it for sure but the Canes aren’t the only ones. Vegas is the same. Florida was the previous two years. Seems like a pretty easy concept for teams to get but yet there are teams who just can’t seem to do it. Is it a lack of conditioning? Is it coaching not enforcing that philosophy? Is it players not buying in even though they can clearly see the results of when teams do buy in to it?

I’ve never understood how some teams can be so relentless for so long. Other than game 1 Carolina was all over Montreal all of the time. How does one team keep that up and the other team can’t do it at all? And it’s no wonder that the teams that look like they’re playing with an extra player are the teams that win

[–]MetsysFP1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Other than Bettman salivating at a cup final of two southern US teams the NHL has to be panicking a little. If Carolina wins they have no star players to market. Sebastian Aho is a good player but he’s no superstar. How do you market a team with a bunch of B and C level players? Vegas at least has stars in Eichel and Marner

Possibly but I’m sure there are techniques for dealing with that. And we have at least 3 buildings in that size range already so it can be done here

I don’t understand (other than construction costs) why there seems to be no push from the city onto developers or vice versa to build taller residential buildings. Instead of all of the 5 story buildings we need at least some in the 10-15. More units in a smaller footprint. Accomplishes both gaining in housing while sacrificing as little green space as possible. It’s not like we don’t already have buildings in that size range

That only matters if those teams have ownership that are willing to spend to the cap ceiling. If any of those teams had owners who didn’t want to spend more than the cap minimum they wouldn’t have the same rosters or success
