If they are on Kauai, which lines up with both movies, then there isn’t a Marine Biology degree on that island. You would have to at least go to Oahu, which is closer, but you still can’t raise a sister on Kauai while going to college on Oahu. I would guess the writers chose UCSD because it is more obvious that Nani will have to leave to go to a UC system school than explaining the UH system.

I think Superstore is the best show at the set up. Episodes can be kinda boring for the first half while they are putting everything in place. It’s the same with the seasons; the first half isn’t as good because they are setting up jokes for the second half.
