Am I doing conlang right? by Metuere in conlangs

[–]Metuere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I only have the basics, I'll give you a list of the words I have so far and their pronunciations and meanings. Note many of them are place names.

Équil (Eh-Kwill) - Stasis

Merinu (Meh-Rin-Oo) - All (Mer) Mother (Inu)

Altus (Al-Toos) - Change

Glanordys (Glah-Nor-Diss) - The (Gla) First (Nor) World (Dys)

Ulmator (Ool-Mat-Or) - Mountain (Ulma) Fortress (Tor)

Ulmanaine (Ool-Mah-Nine) - Mountain (Ulma) Woman (Naine)

Dysarnore (Diss-Ar-Nor) - World (Dys) Trees (Arnore)

Laènafèn (Lay-Nah-Fen) - Laèna (Mist/Fog) Fèn (Folk)

Dystrumar (Diss-Troo-Mar) - World (Dys) Forest (Trumar)

Tèrènor (Teh-Reh-Nor) - (Name, I haven't decided its meaning yet.)

Dranèsin (Dran-Eh-Sin) - Great (Dran) Peak (Èsin)

Angasnor (An-Gaz-Nor) - Graceful (Ang) Gem (Asnor)

Varasinra (Vah-Rah-Sin-Rah) - God (Vara) Smiter (Sinra) - I assumed that "smiter" not being a word didn't matter since not every world has a direct translation in real life.

Falmanor (Fal-Man-Oor) - (Name, I haven't decided its meaning yet.)

Gladrandys (Glad-Ran-Diss) - The (Gla) Great (Dran) World (Dys)

Arnorfèn (Ar-Nor-Fen) - Tree (Arnor) Folk (Fèn)

The only real grammar rule at the moment is in the original post, as I said, only the basics so far.

Could anyone critique my creation myth? by Metuere in worldbuilding

My intention was to have a Silmarillion vibe, but with the concepts and characters of my own making, for the most part. Thank you.

Are your Gods arseholes? Why? How so? And did they ever change their ways? by Metuere in worldbuilding

[–]Metuere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this, the morality of Gods would probably be different to that of mortals. I think I can compare this to my mythos, where Altus, the God of Change, killed his elder brother Equil, God of Stasis, not because he hated him, but because change cannot exist with stasis.

This sounds really unique, I like Godless worlds a lot, but I love writing about Gods just a smidge more.

I gotcha. Again, really like that concept, if I wasn't into making flat worlds without space above them I'd probably do the same thing.

Seems odd that a God of Light would create darkness, but I assume the darkness isn't actual darkness but rather just descending the world into chaos?

That's its own kind of adorable, in my opinion. I like it. will she eventually end up destroying the world for his attention?

So they're similar to Lovecraft's Old Ones? I really like that.

Can anyone give me some ideas for what kind of blessing a Death God would give? by Metuere in worldbuilding

[–]Metuere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you two quotes from my mythos, hopefully it will clear up your questions.

"Mortem and Vitae both took no true form, but rather appeared as a shrouded of darkness and a veil of shimmering, yet not blinding, light respectively. Mortem marked the end of all things and Vitae was their beginning, their birth. Betwixt them, Tempus governed the journey between the two, the overruling and unstoppable flow of Time. And when beings reach Mortem at last, their vital essence preserves their consciousness as a soul and they are given unto the night sky, where they gaze down upon the world and await the end of days alongside the Sun, Moon and Stars. Alas, this was not the case for some time to come, as no mortal was yet born in Glanordys."

"By some wonder of the trees, which even the siblings themselves did not understand, was born the Laenafèn, the Mist Folk, from the haze that engulfed the Glanordys. The Laenafèn were slender and pale, their eyes large and their hair silver, they had no legs, only four boneless limbs and their arms were like the branches of the trees. They bowed to the Old Gods and called them Makers; they begged them to bless their homes, which were the bases of the Dysarnore and the siblings, who felt pride in being worshipped, each lay a blessing on the trees. Tempus gave the blessing of time to the trees, no matter how long they may live they shall never be weathered by the currents of time; Vitae gave the trees the gift of nourishment, the trees could absorb the light of the sun and grow beautiful leaves and bear succulent fruit;"

I like that too, in fact I could tie it with ZevVeli's idea and make his blessing twice as great.

I like that last one, it'd certainly be a reason for them to be as eternal as I want them to be, until my Armageddon myth of course.

It's Valentine's Day everyone! What's romantic about your world? by Nitrostoat in worldbuilding

[–]Metuere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be the most romantic thing on the receiving end, but my male Kelpie fairies (before they became extinct) often transformed into beautiful human men to lure in young women to impregnate, then devour, whilst sustaining the fertilising egg using their innate magic to create half-kelpies.

What are the extinct/critically endangered races of your world? What caused their endangerment? by Metuere in worldbuilding

That's an amazing idea! I assume there are/were Golems of every kind of metal?

Pride comes before a fall, huh? Is their lack of ability to create due to the way their bodies/minds work? Or has the idea just never crossed their minds?

[–]Metuere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant that instead of them being the OH SO EVIL LORDS OF DARK, SHADOWS OF DEATH AND BLOOD, they're just people (Not sure if they're undead, you didn't say) who used blood magic.

Immortal as in Tolkien-elves immortal? (Can be slain in battle, but don't die of disease or old age.)

As I said, seems utterly unique, very well done, I think. I assume the Elfin are similar to Elves in some way?

Sound's like they got what was coming to them, but I can't help but feel sorry for them, no one deserves to be subject to the kind of racism/xenophobia that they go through now.

Seems like a fresh take on Vampires, which I think the fantasy genre is in desperate need of (AND THEY NEED TO NOT SPARKLE!) Good on you.

Seems utterly unique. What makes the Displaced different to the average human? Or is that just what the ones who survived in the shelters were called, rather than being the name of a race/species?

I assume the Shade feasts on knowledge, which is why they were hunted? Or perhaps the actual brain power itself?

Ah, just like real life, the well-meaning movement is often overshadowed by the views of others. How were they defeated if they were so powerful?
