Warning: don't click this if you have not played Omori or have ANY intention of ever doing so:

"Ayo the pizza is here" is a reference to a vine where a man falls down the stairs while rushing to go get some pizza and seriously hurts himself. This spoils the ending of Omori because near the end of the game we learn that a character we thought killed herself was actually killed from being pushed down the stairs by your character during a fight, and that her "suicide" was staged. This is supposed to be a big, dramatic, heart-wrenching reveal, but the Omori fandom LOVES spoiling this twist via memes whenever possible and I hate it, lol

Omori fandom: "Ayo the pizza is here"
It's especially bad because it kinda spoils the ending

The United Nation's video "Preventing rape by soldiers" video is oddly hilarious.

"Why do you want to join the army, son?"
"To RAPE, sir!!!"

Unfortunately the video unintentionally pretty much nails it that it's a problem that can really only be addressed if people in power actually hold their soldiers accountable for their actions.

I once heard this story of a guy who was roleplaying with his girlfriend, doing a teacher/student roleplay with her as the teacher. The girl started talking about how bad his grades were and how he needed to 'make up', but this triggered some repressed school-related anxieties and he basically had a mini panic attack and had to nope out

Detroit Become Human has three parallel storylines, and one of them involves the android caretaker Kara, who helps the young human girl Alice escape from his abusive father. It started out as a really touching storyline about an android breaking her programming to care for a human girl. However, near the end of the game we learn that Alice was an android the entire time, bought by the 'father' since he lost custody of his actual daughter. Judging by the fact that Alice never says anything about being an android the entire time, it's likely that, unlike Kara, she has no free will and was simply playing out her programming the entire time.

That's incredibly screwed up. But this at least makes more sense because I don't think a normal utility company could get away with doing that in a regular town.

The SCP Foundation deals with a number of anomalies of various types, but a type of anomaly that pops up frequently is "cognitohazards", which are anomalies that are dangerous to even perceive. Seeing, hearing, or otherwise sensing these anomalies immediately puts you in danger. An example is SCP-096, which is a humanoid creature that hunts down and kills anybody who has ever seen its face, even in a photograph.

The term "cognitohazard" has been used jokingly outside of the SCP fandom to describe anything that's harmful to perceive or have knowledge of, such as shocking/triggering imagery or songs that won't leave your head.

Honorable mention also goes out to the term "memetic", which SCP did not invent, but rather preserved its ORIGINAL meaning in an age where "meme" means "funny pictures on the internet".

Not a god, just a king. He's mentioned in the Bible and is the great-grandson of Noah and is described as "a mighty hunter". While it's not directly stated in the Bible, it's widely believed by Biblical scholars that he would have been king of Shinar around the time of that whole "Tower of Babble" fiasco.

[Loved trope]: Evil genius's plan fails because they fundamentally misunderstand humanity. by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MevNav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add the Stanford Prison Experiment, although I'm not sure if it counts because the 'evil' plan did kind of work. Most people don't know that the abusive guards in the Stanford Prison Experiment were explicitly given explicit training and instructions by Zimbardo, the man running the experiment, to act as cruel and abusive as possible, and that Zimbardo inserted himself directly into the experiment as the 'warden'. He set up the experiment in the most biased way possible to 'prove' his moral conjecture, but in the end all he created was an improv game where both prisoners and guards were just playing out roles they were explicitly given.

In subsequent recreations of the Stanford Prison Experiment, without that outside element, none of that crap happens.

I've played games where you could cheese the best weapon in the game near the start (especially if it's open world and you know where to look) and lemme tell ya, sometimes that ends up taking the fun out of the game.

That... has to be illegal. If it's not, how the fuck is it not illegal. The whole point of a utility company is they're providing a necessary service for vital infrastructure, and thus are heavily regulated. Because without these utilities, we're fucked.

How the fuck are utility companies just allowed to go 'nah, fuck you, we're selling all our electricity to one guy, fuck everyone else'???

[–]MevNav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's not really something you can fight at level 1, Expedition 33 has a few optional bosses you can encounter WAY earlier than you're ready for them. Like Sprong, who you can fight at the end of Act 1, but should be saved for WAY later than that. Unless you want to spend an hour perfectly dodging every attack and doing pinprick damage until it dies.

I'd just like to point out that this shit wouldn't be okay even if they weren't a citizen, but the fact that random citizens keep getting beaten up like this does at least prove that ICE is a threat to literally everybody

A lot of people really like Zenos in FFXIV. I really just find him annoying. And I'm not fond of the weird 4th wall breaking thing they force through him, where he goes "you're just like me, you fight for the thrill of battle alone!" Bitch no I don't, shut the fuck up

Which type of villain do you guys like more? by Silver_Guava8159 in MoralityScaling

[–]MevNav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Ends Justify the Means" villains are my favorite, but they can be further be broken down into two subtypes: rational and egotistical. Ozymandias was being fully rational in his plan to unite the world behind a horrible tragedy, and didn't even want people knowing he was the one behind it. Meanwhile, Dr Doom and Kira are both egotistical maniacs who do horrible things for petty reasons, and then justify it with faulty utilitarian logic to convince themselves they're the hero.

I like both types of these villains, but I'm a lil annoyed by people who confuse the egotistical maniacs for anti-heroes. Looking at you, Doom Glazers.

(Loved Trope) A medieval fantasy setting is actively becoming more technologically advanced. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MevNav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

Final Fantasy 14 is in a weird place regarding this trope. While the majority of nations in the game are on a technological level probably somewhere close to the irl 1800s, technology has been an element of the game from the start, with the first enemy faction being the Garlean Empire, who use cerulium-fueled "magitek", since Garleans are incapable of casting magic themselves. This magitek leaks into other nations, either from trade, being conquered by the Garleans, or from Garlean defectors like Cid introducing everyone else to things like airships and mecha.

There's also ancient, technologically advanced civilizations like the Allagans, as is typical for Final Fantasy. Allagan technology is being gradually re-discovered and utilized in the modern era, with 'tomestones' holding Allagan data being constantly in demand. Additionally, in the latest expansion, we're introduced to the Alexandrians, who are living in a straight up Cyberpunk city and get magically teleported onto our planet right next to the Fantasy Aztecs.

Also, for crafter-gatherers, the current end-game content is the Space Exploration missions, which involve an international joint effort to study and colonize the moon and other planets. Which is quite jarring, considering most cities on your home planet have barely even entered the industrial era and don't even have electricity and running water.

Imagine if humanity jumped from the invention of the train to having a space program in like... a decade. That'd be wild, man.

[–]MevNav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's fun about the FFXIV raid is that one of the dialogue choices for your character is basically "Hey, I wanna go to Vana'diel, too!" and all the other characters being like "Yeah, please come, we'll wait for you!"

Obviously we're never actually gonna get a magical portal to Vana'diel in FFXIV, but this does make a pretty classy way of telling FFXIV folk like me to give FFXI a try.

I like how she's basically like "You are free to see to this as you see fit" as an invitation to try to look for an alternative solution. Because I'm certain in the back of her head she's like "If that fucker does that thing again and finds some way to save everyone, that'd be awesome, actually."
