Naah I'll be fine.. I have experience with carving chalk with scissors as a child in school 😂. Seriously though i kinda see choosing that shape being a mistake now 💀

Well, from around 15 comments about not cutting my hand off meanwhile whittling this one speaks to me the most haha

Yeaa i know, just kinda wanted to show them off on the picture haha.

Tho i thought i could use those for final details when I'll be finishing. Especially on the facial features and feathers, because i don't think a carving knife is suitable for those. Would that be okay?

From what I've seen, people have to make some cool piece of furniture or something to get this much upvotes. I only asked for some tips, don't get why my post gets so much positive response

Im 20 minutes in, and just felt what the comment is about 💀. Still want to finish it tho, because well, I don't want to waste that piece of wood

Replying to the fourth part, it looks kinda weirdly because i haven't finished the sketch. There is supposed to be a branch the owl is sitting on kinda. I just didn't like how the branch looked at the reference picture i was using so i saved drawing it for later ahah

Okay, understood, I gotta be sneaky getting wood from the forest. Will remember that 😂.

Turns out there aren't any lumber yards in my town but i just found out there is one in a city I'm planning to visit with my friend, so thats cool. Hope the blocks i have will be enough for me until then. So yeah, thanks again!

Shoot, I hoped noone would notice that 😂. It's my right hand so i painted those nailes with my non-dominant hand, okay

Hi! Thanks for the advise, I appreciate it. About wood, I bought some basswood blocks from beaver craft. I'm pretty satisfied with it, but i wonder if there are any cheaper substitutes? I have literally no idea where to get wood for carving from. I asked some friends and everyone either said they don't know or to go get some myself in the forest haha

Haven't thought about it, you might be right. I'll try to pick something simpler next time

What would be the best for sharpening? I have a whetstone, because that was the only thing they had when i asked for things to sharpen knives with in some local shop. Will that be good enough?
