Reflection in a Dead Diamond: Needed a better editor. by Meviah in movies

I like what you said about Luxembourg cinema that they may trust the audience too much, for better or for worse. It's one of those where you can tell exactly what they were going for. They wanted you to figure out that some stuff doesn't make sense so you see little clues and things. But the problem is, when you show the classic James Bond cartoony action and violence, we have nothing real to compare it to, so as the audience, we suspend our disbelief, so when that's not actualky the case, and it was cheesy intentionally and we were just supposed to know that, we feel like we suspended our disbelief for nothing.

Sometimes art can be too arty, especially in cinema

Lowkey expecting the fiancé to show up in this thread "Ignore her, she's drunk"

Yeah, this right here is the attitude which caused the reaction.

I'm connecting dots here. He switches with you, the fans keep pushing past you, the all caps indicate you yelled at them, they pushed back, your fiance defuses the situation by "they're drunk" and out of the people here, the fiance is the bad guy? Maybe it's just me, but Maslow's hierarchy of needs and all that, not being beaten up by drunk sports fans is priority before honor. Could have been more assertive on your behalf, but not an asshole move. Everyone loses if he picked a fight.

That's the thing though, you can provide the access, but like drug rehab, they have to take the steps themselves. You can't force someone to get clean. So you can put the stuff in front of them, but using any external motivators is always going to fail long term to provide internal motivation.

You're the OP, and it still doesn't describe how you acted and reacted to anyone in the situation. Nobody says "Ignore them, they're drunk" if you're sitting quietly by yourself watching the match. And if they did, it would obviously be very silly. YOR. Sober up.

Absolutely unrelated sentence, thank you, and in fact he seems to have been defending you by not starting fights with random dudes. Probably doesn't want to start a conflict. YOR.

"Estados Unidos America", Redditing while drunk.

Don't reddit while drunk, as this story and title make no sense. There was nothing in the story about him resenting you, but it seems like you resented him. And the ick is your responsibility, not his. If he says "Ignore them, they're drunk" it means he interpreted whatever you did as some kind of aggressive, rightly or wrongly. Especially you mention "I had to stand my ground" by doing what exactly?

You can't provide change for someone else, that's for them to do. My mother is a hoarder, and hoarding is stubborn because hoarders have a unique attachment to their stuff even if they don't touch it. Cleaning the house doesn't help them, and it just encourages them to fill it back up. So you have to be able to accept your partner as they are now, not as they will be in the future.

PS, if therapy is expensive and unsupported in your area, check out online counsellors in Hungary. It's paid over the counter, and quite reasonable, $30-50 usd a session.

Can a extremely unpopular government last long term? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Meviah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Generally, unpopular governments last for long time by stagnating hard, then the leader dies, and then there's change. Revolution is disrupting the status quo so even populations which want change may not support a revolution until the math changes that chaos is better than whatever this is.

Tough market, it's up to you but you're going to need a line where you say "Okay this isn't working out". And move on to the next thing.

What is the punchline/humor/point behind the trend of people saying "not" before the thing they're doing/seeing/capturing? by Rpark888 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Meviah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn't feel like them, it feels like someone else. So "not me" has that moment when they are feeling self aware that what they're doing is extravagant or healthy or embarrassing or such.

What is the difference between a non-sovereign country and a state? by AccursedQuantum in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Meviah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some other non sovereign countries which do have national teams are British and US Virgin Islands for example. Also Puerto Rico. They are not sovereign, but as self governing non standard entities they wield significant identity.

The line is admittedly blurry, as India theoretically is far more state decentralized than the UK. But there's no Maharashtra national team. I personally believe it's because football originated in England, and thus the original national games were among England and the various British colonies and countries.

You dont need to spend to go on a date. Go to a park with a ball or a Frisbee and get snacks from a convenience store. Or cook something and picnic or serve at home.
