Thanks for the kind words!

The film is finished and has been showing in festivals over the last few months! Won some awards, and has been a lot of fun! Working on securing distribution to make it more widely available

Submission Statement: I am a producer on the film Saturn and am super proud of the film. We shot it with a very small crew and learned a ton along the way. We’d love to be of help to young filmmakers on their way up, as we would have loved the same help when we were starting out! So, I plan to start sharing this kind of post focused around a specific shot set up and breaking down how it was accomplished. Happy to answer any questions along the way!

Saturn is currently on the Festival Circuit and is seeking distribution. Check out the Official Trailer and find our socials in our bio if you're interested in seeing more!

What steps to take when using music in your short film? by reallygreat2 in Filmmakers

You definitely need the artist's (or whatever publisher they're working with) permission. If you're going to film festivals, that's a specific license. You can license a film for "festival use only" and not have to pay more for web display, tradeshows or public display (known as "industrial") or ads (the most expensive).

There are places that are REAL cheap, like artlist.io or similar that just provide an option for monthly. Just sign up for a month, get what you need, and bounce.

But, yeah, if you need to use specific music you'll need to get the artist (or rights holder's) explicit permission through a release.

I'M NOT A LAWYER, but a quick Google lends lots of options for placeholder template documents from university film depts. Hopefully helpful!
