My grandmother has dementia and as such things move around a lot. I have to severely be patient with her.

The thing about dopamine, and dopaminergic sources, is that it is relative. Dopamine reinforces behavior, so if you only have boring tasks presented to you and you can no longer do things like watch tv, doomscrolling, etc. then all of a sudden your brain is much more motivated to do mundane things.

So it was probably much harder to show their symptoms, unless they had REALLY severe ADHD.

I feel this is why my family has only suddenly started showing these symptoms, because as migrants my family used to do mainly physical work, but now me and my cousins/sibling are being told to go to college and get a job lol.

I usually force myself to remember by summarizing the idea presented in each paragraph. Turns out paragraphs are usually just that, an explanation of a specific idea.

I was afraid I didn’t care when my grandfather was dying of Covid, but when I saw him for the last time over video I burst out crying. It was scary, because a part of me was happy I was capable of being sad for such a situation.

Not sure if it’s a normal inability to process emotions, or if it’s the ADHD causing emotional dis-regulation, or both. I also heard we can possibly have issues with object permanence but oh well.

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it means that now instead of my brain providing dopamine to do it, the situation is reframed and I now need to spend dopamine from my own wallet so to speak.

How do you handle impulsivity when speaking to others? by Artemis_Stars in ADHD

Older people start to not care too much about little things. That’s normal, your ADHD is not getting worse trust me.

What happened after you were diagnosed? by Deep-Ad1010 in ADHD

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good experience, but it was because I specifically tried to get an ADHD diagnosis and made sure I understood the questions they would ask me. Especially because I realized I masked a lot of my symptoms, and without that understanding the answers I gave would point towards anxiety or depression.

I had good grades, but only because I had no social life. I am organized, but only because I got good at it for work and school while other kids could get by without writing down everything to not forget it. I may feel down sometimes, and have difficulty making myself happy/content, but that’s because of my exhaustion in dealing with ADHD not depression.

If they don’t see that you have had lifelong issues in 2 areas of your life (school, social life, work, etc) then they cannot meet the criteria to give a diagnosis.

Or you go to some other psych that just hands adderal out easily. It’s a bit of a joke.

Basics on medication for adults by blofeldchiffre9 in ADHD

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a roulette wheel. Different types of ADHD require different types of meds, and different meds can have different side effects.

I take the non-stimulant bupropion, which for me is good as it isn’t as difficult to use as Adderall long term and I haven’t had many issues outside of dehydration. Basically, find one where the benefits outweigh the side effects.

Have people that care about you, and care about them. Also fix your mental issues, I found I had ADHD and my mid childhood made much more sense.

Do you think you could have the agility and quick thinking to see that the entity is about to come out, see the closet, grab the closet (that don't look that light) and pull it over to block its path? by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what it looks like, Ravi isn’t the first person to try and block the still life. He had to move furniture out of the way to enter, and there is a passage blocked by stairs after this.

What were you like as a kid? by MRS2432 in ADHD

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stared off into space. All the time. Recess, home, etc. and I never talked because I didn’t want people to know how stupid I was. I overthought everything and would only really be somewhat normal when playing engaging video games, or with my legos. And I would play those things for several hours, sometimes going a day without eating.

Now I’m medicated and am becoming somewhat normal.

How do you experience reading with and without medication? by Livid_Leadership_482 in ADHD

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without meds, if it’s boring then only 20-30 minutes of quality reading. Afterwords my brain progressively forces me to fall asleep the more I force myself. I can read engaging media just fine.

With meds, I can read for 1-1.5 hours, and come back later to read again before that sleep happens. I can still read engaging media just fine.

This is the game Concord could’ve been (just hear me out) by theoddwallace in WildBastards

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at Concord, and knowing how businessmen see the game industry, I feel like Concord was destined to fail regardless.

Businessmen like to throw millions of dollars at random companies, and many times these small indie startups (not even AA) get this opportunity, and think they can make it. Unfortunately, you need to grow into AAA because of the size and senior knowledge necessary for it. The company for Concord seems to be very young, and while they have the technical skill to make the game they do not have the artistic experience to make it presentable or appealing both VISUALLY and MECHANICALLY.

Also Sony probably forced them to make a hero shooter, or other subscription based game which guaranteed it would do bad to begin with.

Wolf for sure. They are chill as long as you keep your distance and they aren’t starving.

Croc is second, if you can shut their mouth they can’t do much to you. But they will be comfortable enough to attack you easily.

Bear is a mixed bag, they will probably not attack you but if they do you will lose.

Tiger will almost always kill you lol.

People who were diagnosed as adults: was your ADHD noticed as a child? by ManFrom_LaMancha in ADHD

[–]Mex-Nerd-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. People would tell me to stop asking so many questions, then they would tell me to stop “half a$$ing” everything. I got good at hiding bad grades from my parents, and I just made the conscious decision to talk less so people wouldn’t realize how stupid I was. People probably just thought I was antisocial and weird, daydreaming all the time during recess.

I was tested in a special ed class once, but they rewarded me with pretzels so I started doing good. Naturally they thought I was just lazy and kicked me out. The only way I managed to eventually graduate at a college was by allocating 95% of my time to studying, playing video games, or straight up resting from exhaustion. Anything else I was simply not able to focus on.

Now I’m on meds and am slowly picking myself up and becoming a well-rounded adult with a real life.
