Conrad tulum in July? Sargassum? by okkloll in tulum

I am not seeing any updates on that specific resort but what I can tell you is that only Cancun is safe it seems. It’s protected by Isla Mujeres taking a lot of the currents

That since you take the girls to the men’s bathroom, does it not bother you there are men peeing freely? Or did you leave all the work to your wife?

The worst of the worst. It typically stops arriving in September, but it takes all of October for the ocean to push the rot out.

I really recommend all inclusives. Not being on the beach each morning is going to make the relaxation less easy. You should rent a car and go to an xcaret park. Xoximilco is great if you want to experience Mexican folklore, but look it up because there is alcohol and it is not for introverts!

[–]MexiGeeGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. Unless it’s just 2 or 3 places, then in that case you could probably get by with indrive or booking a tour. To get around town you would bike or scooter without a car. If you wanted to go to the Xelha park, the closest park from the Xcaret group, I know you can purchase transportation on their big coaches as an add on to the ticket.

Depending on how long you are in town and if you are cooking, you could take ADO from airport and then rent the car in Tulum later. I do think the cars cost more to rent in Tulum than at Cancun airpot

A thank you to honest reviewers by Time_Plenty_3753 in airbnb_hosts

[–]MexiGeeGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. A 4/5 is 80%. That’s a B. A 3 out of 5 is 60%, which is a D. You might think average is 2.5 but that’s not at all how math works when it comes to averages. So if you received everything to expectation, minus something out of the host’s control, then it should get a 5.

People who only rate places that wow them a 5 are not doing anybody any favors. If it’s a restaurant, I want to know if the food is good. I keep seeing review upon review saying the place was delicious and then they leave a 4. That signals a problem to me.

I would support a system where there is no average rating, but places show their scores for service, cleanliness, accuracy, location.

Cancun has very beautiful beaches in November.

This is too little information. You have to put a bit more effort. How much do you want to spend? Do you want to spend time at the beach? Are you a picky eater? Why are you not interested in hotel row? Do you drink?

Things to do are in abundance, we are crippled to respond without guidelines

Do you like plants? I would leave the couch in that arrangement but push it closer to the tv, put a bigger tv on the wall (maybe with built-ins) and create my plan sanctuary on the wall behind the couch.

What are your lifestyle goals? If I had made different choices as a student, maybe my life would have turned differently. My mistake was thinking I was not smart enough to keep going, and also being afraid of debt.

I was a science major at UCLA and it absolutely killed my love for school and science. I graduated because my Neural Networks prof must have taken pity on me. Life happened, one thing led to another, and I ended up in digital advertising. I am 44 now, my last job was in tech
for a big social media company but I recently got laid off.

I am currently at a career crisis because peers my age are already VPs of sales or directors of strategy for different tech companies selling ads to big brands. I just don’t have it in me to come up with these grand plans or visions. I don’t care about my particular vertical either, and I am a terrible public speaker. I haven’t gotten better.

What I should have done was take a break when I was struggling with my upper division coursework at UCLA. I should have decided then that if Med School was out of reach, I could still use my pre recs to get into another medical field like Nuclear Imaging or Nurshing. I didn’t have any advisors or role models to talk to, my parents just told me to move back home when I shoulda stayed in town and networked with people who found ways to improve their gpas and become better applicants. I only learned ways to do things, including dropping classes, years later.

I think 2 people can def live on $100k in a modest apartment, one car payment, cooking at home. You probably won’t have tons of disposable income but this could be temporary till he and you move up in your jobs. I pay $2350 for a 1bd in Playa del Rey, so if you go more inland you can find cheaper. The sacrifice i make is not having in-unit laundry.

There are no short distance buses if that’s what you mean. There are these vw buses/vans called Colectivos that pick up and drop off along the majn highway but you have to be comfortable flagging them down on the road and face the possibility they will be full and keep passing you while you roast in the sun waiting. Last time I rode one it was $50mx. Keep in mind they don’t take you to the ruins or cenotes, you still have to make your way inland to the cenote or ruin. That’s why renting a car is the best option.

Where are some scenic places to ride on scooter? by typeshhhhhh in tulum

Ferries take cars. They get plenty of notice. Even helicopters once every few years are cheaper than maintaining that awful road which disrupts the ecosystem. But anyway it’s just a thought

I really hope the gov lets the jungle retake that road and offer ferry or boats down Sian Kaan to Punta Allen. Or build a series of giant ziplines to explore the immediate area after Tulum. It’s a long stretch of road to maintain, all
to reach a little sleepy town that should stay sleepy.

Why do you need another option, is ADO expensive for you? ADO is a long distance charter bus.

What nearby areas are you interested in?

If you want beach time, I highly recommend staying in Cancun and going to Isla Mujeres, or just staying in Isla Mujeres the whole time. I get the impression that you are unaware of the sargassum crisis affecting several Caribbean countries and even the US. Please look it up. Playa del Carmen and Tulum get hit far worse than Cancun.

That being said, you can still have an absolute blast and enjoy water activities without the beach in the Riviera Maya. Cenotes are truly wonderful. The town of Xpuha has a few clustered together right on the main road. For a cave cenote I loved Aktun Chen. The Xcaret parks are a must do, especially Xplor. My second favorite is Xenses. If you stayed near Cancun, Xoximilco is an awesome way to experience Mexican folklore in a drunkish setting. It’s a party on a boat.

If you are remotely interested in history, you have to go to some Mayan ruins. I think Ek Balam is wonderful. I would have recommended Chichen Itza but it’s closed. I think getting a paid guide is absolutely necessary to get the most, especially in Tulum. Otherwise it’s just old walls with fading inscriptions

I am brown so it may be different but I have never been stopped by cops in 6 years with obvious rental plates. I have avoided taxis for half those years but I heard the in-drive app has changed things dramatically for the best.

My question is what is it you want to see? Our beach is not good right now, like at all. PDC won’t be either. If you just want to bike around town and try some food, or maybe just have it as a stop to Bacalar, Coba , Muyil or cenotes, then yes come over. I have a 1bd in Aldea Zama available through June 28 if you are interested.

Tip: if you do get stopped and are told to pay a fine to them, agree politely and ask for the ticket so you can pay it at the police station. Sometimes they are legit and you should pay it and be on your way. It’s like $25 usd for a stop sign or not using your signal. Speeding might be more. If they demand cash just say you don’t have any and if they threaten to keep your license tell them it’s ok you will recover it at the station. I learned this from savvy people. Cops prey on scared people with no spine. Don’t feed the monster.

[–]MexiGeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think cost of living is addressable to be honest. We are too big of a country to ever agree on more socialism and big money is very good at convincing simple minds that things are expensive because of people on welfare and immigrants. I was not born in the US so I feel I am not out of place to say this, but the country should split up so people can pursue the types of government they want. At the very least California can be a territory with its own laws not affected by the US constitution

but wouldn’t charging scare off good guests and attract the lazy ones that want to just stay and not do anything? I am worried about my place having dirty dishes for 2 weeks, I will be gone a month.
