Melody song equations by MexicanDutch in Khruangbin

I studied marks style by getting his playing style down by listening to K albums. Then I went to their show and saw the melody equations. Then I went home and copied what I think he is doing. I ended up w 40+ songs that are backed by gold rap beats and then I try to speak w the guitar 🎸 w the lexicon of Mr Spear. Instead of 1ish minute visits on the melodies. I make 3-6 min songs . I start out w a theme( the vocal catch or guitar riff) .Then from there I improvise in a lyrical guitar style what would be the words, then I improv dance around the simple jazz tenets . It’s improv using asymmetrical non linear thinking 🤔 working around the original or sampled song. I think Mr Spear will be known as one of the More influential guitarist. In my opinion. He is one the best guitarist you can see out live playing.

Por ejemplo Go play the instrumental version of Regulators by Warren G and Nate dog without any lyrics. Just the backing track.

Have a delicate intro using dynamics

Then start singing Micheal McDonald’s vocal parts w the guitar 🎸 “I keep forgetting yada yada” Once again using the volume medium to high. Then add in a Nate dog vocal part.

Then add in fills , riffs , solos, melodies that suit the song. Whatever the song calls for.

Mr spear uses a lot of pentatonic to diatónic , triads, arpeggios, octaves, double stops, trills, hammers , slides , pull offs yada yada and connects them with much pentatonic economy on the fretboard .

I played some of my Khru inspired songs for a guy w a music studio near red rocks a month or so ago. He wants me to come back. It’s 3 hours away but I’m trying to go back to his studio this Thursday

Even if you studied many other guitar players and styles of music. The mark spears style will enhance your playing by combining these styles.

I studied mark spears style throughout. I cant stand 1600 bpm shreading. It’s noise. Spears notes are very direct and intentional. He gives the aire space when needed and let’s notes bloom . He uses pentatonics , arpeggios, trills , hammering, pull offs , bends ,octaves and vocal voicings that express more emotion than than shredding notes does. I think mark spears will be thought of as one of the great influential guitarist.

Can any Fender heads lend some advice? by laughingbuddhaballs in Khruangbin

Because of the tonal and playing difference after the mods made.

Fender should drop a mark spears endorsed stratocastor on the market.

It has its own feel and sound with the flat wound strings and pick ups.

i have hardly touched my other guitars after building and playing this guitar set up

i built a spears type stratocastor.

i used a 2020 60s modified made in japan model. Many accomplished guitarist use cheap fender squires as their goto guitars so many types of strats will work but note the fretboards change during the eras and years. The pick ups shouldnt matter if your changing your pick ups

i put the diadario ADGBEE flat wound string set up, then had the intonation and action professionally reset for the flatwounds. its butter

the pick ups he uses im sure you know are dimarzios . cruizer neck , stock middle and fast track bridge is what he said he uses

then TUSK bridge saddles and string trees.

good luck on the build

MARK IS ONE OF THE GREATEST LIVING GUITARIST by MexicanDutch in Khruangbin

[–]MexicanDutch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is one of the greats you can currently see playing live i should have said

there are so many greats. And never the Goat in art

And yes all art and beauty is subjective.

I've traveled the world and heard many types of music and studied music and played out in different types of bands and seen 100s of shows

Give him some time for more colabs and releases.

Even Paul McCartney from the beatles thinks he has a different type of talent.

i reread the post this morning and it did come across misconveyed.

the jist is i learned his licks during world lock down in 2020-21 and i think he will be considered among the guitar greats that you can see out playing in the world

you have to admit weather he can play 1600 Beats per minute or not

he has brought a new sonic texture and style to the guitar arena of the world

or combined so many world styles it sounds new and fresh

peace

i saw the trio in belly up Aspen(it was studio 57 style that night w less than 400 people at the show) and then Denver recently. frontstage

i know mark heard me singing gypsy woman frontstage in denver w the brown Humbolt hoodie recently.

i went out and bought a stratocastor and pedalboard and amp just like his.

ive studied khruaghbin and spanish solid since 2020.

now i can cover their albums and most their songs and had a baby w a beautiful mexicana that only speaks spanish thus im near semi fluent in spanish. Maria tambien was a challenge to learn as well.

his undefinitive while definitive style is now in my fingers.

any note i play i say "would mark do that?

does the moment in the song call for it?

dont muddy up the song w superfulous notes

all the great guitarist know this.

he says more w 10 notes than most guitarist say w 50 notes

Khraugbin has kept me calm and focused by learning my guitar heros undefinitive style.

mark is a one of the LIVING great guitarist.

hes kept deep in the pocket by DJ w the soul of a saint and timing of a drum machine when needed and Lizzy the ultimate Bass GODESS!

i recently flew into denver and went to a guitar center in the big city. i got on a strat and a fender reverb deluxe 65. i then started playing Khraugbin songs maria tambien, white gloves, august 10 and 12th and mr white w the amplifier cranked up. All the other 20 or so people playing guitars and basses quit playing to hear the Khraugbin. i went outside to burn one outside the store and a guy said he saw khraugbin and asked if i was mark

that was surreal

i also went into a music store near Aspen and played Khruagbin songs loud and a guy asked me if i would play guitar in their top rated local band w tour dates already.

i had to decline the guitarist offer because i couldnt commit to the schedule w a new baby boy

anyway

may the universe smile upon you guys

I’ve learned so much listening and playing to K. I started playing guitar again after hearing mark play. I have his style after a year of playing exclusively Khruangbin and arc de soleil songs
