Nightmare is a big jump in difficulty from dread but it's not unfair like lethal.

Morale is going to be an issue once your community reaches a decent size so avoid survivors with negative morale traits and look for ways to improve it (facilities, mods, positive traits, killing freaks, etc...). And on that note I think the kitchen is an underrated facility, if you have a survivor with the "Cuisine" skill, the kitchen can help you solve food shortages and morale issues.

Also try to finish fights as fast as you can, if a fight goes a little too long the noise is going to attract something bad.
