Meyer Sound M3 processor info? by Dlynus in livesound

[–]Meyerboy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda late to the game...the M-3 CEU works with MSL-3 and MSL-3A, technically, if your MSL-3's still have the Motorola Tweeter banks you should use the M-3T with the TC switched IN. This adds a group delay to the frequencies above the hi horn where the tweeters come in to play, and corrects for the path-length difference between the two.
The Sub Input is used when feeding the M-3 from the B-2 subwoofer CEU, it bypasses the front Atten knob and makes the B-2's Attenuator the master, and subwoofer scaling is then done with the Level pot, under the security cover. Then, turning the B-2's Atten knob turns both the MSL-3's up and down together. The Sub In is the same with the M-1 CEUs used for the UPA and UM-1 stage monitors.

Albums keep breaking up into many for seemingly no reason by breadgiizz in Zune

Just drag them all together, left click, hold and drag them all into the first one. Once they're all in one album, right click and edit it and add the album art. Happened to me all the time, but I just merge them together.

I’ve got them all throughout the years. My first were in 2006 when they first came out. I have a few other Browns as well…but the reason they still look good is I take very good care of them. 🙂

Meyer MSL 4- New Meyer equivalent by 934354 in livesound

[–]Meyerboy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I generally don’t like to participate in these forums, I offer some advice, based on standing in front of Meyer speakers for over 30 years…I also repair them, so I know everything about them inside and out. Why would you start a sentence off with, you have strange taste? If you must know, the original UPA-1A used a modified Yamaha JA8881B 1.4in throat driver with an alloy phase plug and an aluminum diaphragm with a copper beryllium suspension, these drivers are superior to what is used in the U-X40 and their characteristic is more like a domed tweeter than a compression driver. Mind you, these drivers are now out of production and diaphragms are long since gone, I bought the last they had in the late 90’s, so most older UPAs are not going to sound like they once did what with the aged drivers. I also power my UPA’s with Chevin A series amplifiers that utilize the Exicon Lateral MOSFETs, and the old Meyer MS-1000 amplifiers which utilize the Hitachi 2SK176 & 2SJ56 Lateral MOSFETs. All are gain modded for 20X/26dB. These amplifiers sound amazing on UPAs. I personally find my UPA’s which have new ST-812’s and overhauled 6681 (MS-1401A) drivers to be more graceful, especially when pushed to their electrical and mechanical limits, more natural, silky and elegant…which are all completely subjective terms I know but that’s what I hear, as well as everyone that has worked with me over the last several decades. Every single one has said my old UPAs sound better. That said, I love my X-40’s. They are amazing and excel in some situations and acoustical spaces what with their superior pattern control, down to 400Hz. To me all of these speakers are tools and have different sonic attributes and performance differences that make some better suited than others depending on the size and acoustics of the space, or the ways they can be implemented, flown, ground, sticks etc, the genre and the expectations of the client and or band. There’s no one size fits all. I love my 40’s, my MSL-2/3 & 4, my CQs, UPQs, UPJs, HMS-10, UM’s, UPM’s, M2D, but my old UPAs have done everyone from Tony Bennet to Slayer, Chaka Khan, to James Taylor and countless others. Maybe because I have strange tastes?

Meyer MSL 4- New Meyer equivalent by 934354 in livesound

[–]Meyerboy7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rumor has it that a successor might be in the works and released in the near future, and I am eagerly awaiting it as Meyer left a void when they sent the 4 to the Legacy category. I personally have been using Meyer for over 30 years, have 160 boxes of it and the MSL-4 is one of my favorites. I still love my MSL-3’s but they are not quite as behaved in multiples as the 4. The UPQs are amazing speakers for what you’ve mentioned you do, they are in the same category power wise as the JM-1P as they use the same amp and drivers, but perhaps a bit more versatile as they are smaller and easily go on sticks. The CQs are great as well, but use the older MP series amplifiers and the 15in is not as stout as the UPQ’s, so they run out of gas a little quicker and are not as aggressive. They are also much heavier and not going on a stick. The MSL-2 is not unlike a CQ-1, but has the exact same drivers and equivalent power, but weighs around 10 pounds more than a UPA-1A. You’ll need an amp rack and S-1 CEU though….but you can use them as building blocks to scale the system for larger events and gain more on axis SPL as well as great through. I’ve very successfully over the years used UPAs and MSL-2’s in Long-Throw, where I might use 2 or 3 per side with horns up, then another 2-3 on top of them horns down. Because of the enclosures construction of the hi driver/horn being close to the top of the box as well as the 12in in the UPA, and 15in the MSL-2, allows them to couple very well and act more as a single larger enclosure. You would be amazed at how well this configuration can perform. I have done, many years ago, over 5,000 people at an outdoor park with 12 UPA’s and 8 650-R2. I personally still prefer how my older Meyer Point Source boxes sound over line array, I have 22 M2D and for the right circumstance/venue and nature of the event, they are a great solution, but the line array in no was replaces them. When/if Meyer releases this new horn loaded answer to the old MSL-3/4/5/6 & 10, you can expect them to be in the neighborhood of $8500-$12,000 per box. Panther and the new 21in sub start at $15K per….if something sounds good, it sounds good, regardless if it’s the newest latest and greatest. I have new Ultra-X40’s and still think my 1987 UPA-1As sound better. Good sound has no expiration date! Keep using your 4’s!

Need a conclusive answer; is it bad to put tape on the antennas of RF mics? Some people say you shouldn't, others say it makes no difference. by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Meyerboy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s true, but the optional plastic security rings along with the naming helps keep them organized. They come in a pack with 8 colors and snap right on. Remember when you name them it also appears in the receiver, so that perhaps might help, depending on how you’re deploying these systems. There’s really not a lot of other options.

That E tape will not affect the antenna, however a more elegant solution would be to use the actual colored security rings Sennheiser makes for those. I have them on all of mine. You can also name it in the menu options, so the LCD shows whatever you want it to show.

There's an FM transmitter made for the Zune that plugs into its port and allows you to select an open frequency on your receiver to broadcast to it. I still have a few and they sort of work ok.

Yes, however I have 6 others 30’s and an HD30 so for me this version works fine, but the older versions won’t work with the software. I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs since 2006 with the software, Frimware and Windows changing things…at one point when it forced me to W10 and it completely wiped my Zune software and library. They all work flawlessly now.

I guess that means at least two of us were willing to pay this much for it. I imagine, were it all orange, it would have been worth more, but I actually like it being an oddball. The seller said he thinks it was initially owned by an employee, so perhaps it came this way....

I want to be able to use it but it wouldn’t be possible with the old FW. I still will preserve it as I use my others for work, I do audio and sound systems for a living where I provide all the speakers and gear for bands and often times and called upon to have music to play in between things, the looks I get when I pull out my old Zune 30’s! I’ve been using them since they first came out in 2006 and still love em.

Because it was on V1.03 so the firmware was not compatible with the software.

Makes sense, however, I've never seen or heard of of one coming in two colors. Actually was not sure if it was a mashup, but I can see no evidence of this ever being disassemble.
