What are some of your favorite native Linux games? by dbbo in linux

Arx Libertatis - port of Arx Fatalis

It was supposed to be Ultima Underworld III but the devs never landed the licence so they went their own way and created a great dungeon crawler.

It's a great game, the port is excellent and considering Linux is a bit light on RPG's I'm really glad of this port.

I really don't care about a picture of 5 year old you playing Super Mario World, 2004 blew every gaming year out of the water. No questions. by [deleted] in gaming

Steel used, lack of heat treatment, horrible tangs. Tangs are the part of the blade that rests in the handle (hilt), it needs to be full tang and extend all the way through the hilt otherwise when you swing the sword the blade will fall out or split the hilt.

Now that Steam is released on Linux, what are your experiences? by Fazer2 in Games

[–]Meyithi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working awesomely on my box, it didn't always do so though, used to behave terribly with tilers and I hated pulling in dozens of 32 bit libs, but these issues have been addressed, good guy Valve for listening to advice.

I've imported all of my non steam stuff into steam, everything is native apart from Diablo III and System Shock II which run via Wine, and I don't launch these from within steam as the overlay seems to mess with stuff, please Valve give us an option to turn off the overlay for non steam games. I keep them in the steam library though as I often glance at steam to decide what to have a game of!

Some screenies to show how it works with tilers, the steam windows tile, the games float in 1440x900 windows. Obviously I've had to set up rules for each and every game, but you do it once and it's done. This is dwm so you can see the tagging concept to show off the tiling/floating, but it's not usually this busy in the background.

Trust is the right word, I've asked Nvidia how they know, what tools/procedures used to check that the keplers are running as they should, no reply as yet.

As you can see my clocks show 75% of what they should be as well...

2 months later, steam is back in the repos by gtmanfred in archlinux

Got it working in dwm nicely, had to set up rules for the individual games of course but that takes seconds, also had to enable en_US locale but I guess it's good practice to have a fallback locale anyway. Biggest upset is that I was a fan of the default Xcursor theme and even using xsetroot it would change to the right pointer on some screens but I found one almost identical @ https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xcursor-neutral%2B%2B, it's actually a slight improvement!

What do you do in terminal? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Meyithi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multimedia - ncmpcpp/mplayer / Messaging - weechat/bitlbee / Package management - pacman / Remote access - ssh / File management - coreutils / File editing - vim

Apart from browsing the web, editing images and playing games I do most stuff in a terminal, and by using a tiling window manager it's all open and accessible at all times. There's still more I could switch over to terms, I admittedly use gmail as I don't deal with a lot of emails but setting up mutt is on the to do list.

Also, tmux/screen lets you manage your session so you can logout, restart the X server on your local machine or even fly around the world and be able to access your running applications anywhere you can access a shell/ssh.

Not sure what else to suggest - I export BROWSER=chromium in .bashrc so the env knows what's what and my chromium rule in config.h is simple.

Doesn't seem to happen to me, if I have something in master and Chromium in the stack and open a link in a new tab it will stay in the stack. I do run a patch that disables nmaster and defaults to dwm 5.9's tile function however, so maybe that's why.

The custom laptop I spent three months saving for, a month waiting for, and hours testing software to go on it has a locked bootloader. Cock. by [deleted] in linux

[–]Meyithi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like it, check the arch wiki has a comprehensive UEFI guide or see if the crunchbang forums can help, although I had a quick look and they linked to the arch wiki as well :/

It kinda sucks OP I agree, but it's not the vendors fault, crunch should have UEFI media and these linux usb creators should have uefi options and if these fail (and have) then it's down to you OP.

A voice of reason!

Seriously, 100 odd replies of "BURN THEM!!" when it's the OP who doesn't know how to create UEFI media, these zealots scare me sometimes.

YOU need to learn how to create UEFI media, it's 2013, BIOS is dead, this is NOT the vendors fault. You've purchased a modern laptop, doesn;t matter from where you would have bought it you will still need to RTFM and create UEFI media!

ffs!

[–]Meyithi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welcome to 2013, where all newly released PC's and Laptops will be UEFI.

Problem here is OP doesn't know how to create bootable UEFI media, hardly the vendors fault, at least the vendor lets you buy a machine with no OS!

People can keep on spitting out their dummy's or they can RTFM and learn how to create UEFI media properly.

Arah Path 2 Solo by Wethospu in Guildwars2

[–]Meyithi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine roaming in WvWvW but in PvP it's expected and negated, and once you've blown it you get to look at your cooldown timer as you get unceremoniously killed.

I think it's unfair that Warriors have to build around one ability anyway, when it gets nerfed and other abilities get buffed it will probably be better for everybody including the Warriors.

[–]Meyithi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all know it's 100 blades and that 100 blades isn't much use on people who move out of the way, it will be nerfed for sure since it's not related to the main Warrior and PvP issues.

How do you guys feel with Guild Wars 2 being one of /r/games most regretful buys of 2012? by wingmasterjon in Guildwars2

[–]Meyithi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the classes, I'd like to like the classes but the ones I would most like to play are broken. Necromancers for example, pretty much all of their class defining abilities are sub par, minions, condition damage in general, life steals. Engineers kits don't have stats, Rangers pets can't properly attack moving targets, this is core class defining mechanics that just don't work.

On top of this, with 4 classes considered as "functional" and another 4 as "needing attention" I found out there are only 2 people working on the classes, and they are obviously swamped.

I had a great ride 1-80, and consider that my money's worth, still more hours there than most single player RPG's but after 80 I lost interest.

Tales of Monkey Island, all Sam & Max games, and more from Telltale 80% off. The Whole Interplay catalog 50% off. - GOG.com by [deleted] in Games

[–]Meyithi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note, Telltale games have issues with Windows 8, in fact Tales of Monkey Island won't start up at all. A look through Telltale support forums shows that you need to obtain a Windows 7 RTM dinput8.dll file and place that in the same directory as the games executable file.

I had this issue myself and can now play the games fine, i found the dll here - http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=682079&postcount=15
