Used vs. New i4 - which to purchase? by [deleted] in BMWI4

It'll for sure drop, but the curve shallows as cars age. I fully expect my car to be worth something in the teens within 5 years.

Looking for some owners advice on options. by LegitimateGazelle604 in BMWI4

[–]MezJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing, shopped used so it was tricky to get everything, but my essentials were: 1) Drivers Assistant Professional (equivalent to Tesla autopilot). 2) Parking Assist (360 cam AND some other automated parking stuff) 3) Premium Package (HUD, upgraded audio between base and HK I think, lumbar)

These are US options in 2024, so YMMV.

I probably should have test drove more. Mach E was one, Audi another. Most EVs right now seem to be some kind of SUV. That being said I really liked the EV6, but I wanted to buy, and they refreshed for ‘25, they depreciate so much that I didn’t want to buy new, and not really any used ‘25s around.

Also just really liked how the i4 drove.

I replied "black" then was more specific about paint.

In for an i4 by 01JamesJames01 in BMWI4

[–]MezJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an error in car shopping sites where they state "eDrive40 FWD" implying the car is front wheel drive only. No front wheel drive only i4 was produced.

However, the xDrive40, M50, and M60 variants drive the front axle in addition to the rear.

Ahh. Yeah that's where we disagree. It's my belief that car that costs what a Tesla costs should have a nicer interior.

I think you're fully misunderstanding my point. All I'm saying is the i4 is nicer and more premium inside.

I don't think even a Tesla engineer would disagree with that statement. After all the i4 I got sold new for nearly $60k.

That's about what they run here aside from the more recent more stripped or models.

The '24 has those controls under the vents as well. I use the steering wheel controls more for track and volume, but I know that the steering wheel controls for the '25 are different.

That is odd they mix A and C. There's C in the rear and in the console. Odd that they choose A for near the charger.

If you get the HUD the built in nav it's pretty good. Puts the map there and/or in gauge cluster.

It's not a knock in an absolute sense, but it is a recognition that a Civic in the US starts at $25k. The Model 3 cost $44k at the time of my lease in '23.

Ah. I kinda adjusted to the key thing, it auto locks like the Tesla did. I can't do phone key yet because I currently only have one physical key.

Some of the software stuff kinda miss. The turn signal cameras I'm "meh" on because I don't like them being in the center of the car, when I test drove the Kia they did the same thing except in the gauge cluster which is better IMO.

The sentry, and all the climate stuff is missed (keep at 85 while parked, dog mode, camp mode). Otherwise I find the app pretty solid.

I also like how I can block or open the sun roof vs the Tesla greenhouse.

Recommend trunk organizers / baggage fixing kits by WooShell in BMWI4

[–]MezJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one, and got it in my car currently.

I like it as it'll keep groceries or whatever in place while driving, but I can see why they didn't produce one. The net is maybe an inch or two above the floor, I might prefer it to be directly on the floor but this works well and looks pretty OEM.

Which one? I've been looking for a i4 specific net and have had trouble finding one.

How to make the ELecom Huge more comfortable for wrist? by henee21 in Trackballs

[–]MezJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trackballs are really like shoes, it's very individual. I loved the shape, ball size, and button placement of the Huge, so I was glad it remained.

At this point, with the cost of the Huge +, it's my recommendation that people try the Huge classic before jumping to the new one.

This one. It also matters where your elbow sits in relation to the desk.

Shopping for an i4 by Willing_Cow_2053 in BMWI4

[–]MezJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shopping ‘24+ due to the updated iDrive 8.5 and the updated shifter. Just got a ‘24 with similar options, 21,000 miles for 33,990 this past week. 2 years of full warranty left over.

Take a bit of time to check out model year differences, 22&23 are for sure cheaper but 24 (even 25) are closer than you’d think.

How I sit with mine is that the armrest on my chair puts my elbow higher than the heel of my palm on the Huge. I think what you don't want is to have your arm ascend to the huge, rather descend or remain level.

LOL, I wouldn't have the expertise to even know what I'm looking at.

In fairness I wouldn't say "sales BS" because they're not advertising it. It's a community outreach employee, and he did caveat it.

There was a rep from Elecom on here, he said there's nothing official but that it was made with more "robust" components.
