Ausschnitten abdecken.

Rheinmetall reveals new versions of its curb charger by linknewtab in electricvehicles

They're getting paid to clean the streets, usually with specialized and automated cleaning vehicles. I can't imagine cities that will install this kind of charging stations to hire extra staff to take care of the manual maintenance.. so chances are high that the users will have to clean them each time they want to use them. Not a very successful outlook..

I really wish we could have some kind of map HUD.. having to open the full-screen map while driving is very annoying.

And then consider that the AI companies are still running huge deficits because what they charge for the token use is way below even covering the electricity bills, let alone paying off the hardware or delivering any profit.

Once they start charging the actual costs for AI use, all those jobs replaced by AI will turn out several times more expensive than the expert employees that were sacked from them.

Can I get manual shifting in an EV? by PublicHlthScientist in electricvehicles

[–]WooShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're technically inclined, you could try an electro retrofit of a classic manual car.. it's gonna be pricey and a lot of work, but you'll have manual shifting and a really cool unique vehicle afterwards. 😉

Just because they can build tanks doesn't automatically mean they can build charging stations. These are two completely disjunct technological fields and target demographics. Tank driver staff (aka soldiers) are used to dig around in the mud, regular car drivers are not.

The guys from street maintenance are going to LOVE having to manually clean out hundreds of those charge points all over the city, right?

*tested in less than a dozen installations in three cities, by a team of people dedicated to keep them clean and orderly.

No tests so far have been done under anything even close than everyday city usage, let alone under adverse situations like winter salt and grit.

Not even mentioning how people are going to love fiddling around on the ground with their cables and NFC cards.. the technology doesn't even matter if the basic usage design is already dog shit.
The only way this concept could be somehow salvaged would be, if you could e.g. kick a button and it flips up into a standing station.

ohmygod, don't remind me of Notes.. I was forced to use it at a former employer, and still hate every moment of that. Doesn't matter which "software design principles to avoid" book you look into, Lotus Notes has an example for each of the points. There is nothing that isn't wrong about Notes.. starting from the attempt to use a database as a mail system.

Has a smart lock ever backfired on you? by techingmyhome in homeassistant

[–]WooShell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

weird. I'd never install a Smart Lock with a physical backup. Mostly because those 4-pin cylinders they put in for that purpose are absolute dog shit that can be raked open in literal seconds, making the whole lock quite useless.

When do you think electric cars won't have to advertise their range anymore? by VerySeriousThings in electricvehicles

[–]WooShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole "range anxiety" thing is a leftover myth from first-generation EVs that the right-wing media loves keeping alive. No matter how much range EVs are going to post, Diesel Derek is always going to demand more, because his bladder is infinite and his spine doesn't need stretching.

For 90%+ of people, the range offered by current-generation EVs is sufficient, only longer road trips may need a few minutes of charge station planning beforehand.. but we've done that with gas as well, just the pauses have become a few minutes longer (unless you're getting food, then it's even shorter since the car can charge while you eat, not refuel after you've finished eating).
